Tamim Iqbal has said that he has not yet been paid by Chittagong Kings for the first season of the Bangladesh Premier League. Tamim also said the franchise's owner and chief executive, Sameer Quader Chowdhury, asked him to tell the BPL governing council that he had been paid, though the franchise denied that claim. The BPL confirmed Tamim was the only unpaid Kings' player after the league's first season.

"I couldn't play many of the BPL matches, so I told him [Chowdhury] let's sit and decide a figure, which came to Taka 1 crore ($123,000), but I still haven't received a single taka," Tamim told the Bengali newspaper Prothom Alo. "Samir Quader Chowdhury gave me a check worth Taka 1 crore six or seven months ago, but it bounced. Since then he has given me dates but has never kept the commitment."

According to the initial BPL ruling, which asked franchises to pay its icon players 10% more than its highest-paid player, Tamim was supposed to receive $210,000 (Tk 1.7 crore approximately) as Chittagong's icon. Chowdhury, however, insisted the BPL governing council had changed the payment structure. The bounced cheque, he said, in fact had been stopped.

"We gave him the cheque a long time ago but we had stopped it because we found out that the payment for the icon players had been reduced to $100,000, which amounts to approximately Tk 80 lakh, and after 10% tax deduction it ends up as Tk 72 lakh," Chowdhury said. "We asked the board how much we should pay Tamim, but we haven't heard back from them. We asked them to take the fact that he played only two matches into consideration too. Unless they tell us, we can't pay him."

BCB director Sirajuddin Mohammad Alamgir, the secretary of the BPL governing council, said the league had asked the franchises to decide after discussion with individual players, on a case-by-case basis, as to what the icon salary should be pegged at.

"All the other franchises have spoken to their icon players and I expect it to end amicably with Tamim and Chittagong as well," Alamgir said. "He is the only unpaid player in their franchise and I expect it to be completed before the October 20 deadline, when the teams have to complete all payments."

Tamim also said he was asked to misinform the BPL about his payments. "Sameer [Quader Chowdhury] asked me to tell the board that I got my full payment, but I didn't. I informed the BPL governing council of what he asked me to do, though I didn't lodge a complaint. I didn't want to ruin my relationship with Sameer but now, after so long, I have no other options [but to tell the media]."

Chowdhury denied the claim, saying, "If that was true, why would I ask the board how much we should pay him?"

This is the latest episode in the fractious relationship between Tamim and the Chittagong franchise. After missing four BPL games due to a groin injury, Tamim was reportedly kept sidelined after a bust-up with Dean Jones, the team's technical director at the time. It escalated when he was left out of the team's first home game, though his name was initially in the playing eleven and later cut out. Jones soon left for India and Tamim played the following match. Both parties denied any problems at the time.

@Pappu_bhai - Tamim is inconsistent of course he's nowhere near to these players.

Tamim The best cricketer according to Bangladesh? Are You trying to say he is as good as Deviliers?

Posted by The_Ashes on (October 18, 2012, 18:09 GMT)

I'm an England fan and whoever is saying Tamim is nothing needs to take a look at themselves in the mirror because this guy has scored 3 glorious centuries against a phenomenal team like England averaging over 60 with the bat against us and believe me he was a joy to watch. For those that cannot remember, it was Tamim Iqbal that won Wisden Cricketer of the Year award which is mainly won by English players. I think it bothers some people that players of not so strong teams are succeeding and making a good living out of Cricket. Its good to see teams like Bangladesh, Ireland, Kenya playing and enjoying Cricket and certainly have a right to do so and who are we to question? thanks guys.

The joke continues ... !!! :))

Posted by   on (October 18, 2012, 14:29 GMT)

@legaleagle...You mean Afridi is the most overrated untalented Cricketer in the Cricket circuit these days. Tamim is only 23 a long career awaits for him unlike some. Oh yeah congratulations on Pakistan hosting matches for once against a World XI well retired XI hehe...hope it goes well. Bangladesh doesn't do these kind of meaningless matches because they're already hold International matches full time. Bangladesh may not be a strong Cricket team but no doubt and improving team....@AzAb12751 lol totally agree too late for a team like Bangladesh ;)

Posted by AzAb12754 on (October 18, 2012, 13:30 GMT)

@Legaleagle: 02:47 am? - Lol Yeah Tamim according to you is untalented but like someone already said, its people like Mike Atherton and Geoffrey Boycott views on Tamim that really counts cheers mate :P

Posted by Summer_Sport on (October 18, 2012, 9:44 GMT)

@Legaleagle - Actually he's underated because he plays for minnows Bangladesh but sorry did you just say he's 'untalented'? that's so hilarious because Cricketing experts like Mike Atherton, Nasser Hussain, Bob Willis and of course you know Geoffrey Boycott not only rate him highly but also say he's talented and that's what matters mate :)

@ cricinformer. What is Haffez's strike rate in ODI and T20Is?

Posted by cricinformer on (October 18, 2012, 0:25 GMT)

Hafeez is 2nd on T20 and One-Day Bowler rankings and 8th and 2nd on One-Day and T20 All rounder rankings respectively. Tamim is not in any of the rankings list in any of the three formats of the game. Please do not compare him with Hafeez. Makes no sense.

Where's the story of Tamim-Jones saga? It's out now in every Bangla newspaper, and the rest of the world deserves to know how Mr Dean Jones mistreated the players.

Posted by   on (October 16, 2012, 23:39 GMT)

did someone just say hafeez is the best opener in the world. dont make me laugh :/

Posted by EnglishCricket on (October 16, 2012, 20:58 GMT)

Mohammad Hafeez has improved a lot now compared to his early years and is the best opening batsman in the World. Tamim should learn from him if he wants to become one as well.

Tamim is surely a Quality player but he hasn't got any success in t-20s.

Posted by   on (October 16, 2012, 16:03 GMT)

@asiacricket1234...Yeah I know that comment of yours made me laugh but did you know Dean Jones was interviewing Tamim when he won the man of the match award at the SLPL? no lost relationship :D

Posted by   on (October 16, 2012, 14:33 GMT)

shame! but for one person i wont say BPL bad!

Posted by InsideHedge on (October 16, 2012, 13:57 GMT)

The point here is that a contract was signed. The contract stated that he should be paid around $200K. However, Tamim was willing to cut that by almost 50%, and he's still not paid. No franchise will have every player FIT and AVAILABLE, they are to take these factors into account. Last year, Mumbai Indians signed Mitchell Johnson and he didn't play a single game thru injury. The player still needs to be paid.

Posted by Proud_GhorJamai on (October 16, 2012, 13:33 GMT)

@pappu_bhai oh really....I would love to see you score some centuries against england or score a 150 against india

Posted by OttawaRocks on (October 16, 2012, 13:31 GMT)

The BPL looks like a joke when they don't play the players that served them.

Posted by asiacricket1234 on (October 16, 2012, 13:07 GMT)

Did anyone read what he said about Dean Jones. Poor Tamim really had a bad time :/. I hope he'll do some good in next WI series :D

Posted by Noball_Specialist on (October 16, 2012, 12:54 GMT)

Tamim Iqbal made 4 runs in the two matches he played and he wants $123,000?

Nonsense demand from a overrated player.

Posted by   on (October 16, 2012, 12:08 GMT)

Lets see if 'some' Indian fans say Tamim is another one of these useless players like they have done to Shakib because his record against India is one of the best bring it on I have the stats :)

Posted by AzAb12754 on (October 16, 2012, 11:31 GMT)

If Tamim Iqbal can get his act together and play consistently than he will easily become the best opening batsman in World Cricket. He should know of all people that Bangladesh is not like England, India or Pakistan and Bangladesh need as much contribution from as possible instead going for rash shots and out carelessly. Some fans will just say Tamim is nothing blah blah haters will be hate just shows their jealousy but the important thing is people like Geoffrey Boycott though he may have a problem with Bangladesh playing Test Cricket rate players like Tamim very highly and enjoys watching him bat.

Posted by ExtremeSpeed on (October 16, 2012, 10:55 GMT)

@Pappu_bhai - When it some to his inconsistency I totally agree he can be a waste but I wouldn't be that harsh on him because he has done tremendous things and he's only 23 a very young man.

Posted by   on (October 16, 2012, 10:25 GMT)

its shame that Icon player dint pay yet .

Posted by   on (October 16, 2012, 10:21 GMT)

Looks like if you can play some decent street cricket, it might be worthwhile taking Bangla citizenship and becoming a Bangla cricketer. USD 100K for 2 matches? Even Gayle would not get paid so much.

Posted by   on (October 16, 2012, 10:09 GMT)

Ctg kings should pay the amount as soon as possible and convince Tamim for next season Cpt for chittagongion support.... we will be happy to see Mr Tamim CTG Cpt for BPL 2nd luck tamim

Posted by   on (October 16, 2012, 10:02 GMT)

Well he didn't really play at the BPL and there was a big bust up like the article mentions so who would want to pay that kind of sum when there was no services from him? The key thing in this report that every player at Chittagong was paid besides him so obvious there is a reason why Tamim didn't get paid by Chittagong but I still think its unprofessional by the franchise of dealing and discussing with this important matter.

Posted by Pappu_bhai on (October 16, 2012, 9:23 GMT)

If Chittagong hasnt paid you play for other team and beat the chittagong like anything.Score high runs against them.I know you cant because u dont have the skill.Ur a waste.

Total waste cricketer Just Verbal guy.
