Ryan Le Loux became the first legspinner to play for Queensland in 12 years when he was promoted to the Pura Cup side in 2004-05. In a pace-heavy match at the Gabba, he delivered only one over and was last year overtaken by Daniel Doran without adding another appearance. However, he faced West Indies in a first-class tour game and top scored from No. 9 with 63 and also added the wicket of Chris Gayle. The next week he was Australia's acting 12th man for the first Test as reward for his fine fielding. Le Loux, the family name is Dutch, represented Northern Territory at under-17 level but switched to Queensland's side as an under-19 and attended the Academy in 2004.
