Gordon Harris came from a cricket family - his father played for Northumberland - and he was an all-round sportsman who was good enough to play county hockey. A fast-medium bowler, his career was rather odd in that he played three matches with an eight-year gap between the first and second. His debut came in 1986 for Leicestershire and then after spells in Minor County cricket with Bedfordshire and Hertfordshire he turned out twice for Middlesex. He also appeared in three National Club Knockout finals for Teddington, winning in 1989 and 1991.
