Isam: BCB will need to get security guarantee from political parties

The Asian Cricket Council has decided that Bangladesh will remain the host of the Asia Cup 2013-14. The other big news to emerge from the ACC's meeting in Colombo is that Afghanistan will be the fifth team in the competition. A total of 11 matches will be played in the tournament with the opening game expected to be on February 25 and the final on March 8, 2014.

"As of now, the decision has been made that Bangladesh will retain hosting rights of the Asia Cup," BCB's acting CEO Nizamuddin Chowdhury said. "We had a good meeting with ACC board members, and they have been convinced that we can host the tournament. Afghanistan has also been added to the tournament, making it a five-team event and the number of matches has gone up to eleven."

Bangladesh's status as a host nation was in doubt following recent political turmoil. In December, the West Indies Under-19s team had pulled out of their tour after an explosion near the team hotel. Apart from the Asia Cup, Bangladesh are scheduled to host Sri Lanka for a bilateral series and will also stage the World Twenty20 from March 16.

Syed Ashraful Huq, the chief executive of the ACC, said the members did not have any specific questions or reservations about the security arrangements around the tournament being held in the country: "Bangladesh submitted a detailed security plan to the ACC. If any member has any other concerns, they should address it with Bangladesh."

ESPNcricinfo understands that concerns were unofficially raised by the PCB about the security situation, with regards to the Pakistan team being in Bangladesh in the current political climate. Regardless of the announcements from the meeting, it is expected that further discussions on the matter will take place in Dubai on January 9 during an ICC executive board meeting, and a question mark remains over Pakistan's participation in the Asia Cup. "They feel it is still a delicate situation," an ACC member said. It is understood that the PCB will seek advice from its government before making its mind up.

The PCB's concerns have arisen in light of the diplomatic row between the governments of Pakistan and Bangladesh. The issue concerns the trial of 1971 war criminals in Bangladesh, which is taking place more than four decades after Bangladesh's independence from Pakistan.

The ACC's decision will give the BCB enough impetus to convince Sri Lanka Cricket of going through with the bilateral series, which is scheduled to begin on January 27. Jayantha Dharmadasa, the SLC chairman, said a decision on the tour would be made soon.

"Sri Lanka are also due to tour Bangladesh from January 24, and SLC is presently conducting its own security appraisal. A final decision on whether that tour will go ahead as scheduled will be made on January 9," Dharmadasa said.

The ICC, too, will hold security inspections in Bangladesh, before deciding whether to retain Bangladesh as the host for the World Twenty20.

The political situation in Bangladesh - general elections are to be held this week - and the resulting violence across the country had raised concerns over whether the tournaments could be held in the country. Although the issue was not discussed formally, it is understood that with the Asia Cup going ahead without any hiccups, the World Twenty20, scheduled to start after the Asia Cup, will be held in Bangladesh across the three venues finalised by the ICC.

Huq said the schedule would be finalised soon, considering Afghanistan would need to be slotted in. According to Huq, Afghanistan were included to provide them with more exposure: "They are playing very well and have got ODI status from the ICC, and the Asia Cup will help them prepare for both the World Twenty20s and the 2015 World Cup."

Apart from finalising Bangladesh as a host, the ACC also awarded broadcast rights for this edition of the tournament to Star India. It has cut ties with Nimbus, the previous broadcast partners.

The meeting in Colombo was chaired by BCCI president N Srinivasan, who is also chairman of the ACC. PCB CEO Subhan Ahmed, Dharmadasa and SLC secretary Nishantha Ranatunga, BCB president Nazmul Hassan and acting CEO Nizamuddin Chowdhury along with presidents of the Singapore, Thailand and Bhutan cricket associations attended the meeting.

Cricket is not cricket without Pakistan and what is Asia cup every time I love you pak and afg I am afghan but I love Pakistan team too

Posted by   on (January 7, 2014, 9:57 GMT)

To those of you who are trying to politicize cricket, show hastens between BD And PAK, more importantly undermine BD fans' love of cricket in their own soil, learn that you are a bunch of individuals who put politics before sports. No matter where it is played, sports is very very different from politics. It is driven by heart whereas, politics has other ill interests. So, let's not mix them, instead, let's support sports no matter where it is being played. Amen.

bundle of thanks from ACC to add the afghanistan

Many Pakistani fan saying that without them Asia Cup will be flop however I dont understand why? I want Pakistan to play Asia Cup but if they refuse to come Asia Cup will be still be as successful as it used be because now we have Afghan so Afghan cricket fans will be watching so the number of viewer will be nearly same. As for quality of cricket: Pakistan recently won a 3 match ODI series in SA & since than their fan acting like they become 1 of the finest team in the world but the fact is in ODI all other 3 asian team have done better than Pak in recent time so not having them is not going to be a trouble. They dont win against India in any major series and SL is a good odi team too so they are gonna lose 2 matches anyway so we already know the result. Yes BD vs Pak and Afghan vs Pak would have been nice to watch but if they dont join than we are only missing 2 matches tbh. Anyway I hope they join and if they dont they are the one losing not someone else

Posted by asporag on (January 6, 2014, 14:36 GMT)

If pakistan doesn't want to come Bangladesh...Then don't come. Asia Cup will be held here safely and nicely as usual. Bangladesh didn't need pakistan not now & not in future at all.

Posted by   on (January 6, 2014, 9:21 GMT)

Given the current form looks like pak n ind will played da Asia cup final 2014. Exclusion of pakistan means no pakistan india contest. So Asia cup will be a flop show.

Posted by go_pk_go on (January 6, 2014, 9:14 GMT)

Poor decision by the ACC. My sincere advise for my BD brothers ... please improve you cricketing caliber first and then compete with the giants like Pakistan. I'm sure, Afg will kick you out from the tournament.

Posted by SHK1 on (January 6, 2014, 7:45 GMT)

Pakistan should bouycott both these tournaments unless the venues are swithched.

Posted by akshay_heble on (January 6, 2014, 7:36 GMT)

Great decision taken by ACC...A very good step to globalize the game across the continent. I hope in the future we get to see countries from east asia, west asia and even asean counries taking part and making it a pan Asian tournament like the one we get to see in football. Just 4 countries taking part doesn't truly make it continental tournament. Maybe through the T20 format we can have a tournament like this as it even gives the minnow a slight chance to compete with the BIG 4...and moreover this format generates a lot of crowd which will be great in spreading the game...

Posted by ZeeshanAdeel on (January 6, 2014, 5:54 GMT)

Looking forward to see Afghanistan vs Bangladesh match.... It will be fun...

Posted by Anil_Koshy on (January 6, 2014, 4:16 GMT)

Great to give Afghanistan a chance to play in the tournament, I believe Nepal should also have been in the tournament, Asia Cup has no meaning without Nepal and Afghanistan.

Posted by kc69 on (January 5, 2014, 20:30 GMT)

As far as I know PCB chances of withdrawal are very less due to financial reasons. Moreover Asia cup with its new addition might be very interesting tournament. Those asking for teams like Nepal, UAE, HongKong etc I guess there is still time. What I see is Bangladesh hosting Asia cup and ICC T20 both successfully.

Posted by Lion83 on (January 5, 2014, 14:57 GMT)

If Pakistan withdaw the tournament should be shifted to Sri Lanka. Otherwise the competitiveness will be loss.

Posted by   on (January 5, 2014, 12:29 GMT)

Good news to Afganistan fans. We bangladeshis know how much potential your team has as a result we take some of your players in our DPL,BPL. I think they have a bright future and can have some real impact on this Asia Cup. I feel the Pakistan team should withdraw from this tournament as they are scared of bangladesh politics. However i dont think India/Srilanka has any problems with it.

Posted by   on (January 5, 2014, 11:58 GMT)

I don't know why countries like Nepal, uae, hongkong were not given chance.....there was a rule that the finalist of Acc trophy will get chance to participate in asia cup and both Nepal and uae were joint winner and Afganistan was third...so I have disagreement as Nepal and uae are not selected in asia cup

Posted by   on (January 5, 2014, 10:38 GMT)

Thanks ACC and ICC for adding Afghanistan into the upcoming Asia Cup. Afghanistan are the raising stars and have consecutively shown that they have the talent in all formats of the game. they have won the t20 qualifier championship or have been the runner up in three consecutive times, they have won the Intercontinental cup once and been the runner up in 2013. they have twice got the ODI status and this time have directly qualified for the 2015 World Cup.

Cricket is loved more than any other games in the country. Our u19 team in the Asia Cup showed that Afghanistan is having a very bright future and can upset the full member nations, they reached to the Semi Finals of the u19 Asia Cup which is as well a very big achievement.

Afghanistan is all through getting maturity and improvements. Domestic matches are being conducted in all three formats of the game, 3 international level grounds are constructed.

Afghans have the thirst of cricket which can be quenched through more exposure

Good Decision taken by ACC and also good news for Afghan Cricket team

what a great news for Afghan nation, thanks to ACB and ACC for their support for Afghan national cricket team.

Good decision taken by ACC.The situation in Bangladesh not that bad to postpone Asia Cup........although Bangladesh isn't politically stable.....but I think this will not be a great issue,as Bangladeshi people are very sporty, moderate(specially about sports).......they will not hurt any player or official. :)

Posted by   on (January 5, 2014, 5:50 GMT)

Due to Comments of some friends about Afghanistan. i would say, Thank to ACC for including Afghanistan, and wish Afghanistan will be the permanent Team in Asia Cup up coming years, Experiences are always learn from the past goodness and badness, This platform will provide a positive effect on Afghanistan Cricket Team. Now World know who is How? Teams are playing many years have not got such victories, but Afghanistan hard working in 10 years show to the world their talent. Game is loss and win, struggle is important we will try our best for beating such those Teams and to be the thoroughest side for (INDIA,PAKISTAN,SIRI LANKA AND BANGLADESH)

Posted by NYRKR on (January 5, 2014, 5:44 GMT)

Very disappointing news! I thought Sri Lanka was a better option to host both tournaments. My prayers goes to the teams and players and hope everything goes well! Good decision to include Afghanistan in because Pakistan is likely going to withdraw from the tournament!

Posted by Azooz-Afgfan on (January 5, 2014, 5:43 GMT)

Something burning over here i can feel the smell.

Posted by   on (January 5, 2014, 4:57 GMT)

A really sensible decision in a long time to include Afghanistan. Afghans get to play 4 test playing nations. If they start doing well, then cricket could get the variety it needs. One more idea would be to include a 6th team by hosting a qualifying tournament between the other Asian teams such as UAE, Nepal, Hongkong, etc. The top team should qualify. Most of the test nations might send their A teams. This will give these non-test nations a chance to upset one of them.

Posted by Edrees.Nawabi on (January 5, 2014, 4:50 GMT)

Afghanistan inclusion in Asia cup is a way forward to expand cricket, and it will be tough for Afg to win any of the matches however its not impossible, and this is a great opportunity for the Afg team to show their talent and prove everyone wrong who are against their inclusion in Asia cup.

Posted by sami333 on (January 5, 2014, 3:39 GMT)

Justice prevailed, both for Afghanistan & Bangladesh

Posted by ssnepal on (January 5, 2014, 3:12 GMT)

It is very bad decision of ACC to exclude Nepal and UAE and include Afghanistan who is not winner from ACC tournament.

Posted by   on (January 5, 2014, 1:00 GMT)

Thanks to the Asian cricket board for adding afghans cricket team in Asia cup , it will improve our cricket talent plus it's good entertainment for all Asian nations to share their sport with each other

Posted by   on (January 4, 2014, 22:44 GMT)

The situation in Bangladesh is so bad to organize any events there..India is behind this situation and therefore nothing will move away of Bangladesh. We are at least in safe side. Inclusion of Afghanistan is a better decision.

Posted by asporag on (January 4, 2014, 22:29 GMT)

Why Afganistan? They are not ready yet. Very disappointing news. 4 uncompetitive matches to watch!!!!! Ok...ACC next time include Bhutan as well.... funny decision!

Posted by ICKY on (January 4, 2014, 22:25 GMT)

I had posted a comment opposing the decision to hold Asia cup in BD, siting the risk to the lives of the international players and officials. I fail to understand why can't a comment your panel doesn't like, can't be published. Are you guys in the panel a party to any issue or your job is to publish comments on both sides of th asile. Waiting to see the response of the panel.

Posted by   on (January 4, 2014, 21:19 GMT)

PAK is already cornered in the cricket world and if they do not come then they cannot expect BD to go to their country. They can request for more security through their Foreign policy department or through PCB

Posted by   on (January 4, 2014, 21:13 GMT)

AFG gets to play 4 matches plus 1 if they can play the final. Hope to see afgan and BD playing in the final

Posted by viqas on (January 4, 2014, 20:56 GMT)

BCB decided not to visit Pak after committing. IMO, irrespective of the outcome, Pak should decide against going to BD for Asia cup. They have to participate in T20 as its an ICC event. Hope its transferred to SL though

Show them what you are made of. Afghanistan is called the "the unconquerable land"; I hope Afghan cricket warriors will defend her honour in this tournament. Best wishes.

Great news for Afghanistan and fans of associate cricket. ICC should look to provide more matches with full members to Ireland and Afghanistan, as they have shown that they are not just fillers.

Thank you so much ICC for including Afghanistan in the Asia Cup.on behalf of millions of Afghans ,I would like to thank heartedly from all those who made it possible for Afghanistan to play in Asian cup. Thank you sooooooooooooooo much!!!!!!!!

Situation is bad in BD with pre-poll violence taking is toll; almost 50 polling stations were torched and God knows what will happen on Election Day. The decision to retain BD as the hosts is bound to put immense pressure on all teams participating in Asia Cup who will be at great risk. But this is good news for BD and one hopes all goes well and the situation eases up but on the face of it, this appears quite improbable at this time because the situation is quite explosive there.

Posted by   on (January 4, 2014, 17:54 GMT)

GREAT NEWS and thanks you ACC and the fans who voted for Afghanistan to be added in the ASIAN CUP. We look forward to see Afghanistan performance soon.

Posted by Assertive-Indian on (January 4, 2014, 17:11 GMT)

It is very sad of ACC to organize this tournament in BD which is very unstable right now. I think it is very dangerous for Indians and Pakistani players to play in BD, given the situation there. Really a very sad decision by ACC.

Posted by   on (January 4, 2014, 16:58 GMT)

Wonderful news to hear that the Asia Cup will go ahead in Bangladesh as planned.

And bravo to the ACC for including Afghanistan! The Afghans are a talented bunch and they deserve this opportunity to compete with the big boys.

Posted by Fogu on (January 4, 2014, 16:52 GMT)

Thank you adis for your positive comments. I agree that IRE and AFG are ready to take the next steps and I hope they are elevated to test status soon. It will be good for cricket to have more countries playing tests. Often times we find negative comments from fans of nations playing cricket for over 70 years towards newer entrants with not as developed cricketing infra structure. It takes time for newer cricket nations to turn over talents. It starts with one or two good players and hopefully it grows into 10-15 good players over time to be even competitive let alone moving up the ranking. IRE has the advantage of county cricket so it will take less time for them to move up. good luck to all Asia cup participants

Posted by   on (January 4, 2014, 16:01 GMT)

i think a qualifying tournament with associate members with Hong kong, UAE, Afg, Nepal, Malaysia, would have been better and two finalist could play in the final Asia cup along with 4 elite teams with 6 teams facing each other. Good decision by the ACC to expand the cricket. afgan is doing well and they deserved it.

Posted by   on (January 4, 2014, 15:36 GMT)

Well it is a Great news for Afghanistan Team and what I think We are seeing all promotion in a period no more than a decade, just one generation of our team can be witness of all these huge promotions.. Wish members of this tournament help us to booster our cricket ,even though we have the potential of promotion as we have already proof it for world and cricket funs

And for Afghanistan, this is really huge opportunity. They have the talents to compete at the top level and this kind of exposure will motivate them to improve their game.

it is very good news for Afghanistan cricket lovers and also our Afghanistan cricket team should try hard in the Batting Fielding Bowling and should try hard to beat anyone of them in this tournament IN SHA ALLAH if Afghanistan try hard and win some matches they can take more helps from ICC and ACC !!!

Great to see international cricket will continue in BD without any hiccup. I hope security situation won't get worse & if such thing happen, BD govt. can deploy military & para-military forces to ensure the security of the teams & fans as they r doing now in BD during election. I wanna congratulate Afghans on this great occasion. They really deserve to play against all Asian full members not alone vs PK. As some Afghan cricketers have already played in BPL T20 & DPL 1-day competitions in BD, conditions won't b a issue for them. Best of luck for all 5 teams, especially for Host & Debutant!

Would have liked to seen Nepal added to the competition too with, two groups of three teams and the top team from each group, playing the final e.g.

Group A- Ind, Bang and Afg.

Group B- Pak, SL and Nepal. Final- Group A winner vs Group B winner

It would have shortened the format and every encounter would have been of value.

Having faced dire consequences in spite of assurances from Pak in the past SLC should make sure BD prop up the security to the desired level & not just a lip service. SL's BD tour should go ahead if there is assurance from the ICC that T20 WC will be held in BD & if not it should be considered not worth to take the risks for the bilateral tour. As an Indian fan - everything about this news is great. It is great that Bangladesh is the host. They are especially strong at home and as seen in the last Asia Cup, can give India, Pak, SL a run for its money. This makes for a healthier competition. B'desh and Pak both could seriously use some home games for completely different reasons. Pak unf. is straved of being the host for political reasons and one hopes their Govt does something about it but upcoming countries like B'desh would gain immensely from such multi-nation tournament exposure. And for Afghanistan, this can mean great things. IMO Afghanistan and Ireland are the only two associate nations truly worthy of challenging for a test spot. You can see the heart with which the Afghans play. All great things ahead - look forward to the Asia Cup.

Posted by   on (January 4, 2014, 11:33 GMT)

Finally something good is coming out....Afghanistan will get games against its superior and older Cricketing siblings...My suggestion is that the format of Asia Cup can changed to home and away matches in each country just like the highly popular 6 Nations Rugby Union Championship of Europe. This will give tremendous context to every game and the rapid change in venues will give real test to teams...The champion could simply be decided based on points and NRR or the 2 top teams can have a 3 match playoffs to deide the champion....I understand that the Logistics for such tournament will be a bit tough but simply not impossible. An even though we can't have home games in Pak and Afg but UAE has a sizable diaspora of both these countries so support is not an issue..And who maybe 5-10 years down the line we could have likes of UAE itself, or Nepal or PNG joining the competition... We only need the world's richest sports body to rise a bit above its own interest for this to happen....

Thanks ACC, it was a very wise decision to add Afghanistan on the table & all those who supported this great point. Also to STAR INDIA who is managing the broadcasting side, You guys just found another new market for yourself. Because millions of people here in Afghanistan will be watching this event and will be glued to their TV screens. At the end once again thanks from all those fans who support & supported our Great team.

It would be great to see Afghanistan as the next Asian giant in Cricket. They should get opportunity to perform at the highest level and in all big tournaments for the best interest of the cricket as a whole. Till today many nations like Kenya, PNG, UAE, Nepal could not maintain success as they remain behind for long. Bangladesh before 1997 was such a nation with very little support from fan, government, sponsors and rest of the cricketing nations. Since Bangladesh beat PNG at KL and got ticket for 1999 world-cup every scenario started to change for Bangladesh and finally test status paved to way for Bangladesh to make the game popular in the country with gradual progress. We hope Afghanistan will also opt this opportunity and patronize cricket for making them better represented globally and this Asia Cup may be the start for them. Best wishes for Afghan team ...

great news for Bangladesh that they remain the hosts for the tournaments and as long as it is safe, that's the way it should be. Also fantastic news for Afghanistan that they have been included. I have a lot of time for Afghanistan, they have a lot of problems going on in their country and despite this, they have done fantastically well to get to where they are in such a short space of time.

I think both World T20 and Asia cup will not happen in Bangladesh.Asia cup can be done in UAE as it will have supporters for all countries including Afghanistan

Regards T20 it should be jointly hosted by India and Srilanka.

We also love Afghanistan. No Doubt . They are our brothers. Thats why we call them in domestic & wel gave Moral Vote as the first team today. But some Pakistanis are commenting that, Pakistan also gave us test status. Yes !! But not as the first team. They gave it even after SL, WI & India. Yet, we r greatful to u (That's why I m writing 'Pakistan', not 'pakistan'). We visited Pakistan in 2008 when ur prime minister died & Pak was in risk & none wanted to pay a visit. We also tried it for this time, but the fault was not us.Bangladesh always wishes good for Afghan & also for Nepal. But both the Pakistan & India r Diplomatic. I like to see that, one day Afghan & Nepal will be a good team & ASIA will reighn the world. (N.B.: BD also paid a visit to SL in 1996 & they never forgot that)

very nice ,we love it ,waiting to watch it

"We wanted to add Nepal also, but no one agreed without Bangladesh & Sri Lanka. Even in the case of Afghanistan, BCB gave their Moral Vote as the first member."--The CEO of ACC. Though Bd is not a big country, but they raised their hand towards Afghan. #Respect form Sri Lanka for Bangla & Best of luck Afghan

This should be a blue ribbon event. Instead it's lost in a mix mash of pointless ODI tournaments!

Posted by asiacricket1234 on (January 4, 2014, 10:12 GMT)

@Bouncer: I donno why some Pak fan claim that it was Pak who give us test status. U guys need to stop claiming for thing that u didnt do. It was India whose backing helped us to get test status & after that we got vote of 7 out of 9 countries & u were just one of them. As for Afghan team we think of them as our brother & we want them to do well. As for taking them in Asia Cup it was not on BCB to pick them. It was done by ACC but yes we did support them like we always did. The only reason u pick Afghan players bcz nobody else go to Pakistan but we give them opportunity although we can get players from another country. As for Pak playing Asia cup: if u dont wanna send ur team than dont.

Posted by bouncer709 on (January 4, 2014, 10:12 GMT)

@asikbadhon : First of all you read the comments of your country fellow who said other Asian countries are not supporting Associate Asian teams, and yes I remember last Asia cup, you players crying after final match, do you remember? and its true you have not played single ODI against Afghanistan, it is Pakistan who played against Afghanistan to give them exposer, so it tells the real story who are afraid to play against Afghanistan. and Now BD is not safe, then why you want other countries to play in BD?.. be Ready Afghans will kick you out in first round in T20.

Great news for Afghan cricket. They can rise as a formidable team within a decade if they keep getting opportunities like this regularly. Best wishes from India.

Posted by   on (January 4, 2014, 10:03 GMT)

A bad decision to still have it in Bangladesh, the country is heading for a civil war, Pak should boycott and lets see what the sponsors say. Sri Lanka was a better choice.

@bouncer70: everybody knows that Pak is not safe...so how can we want to go there!it was mustofata kamal who wanted a tour of BD for his personal interest!but nobody on that time was agree with his decision, even people protest it through fb,newspaper and rally!and who said you that we are warried about AFG,we haven't play a single odi with them!and do you know who were behind you!remember last asia cup we met last!

Very positive outcomes from the meeting. Now I have hope that Cricket has an excellent future. We are seeing full members recognising teams like Ireland and Afghanistan and want the sport to grow and develop for the long term. Fantastic and wise move for Afghanistan to be included in Asia Cup since it is one of the ways to give them more exposure and invaluable experience. Maybe one day in future, will will get to see Nepal who are also on the rise. Asia Cup can actually be a big thing if carefully managed and 2nd only to the world cup. Also thanks to ACC and other organisations in meeting for recognising and understanding the situation in Bangladesh and we sincerely hope things will get better soon.

@Brannavan Ramachandran : it.doesn'tmatter if they win or lose, they are emerged to the world cricket and we should welcome, it's not that every team will find success in first attempt, we should give them exposure.... I think this increases competition, and thus competitive cricket.... all the best Afghan team...

Afganistan entry is awesome, but venue should be changed. Bangladesh is not safe host for Asia Cup???

Posted by   on (January 4, 2014, 9:03 GMT)

Welcome Afghanistan! Bangladeshis are happy to see ur rapid progress and expect a 5th Asian test playing nation within next decade!

Posted by bouncer709 on (January 4, 2014, 8:59 GMT)

@Nayeen Shahada: It was Pakistan who supported BD to get test status, but it was mistake on our part, because when hard time came on Pakistan cricket then BD showed us back. and by the way it is Pakistan who always supported Afghan cricket, they played most of their cricket in Pakistan, now BD seeing the situation and worry of Pakistan to withdraw from the tournament, BD had no other choice to call Afghanistan too in the tournament to make it successful, otherwise BD are not as good as they might pretend. and this is BD who are always worried of Afghan team leaving them behind not Pakistan.

So happy for Afghanistan. Now this tournament can be called Asia Cup.

It is big time we included other Asian teams too. Better late than never. Now this Asia cup is going to be interesting.

I was following U-19 Asia Cup closely...Afg youngsters played well there too. Very soon we will be watching Team Afg fighting neck to neck other full member teams for any particular series.

Good Luck !

Big Thanks to ACC for including Afghanistan to participate int he tournament. What a massive opportunity this is for Afghanistan to improve their skills and get use to the pressure of big events. This tournament will also enable Afghanistan to get use to Bangladesh condition for the upcoming T20 World cup. ACB should be on top of the moon and should grab this opportunity with both hands.

Thank you everyone!!!! who have supported Afghanistan in this process.

Posted by Binodbikash on (January 4, 2014, 8:33 GMT)

The Asia cup used to be six team tournament until very recently. The four full members plus finalists of ACC Elite Trophy. Participation of ACC Elite Trophy finalist came to an end citing fixture pile up by full members namely BCCI. If anyone gets back to the premier tournament it should have been the winner of ACC Elite Trophy i.e. Nepal or UAE (joint winners). This is very sour especially to Nepalese fans given the previous Asia Cup(2006) they qualified for was canceled too.

Lots of love and respect from an Afghan

@Brannavan Ramachandran, it doesn't matter if Afghanistan get demolished or win, all Afghanistan needs is more exposure against top teams to get experience. by the way, time will proof that Afghanistan gets demolished or they make history in Asian Cup.

Thanks ACC for supporting bangladesh & thnx Bangladesh for supporting Afghan as the first team to vote for. Even ACC CEO & former bangladeshi official Syed Ashraful tried hard for Afghans. He also tried it for Nepal but got no Response.

Oh Afghan Brothers, Do u know that? Bangladesh voted u as the first team. Bangladesh want to see u in progress. Though we have problem with pakistan bcoz of WAR in 1971, but we dont have any problem with Afghan. Even in BPL & other domestics, we call ur players. But it is sad that, u dont like us

Posted by   on (January 4, 2014, 7:59 GMT)

Good news for us ,,, Now they have the opportunity and hopefully they will beat a test nation this time around be it Bangladesh, Pakistan, India or Srilanka that will be magnificent !

Congratulations to BCB, well done! and hope we can host world T20 too.

Shame on to all BD haters,

Afghanistan will get demolished. they should be playing in tournaments with ireland, Scotland, Nepal, Netherlands etc

Posted by   on (January 4, 2014, 7:54 GMT)

Thanks Bangladesh for Voting Afghanistan to be added as 5th teams. The BCB CEO said that, BD is always ready to support Afghan & Nepal, if necessary. But it is irony that, other Asians dont want to see the development of Asians . Although Sri Lanka is totally exceptional. They r actually our best frnd indeed. From #Bangladesh

Posted by krinyan on (January 4, 2014, 7:52 GMT)

I would love to see Nepal too.. since they recently qualified for t20 wc.. would've been better if it was a six nation Asia Cup or maybe Afghanistan is a back up team in case Pak withdraws in the last moment due to security reasons, we'll have to wait and see i guess.

Thank you ACC .We Bangladeshis won't let you down INSH-ALLAH

Posted by Baundele on (January 4, 2014, 7:51 GMT)

It is a good decision by the ACC. Bangladesh is quite safe for cricketers, as there is no terrorism problem. And the political unrest is due to the election tomorrow. Once the election is over, the situation will get even better.
