The second edition of the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) is set to begin on January 17 next year, the Bangladesh Cricket Board has confirmed. The inaugural edition, played from February 10 to February 29, 2012, was won by Dhaka Gladiators.

The franchise auction will be held on November 9 this year, and the players' auction will follow it, on December 7.

Apart from the Shere Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur and the MA Aziz Stadium in Chittagong, the Sheikh Abu Naser Stadium in Khulna will host BPL matches. Two more stadiums - the Sylhet Divisional Stadium and the Shahid Kamaruzzaman Stadium in Rajshahi - will host the warm-up games.

There would be three categories of players to be auctioned. 'Golden' category players would have a base price of US$75,000, the foreign cricketers would have base prices ranging from $50,000 to $15,000, and the local players will have base prices ranging from $30,000 to $10,000.

The second edition of the BPL will be without icon players. Shahriar Nafees, Tamim Iqbal, Mohammad Ashraful, Shakib Al Hasan, Mushfiqur Rahim and Alok Kapali were the icon players in the 2012 BPL.

The most important thing about BPL is that its a big plus for Bangladesh's Cricket.

Uh.. stop that all nonsense leagues' talk! Pak is doing a right thing not to start any such league as players don't get ample time to rest and they tends to focus more on these league matches instead of focusing on international duty.. And my dear friends Pak is showing results: 2007 t20 finalists, 2009 t20 winners, 2010 t20, 2012 t20 and 2011 50-50 semi finalists... I don't see Bangla getting any better through BPL,its all domestic circuit where players are groomed for international arena. a t20 leage can't produce great test players for any team!

we wont to see next year B.P.L chaimpon and runer up time should bee play champion leg T20.

I think that there should be just 4 foreign players and more Chances to be given to local talented youngsters. Each team Captain should be a senior Bangla Team player as it will help the grooming of future leaders. And i wish that Pak players (except those on S.A. tour) make full use of this season too for compensating their Zero IPL experience. Gud luck BPL:-)

Legalpeagle: Yeah a country which happens to have the second largest number people on the planet of course Indian Premier League is so successful compared to any other league but the important thing is that its the Cricket that counts not the financial rewards that you're not even earning lool. The important thing is that these T20 leagues in Australia, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, England, South Africa all besides Pakistan help these countries and its boards even though the financial rewards are much smaller compared to India. The important thing is that Cricket is played in these countries full-time unlike some -_- ;)

Bangladesh has a fantastic future in Cricket lets hope the other teams below them have too.

@legaleagle - yeah dude that's why Pakistan don't start their world t20 league. This page had good comments until your unnecessary stir get use to Bangladeshi Cricket mate. @The_Ashes - you're very funny totally agree cheers! the important thing is that BPL helps Bangladeshi Cricket and long may it continue.

Bad Joke because nobody is even watching champions league. Come up with something better next time mate and funnier.

@Legaleagle...First of all this is a BPL page not an IPL page and nobody is talking about IPL on here since you brought that up and although BPL, BBL, SLPL etc may not be successful as IPL financially there's good reasons for that I mean do these countries have numerous investors India has and its population? Exactly! so that's why! "CLT20 will seriously compromise the viewership" - haha..is anyone even watching CLT20 right now? I mean the crowd in CLT20 in qualifying so far is proof even without a BPL team also where's Pakistan Franchise League? :) The fact is BPL has benefited Bangladesh Cricket and our Cricket is here to stay forever now after all the next ICC President will be a Bangladeshi keeps getting better for Bangladesh Cricket next T20 World Cup in Bangladesh etc etc all the best and good luck! :P
