Nazmul Hasan was named the new Bangladesh Cricket Board president, Dhaka, October 17, 2012
Nazmul Hassan, the new BCB president, revealed a letter had been sent to the PCB © Bangladesh Cricket Board

The Bangladesh Cricket Board recently made a written commitment to its Pakistan counterpart to touring that country at the end of the year, its new president Nazmul Hassan revealed today. Hassan didn't say who sent the letter on behalf of the BCB, but said since it had been sent, the necessary steps would have to be taken.

It was later revealed that it had been sent before he took over on October 18.

"Jalal [Yunus, the BCB's media committee chairman] said in the last press conference that we haven't contacted the PCB regarding a tour [but] we have found out that a letter was sent from the BCB about playing there," Hassan said at the end of a five-hour meeting in Mirpur on Thursday. "The Pakistan media started saying that Bangladesh would tour because such a correspondence had indeed taken place."

The letter, Hassan said, was brief and made no mention of security or any logistical factors. "Since we have found out about the letter, we are considering whether it is mandatory to tour Pakistan or if there are any other options. If we go to Pakistan, we need to be assured of adequate security for our team.

"Actually there are a lot of gaps in that letter, so we have to take all this into account and decide if we want to go or not and if we do [decide positively], then we will go. I would call it a commitment, although it is just a one-line letter, but it is clear the BCB has decided."

Asked if it was mentioned to him at his first meeting, Hassan said, "This wasn't on the agenda at the meeting. I wasn't told about it. I know for a fact that Jalal bhai didn't know too; maybe the others [directors] did."

Yunus said that despite the letter being sent earlier this month, the PCB's stand was that it was still Bangladesh who would decide when to tour. "The letter was sent just before the new president was appointed. He [Hassan] wasn't informed during the transition period. [PCB general manager of media] Nadeem Sarwar has denied that PCB president Zaka Ashraf said Bangladesh will tour Pakistan in December. They have left it to Bangladesh to decide."

@WickyRoy.paklover - I laughed when you said Tamim was an average player that was pretty funny I mean how can you call someone average when he's so good to watch bat? how can an average player score 4 50s in a row? and 2 back to back 100s against England in England? and so on...please! :)

YES AS a BD cricket fan, i would say , BD team should go to pak. Bangladesh shouldn't involve any politics

@WickyRoy.paklover on (November 03 2012, 11:04 AM GMT) - I think most Ozzy cricketers would say they WANT to tour Pakistan as it is a challenge. It would require positive signs of stability, which depending on your POV either IS or IS NOT happening! (If that makes sense). I would dearly love Pakistan to be a safe place for International cricketers to tour again. I think will tour in the future - after all, in the mid 90s we didn't tour SL as it was unsafe. We have toured numerous times since. As a stepping stone, I think Pakistan should concentrate on getting Bangladesh & Afghanistan over for tours.

If bd visit pak, they should be made to play tests against departmental teams like i mentiond in previous post,it might raise the standard of bangla cricket aftr a tuff test against these sides. BUILDING NEW STADIUMS n attracting new Sponers n endorsments r not going to help Bangla on the playing field as long as they dn't get 11 players(atleast) to play internationaly.THEY HAVE NOT BEEN ABLE TO FIND BOWLERs even OF Calibre of Rana naved,Rao iftikhar@Smith robertson,I GUES INABILITY OF UR AUSIES TO NEGOTIATE AJMAL STIL hurts?lolz

@ExtremeSpeed,SHAKIB Z ABOVE AVERAGE,TAMIM Z AVERAGE,othrs R below Averge,U HAVE Evry right to dream bt the fact iz ur team iz not gd enuf to compete against one of our departmental teamp like PIA,PORT QASIM,HABIB BANK.we have almost about 4 to 5 times bigr pool of youngstrs than bd can nevr compete against pak

Pakistan are an exciting Cricket team no doubt about that wonderful talent but Bangladesh has the better future in Cricket of the two clearly I mean co-hosted successfully last years World Cup, will hold the World T20 Championship, next ICC Vice and President will be a Bangladesh, good players are coming through now, the youngest of all the teams, building and improving stadiums/academies/facilities i.e Syhlet and Cox Bazar, have the second best overall Under-19 record the future of Cricket which already produced the likes of Tamim (23 years old), Shakib (25 years), Rahim (23 years), Nasir (20 years) and now Anamul Haque (19 years) who was the top scorer at recently concluded Under-19 World Cup and many more. The future is clear for Bangladesh's Cricket love it or hate it guys it doesn't matter all the best! -_-

hmm...Really I don't think any team will ever tour Pakistan. I just simply don't understand why there wasn't security given to the Sri Lankan team in 2009 otherwise Cricket would've continued in Pakistan till today.

Dear Team Bangladesh, Plz Plz we don't want ur tour in Pakistan. Boring matches, empty stadiums ... better for PCB to utilize this time for PPL ...

Posted by Ahsan-cric-freak on (November 2, 2012, 18:34 GMT)

its good for Bangla itself as it will do lots of good to them while playing agaist high profile country i.e Pak. i think still it won't be any bigger step for bringing back cricket. it's better to decide quickly about PPL.. Pak Bangla matches will do nothing better than MA.Shah trophy ..These criticizing Bangladeshi people lyk 'extreme speed' and 'BD pola' are forgetting that they were once struggling to earn test status and PCB was the one board that stood up with them and won them test status (for which i personally feel that they don't deserve it any more now Ireland should be awarded with test status instead...!) plz u guys don't tour Pak as it will give no benefit other than waste of time and one sided cricket matches as Ban lie way behind the standards of good cricketing teams like SA,Aus,Pak,Sri,Ind,NZ,WIN!!! Pak cricketers need rest b4 a hectic season coming up from late dec.

As a Bangladeshi Cricket fan, I would say that BD cricket team should go to Pakistan. Bangladesh shouldn't involve any "Dirty" politics that isolated Pakistan from the World Cricket. As a Bangladeshi, we should stand behind PCB, then PCB could bring the cricket in Pakistan soil. Pakistani deserve the cricket matches on their own soil. We all have to fight against "terrorism" and we have to show the "Sprit" that Cricket can beat "Terrorism". Bangladesh Cricket needs help from Pakistan, India and others cricket no "Politics" here please.

Posted by ftitumir on (November 2, 2012, 15:16 GMT)

Bangladesh will tour to Pakistan in near future and Pakistan should greatful about that.

Posted by   on (November 2, 2012, 15:15 GMT)

Pakistan should be grateful that a team would be willing to tour Pakistan even though its teams like Ban, Zim etc because for sure top teams like Aus, Eng and Sa will never tour Pakistan infact guess when Australia last toured Pakistan before the unfortunate incident in 2009? 1998 :D

Indians dont worry, soon u would b in the same sort of situation when foreign teams wount be coming to u as well ... remember after a blast in 2002 in delhi, english team ran away from india :D

It would be good and wise decision to tour Pakistan. Pakistan should not be isolated if adequate security measure is taken

Posted by   on (November 2, 2012, 13:02 GMT)

Dear Bangladesh, please don't come to tour Pakistan. Sincerely, Pakistanis.

Posted by ExtremeSpeed on (November 2, 2012, 12:24 GMT)

Mustafa Kamal is a very smart guy as its not his problem anymore regarding this unnecessary tour. We don't want Bangladesh to go on this tour anyway and don't understand why we have to and other teams don't. Besides, there's no time slot available as Bangladesh have a very busy period from now to the next 2-3 years or so. Good Luck on bringing Cricket back in Pakistan Pakistan, I doubt the bigger teams will ever go :D :P

Posted by Sonium on (November 2, 2012, 12:01 GMT)

Firstly,This seems to be a one man decision. Anyway, BCB should think twice before taking the final decision. Bangladesh is not a weak team anymore, they are asia cup runner up which proves their ability. Moreover, BCB has enough money to arrange tour in any other country. Although, Pakistan is a good team but they are suffering with their internal problems like spot fixing, crime etc. Thus, as a well wisher of pakistan, BD may visit pakistan but of course ensuring the security.

Posted by   on (November 2, 2012, 9:17 GMT)

@raq we dont want to go to country , pcb is beggin us to go do u understand that , so as a muslim bro we are considering and thinking what should we do . team lyk england australia will never visit pakistan atleast a decade , but if bangladesh do visit pakistan ina recent time that time could get shorten , we try to help u but u guys never appreciate and never take blame thats where is pak problem

Posted by Sharjeel77 on (November 2, 2012, 9:13 GMT)

Funny, how BD decided to tour Pak after BCCI confirmed the Indo-Pak ODI and T20 series??!! Anyway to revive international cricket in Pak we need a proper test playing nation.

Posted by WickyRoy.paklover on (November 2, 2012, 9:04 GMT)

I don't think india or bd would be having any security issues when evr they r going to visit pak.SO THEIR STUBORNESS HAVE POLITICAL REASONING ATACHED TO IT.

Posted by getsetgopk on (November 2, 2012, 9:01 GMT)

If the Bangladeshi brothers want to come, then by all means but no pleading or bargaining over this issue anymore, we should sort out our country first till then we should continue playing at neutral venues.

Posted by Meximillion on (November 2, 2012, 8:37 GMT)

Well, but Pakistani only wants Srilanka

Posted by AHZ-Dubai on (November 2, 2012, 8:05 GMT)

If we have to play Bangladesh to revive international cricket in Pkaistan then its better not to play. Almost all first class teams in Pakistan play better quality cricket than Bangladesh. The question to be debated is whether Bangladesh should beplaying Test cricket or not. If we cannot get a quality team then we shouldnt play against a very weak side. I am sure a Bangladesh series will play to empty stadiums and low TV ratings and that would hardly be the path to reviving international cricket.

Posted by   on (November 2, 2012, 6:22 GMT)

@Qazi Hassan..... sp0t 0n br0!!!!! Pakistan first should invest money in their domestic tournaments and then look for Intenational revival......Plz improve the pitches for first class cricket!!!

Posted by RAQ on (November 2, 2012, 4:33 GMT)

Sri Lanka will revive international cricket in Pakistan, I really don't want Bangla to visit Pakistan because I want to see some interesting matches. Not one sided matches

Posted by   on (November 2, 2012, 3:25 GMT)

In bad time Pakistan stood tall for Srilanka and Bangladesh, Srilanka have done their best to bring cricket to Pakistan but sorry to say BCB isnt willing to do the same, may it be political pressure or pressure from BCCI, it isnt doing any good to BCB's relation with PCB, think if it goes like this Pakistan gets teams to play in Pakistan and then Bangladesh want to visit us, and PCB denies to invite them or cancel their tour. We all know Bangladesh dont get much of cricket to play so they should grasp any chance that goes their way.

Posted by Legaleagle on (November 2, 2012, 2:51 GMT)

We don't need Bangladesh to come to Pakistan. There is no viewership and no excitement to play against Bangladesh. Its tiring to see Bangladesh lose so predictably against our unpredictable side.

Pakistan surely doesn't need Bangladesh to revive international cricket in Pakistan. Thanks but no thanks!

Posted by   on (November 1, 2012, 23:32 GMT)

Basically what Mustafa Kamal did was to write this letter to get himself elected at ICC and then left for his successors to deal with the problems.

Posted by sam_m on (November 1, 2012, 21:08 GMT)

Is this supposed to be cricket gossip? Must be a slow news day in the world of cricket.

Posted by   on (November 1, 2012, 18:18 GMT)

As a Bangladeshi cricket fan, I would say that BD team should go to Pakistan. We, BD ppl, shouldn't involve any politics. Its our duty to stand behind PCB and I m sure that PCB will do the same thing if BCB needs them in near feature. So this tour should be go on......

Posted by   on (November 1, 2012, 18:15 GMT)

That will be great to revive international cricket in pakistan
