The second edition of the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) is set to begin on January 17 next year, the Bangladesh Cricket Board has confirmed. The inaugural edition, played from February 10 to February 29, 2012, was won by Dhaka Gladiators.

The franchise auction will be held on November 9 this year, and the players' auction will follow it, on December 7.

Apart from the Shere Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur and the MA Aziz Stadium in Chittagong, the Sheikh Abu Naser Stadium in Khulna will host BPL matches. Two more stadiums - the Sylhet Divisional Stadium and the Shahid Kamaruzzaman Stadium in Rajshahi - will host the warm-up games.

There would be three categories of players to be auctioned. 'Golden' category players would have a base price of US$75,000, the foreign cricketers would have base prices ranging from $50,000 to $15,000, and the local players will have base prices ranging from $30,000 to $10,000.

The second edition of the BPL will be without icon players. Shahriar Nafees, Tamim Iqbal, Mohammad Ashraful, Shakib Al Hasan, Mushfiqur Rahim and Alok Kapali were the icon players in the 2012 BPL.

The most important thing about BPL is that its a big plus for Bangladesh's Cricket.

Uh.. stop that all nonsense leagues' talk! Pak is doing a right thing not to start any such league as players don't get ample time to rest and they tends to focus more on these league matches instead of focusing on international duty.. And my dear friends Pak is showing results: 2007 t20 finalists, 2009 t20 winners, 2010 t20, 2012 t20 and 2011 50-50 semi finalists... I don't see Bangla getting any better through BPL,its all domestic circuit where players are groomed for international arena. a t20 leage can't produce great test players for any team!

Posted by   on (October 13, 2012, 17:07 GMT)

we wont to see next year B.P.L chaimpon and runer up time should bee play champion leg T20.

Posted by justshmad on (October 13, 2012, 12:01 GMT)

I think that there should be just 4 foreign players and more Chances to be given to local talented youngsters. Each team Captain should be a senior Bangla Team player as it will help the grooming of future leaders. And i wish that Pak players (except those on S.A. tour) make full use of this season too for compensating their Zero IPL experience. Gud luck BPL:-)

Legalpeagle: Yeah a country which happens to have the second largest number people on the planet of course Indian Premier League is so successful compared to any other league but the important thing is that its the Cricket that counts not the financial rewards that you're not even earning lool. The important thing is that these T20 leagues in Australia, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, England, South Africa all besides Pakistan help these countries and its boards even though the financial rewards are much smaller compared to India. The important thing is that Cricket is played in these countries full-time unlike some -_- ;)

Posted by EnglishCricket on (October 13, 2012, 11:05 GMT)

Bangladesh has a fantastic future in Cricket lets hope the other teams below them have too.

Posted by ExtremeSpeed on (October 12, 2012, 23:51 GMT)

@legaleagle - yeah dude that's why Pakistan don't start their world t20 league. This page had good comments until your unnecessary stir get use to Bangladeshi Cricket mate. @The_Ashes - you're very funny totally agree cheers! the important thing is that BPL helps Bangladeshi Cricket and long may it continue.

Posted by The_Ashes on (October 12, 2012, 23:04 GMT)

Bad Joke because nobody is even watching champions league. Come up with something better next time mate and funnier.

Posted by   on (October 12, 2012, 22:26 GMT)

@Legaleagle...First of all this is a BPL page not an IPL page and nobody is talking about IPL on here since you brought that up and although BPL, BBL, SLPL etc may not be successful as IPL financially there's good reasons for that I mean do these countries have numerous investors India has and its population? Exactly! so that's why! "CLT20 will seriously compromise the viewership" - haha..is anyone even watching CLT20 right now? I mean the crowd in CLT20 in qualifying so far is proof even without a BPL team also where's Pakistan Franchise League? :) The fact is BPL has benefited Bangladesh Cricket and our Cricket is here to stay forever now after all the next ICC President will be a Bangladeshi keeps getting better for Bangladesh Cricket next T20 World Cup in Bangladesh etc etc all the best and good luck! :P

Why are we waiting until January 2013? The teams arent really scaling the Himalayas right now. Let's have another BPL right away.

Posted by Legaleagle on (October 12, 2012, 18:00 GMT)

BPL is so small compared to IPL or any other tournament that allowing them to participate in CLT20 will seriously compromise the viewership.

Sorry to disagree with Ian but Sunny was well known in bd domestic for years and If i am not wrong he already debu as a Test player and got 5 wicket in 1st innings before he played BPL.

Posted by   on (October 12, 2012, 13:40 GMT)

new stadium sylhet and another one fatulla is ready for hosting any world class match....so why we can`t get this 2 also....but thnks to bcb for choosing the m.a aziz stadium in chittagong...coz the zohur ahmed stadium is so far frm the city...i am sure bpl2 will get huge fans in stadium..

Posted by M_Rakibul_Islam on (October 12, 2012, 10:10 GMT)

It's wise to exclude the clause of ICON cricketers. BD also must allow at best 3/4 foreigners in main XI. In 1st season each franchisee contracted 9 foreigner cricketers which is unnecessary too. 7 players should b enough. @IAN PONT: yeah. Agree with u. Ur team Dhaka was the most successful team not only for team per4mance but also by grooming young talents like Anamul & Sunny. They successfully contracted with Imran, Pollard, Afridi & Ajmal too. They had Mash, Ash, Nazmul. This was a wonderful combination what all the franchisees need to plan for.

Posted by   on (October 12, 2012, 8:11 GMT)

CLT20 will need a Bangladeshi domestic champion..............so we will participate in next CLT20 @ 2013

Posted by   on (October 12, 2012, 6:21 GMT)

we want at least 2 teams of bpl in clt20 2013

Posted by   on (October 12, 2012, 6:01 GMT)

As my view only four foreign players should be allowed to play in a match for each team. This is the tournament hosted by BCB to improve our cricket and cricketers, so local players deserve more opportunity.

Posted by anver777 on (October 12, 2012, 4:54 GMT)

If excessive T20 played allover.... it will kill the interest of fans allover & the format will die very soon..... God please save cricket !!!!

Posted by   on (October 12, 2012, 3:09 GMT)

Thank you coach Pont for your passionate comment. I agree that Sunny and Anamul was the discovery of BPL I. Sunny definitely added a lot of value on recent BD T20 venture and Anamul is a class batsman. I think 5 foreigners make competition and quality of cricket much higher. Thus, local talents have to really compete for their position. IPL definitely led the way and much more eventful, but at core I feel its like watching Indian bowlers being punished all over the place with one or two exception. At BPL, those foreign bowler made competition more competitive. The reward of BPL was 2012 Asia Cup performance. So, BPL should stick to its core and improve upon it, especially, paying players and staffs on time.

The next BPL Winners shud be in the Champions league...

Posted by SylhetiBangladeshiCricketExpert4u on (October 12, 2012, 0:03 GMT)

I Dont Understand What the hell is going on with BCB...Sylhet the Tea and Money City of BD didnt get chance to host even BPL matches ? Itz a Real Shame on BCB....by now Sylhet Should Have Hosted International Match...The Stadium in Sylhet is one of the Best in BD

Posted by mrpfister on (October 11, 2012, 21:55 GMT)

Are they going to pay the players this time?

Posted by Cpt.Meanster on (October 11, 2012, 18:50 GMT)

God bless T20 cricket !!!!

Posted by TheBlackMonk on (October 11, 2012, 17:27 GMT)

@ExtremeSpeed: See, this sort of accusation will keep coming no matter how comfortably you win. We just need to be focused on playing more competitive cricket and ignore those back comments, haters always will hate.

Posted by   on (October 11, 2012, 17:15 GMT)

To wiseshah.. you obviously didn't watch much BPL then. The Dhaka winning side had Anamul, Ashraful and Nazimuddin batting in the top 5 at various times, and the bowling consisted of Elias Sunny, Mashrafe and also Rubel.

Far from all the foreigners bowling all the overs and batting 1-5 the local players played a huge role with both Anamul and Sunny being the 'finds' of the whole tournament

Posted by   on (October 11, 2012, 17:11 GMT)

@wiseshah...The best comment so far on this page. The actual purpose of BPL should be to develop and improve Cricketers which the first edition of course did but restricting the number of foreign players to 4 with one or more mandatory foreign good pace bowler will benefit Bangladesh Cricket tremendously. More Cricket Bangladesh plays whether International or Club level the more they will learn, develop, improve and of course progress.

Posted by Mad_for_Shakib on (October 11, 2012, 16:51 GMT)

wiseshah@Totally agreed wid u, best of luck Bpl 2, hope winner will join CLT20,Best of luck Ctg king.

Posted by   on (October 11, 2012, 16:33 GMT)

Yeah... I am agree with brother who said there should be mandatory one foreign pace bowler to each team in each match. this time BCB should allow 4 foreign players, but i think 3 players will be more better but quality one. even BCB have good move by not allowing any icon player in a team. i appreciate it. all the best BPL 2013.

Posted by British_North_America on (October 11, 2012, 16:15 GMT)

Why there is franchise auction?

Posted by wiseshah on (October 11, 2012, 15:53 GMT)

Only four players should be allowed to play in a match. Its ridicoulus to see 5 foreign player were batting 1-5 position and bowling all the over. Its for development of local cricket. Maximum 4 player should be allowed to play per game. I think one should be mandatory pacer, because bd have pace weakness

Posted by ExtremeSpeed on (October 11, 2012, 15:32 GMT)

Its good to see for once our Bangladeshi players have plenty of Cricket to play in the next 2 years at the top end starting with full series against the Windies next month and meaningful I should say unlike some unfortunately. I would also suggest BCB management to arrange an ODI series against the likes of Ireland, Scotland and Netherlands so we can put to an end that these teams are better than Bangladesh blah blah blah...also important and advisable for some of Bangladesh top players to play in County Cricket next year because some were given an opportunity last year but refused it is simply unacceptable especially from countries like Bangladesh and downwards.

Posted by   on (October 11, 2012, 15:11 GMT)

Why another auction for franchise?Thought the team was awarded to the owner for 7 years.Nevertheless,I hope people of Bangladesh provide good support to BPL.Hope to see a BPL in CLT20 next year.
