Bangladesh's selectors have picked eight players with Test experience in a 28-member A squad that will attend a training camp on June 25 to prepare for the Shafi Dharshah Trophy in India next month.

Shahriar Nafees, Imrul Kayes, Nazimuddin, Naeem Islam, Raqibul Hasan, Enamul Haque jr, Shahadat Hossain and Robiul Islam will join the non-Test players at the camp at the Shere Bangla Stadium in Mirpur.

Bangladesh A and Sri Lanka A are the two foreign sides in the tournament that will be staged in Bangalore and Mysore. They will compete against top teams from India's domestic first-class competition, the Ranji Trophy, including the champions Rajasthan. The final will be held on August 16.

Stuart Barnes, the former Gloucestershire fast bowler, will accompany Bangladesh A as head coach for the tournament. Bangladesh A lost the unofficial Test and one-day series against West Indies A in November last year. However, they beat England Lions 3-2 in a one-day series and drew the Twenty20 series in January.

Preliminary Squad: Shahriar Nafees, Nasiruddin Faruque, Imrul Kayes, Nazimuddin, Mominul Haque, Naeem Islam, Shamsur Rahman, Farhad Hossain, Marshall Ayub, Rokibul Hasan, Mahmudul Hasan, Shuvagata Hom Chowdhury, Mohammad Mithun, Dhiman Ghosh, Saqlain Sajeeb, Arafat Sunny, Enamul Haque, Mosharraf Hossain, Sohag Gazi, Shahadat Hossain, Robiul Islam, Mukhtar Ali, Alauddin Babu, Al Amin, Shabbir Rahman, Dollar Mahmud, Kazi Kamrul Islam, Tasamul Hoque.

Indias Top First Class Teams mean these players play for India A Team

Posted by Third_Gear on (June 23, 2012, 10:53 GMT)

Some people should know that BD 1st class infrastructure, leagues and clubs are mocu and far better and high raked than Srilankans. The players which the writer has mentioned most of them are not regular or did not play many tests THEY WERE just given one or two chances.

That means Bangladesh or Sri Lanka's A team equals the first class teams of India. If it is compared to Bangladesh's A team none will disagree but what about Sri Lanka's first class tournament? It is so weak?

Would be good for Bangladesh but why haven't they included some of their most promising talent. I understand that the u19 world cup is coming up but that should be over before the tournament starts which will be more beneficial for them. Likes of anamul Haque, asif ahmed, abu jayed should be included in the team once their done with the world cup. Good to see one of the promising youngsters in al-amin hossain in the team. Hope to see naeem show his ability as i feel he should be a permanent fixture in the bangladesh test squad as he has shown with his batting that he is better than most of their specialist batsmen and that he has the right temperament to be a test players. Has the ability to play defensive cricket, along with being a handy bowler and a good fielders.

Good practice for all teams but just want to say for Bangladesh's behalf that though Shariah Nafees is not in the main squad of Bangladesh now I will still consider him for ODIs and Tests as he's very suited to these formats and past performances shows how comfortable he is compared to T20s. Imrul Kayes should only be used for ODIs considering his past success in that format but definitely will not select him for Tests or T20s. Nazimuddin definitely only for Tests and remaining players Enamul and Naeem as back-up to our first choices, they're pretty handy in all formats that's why. As for Shahadat Hossain though he's not really talented with the ball, I'll only use him or consider for tests as Bangladesh are limited in the fast bowling department.

It would be better for Bangladesh or Sri Lanka if the winners of their domestic first-class competition would join this tournament instead of their A teams.
