India in Bangladesh ODI Series - 1st ODI

Bangladesh v India

India won by 5 wickets (with 6 balls remaining)

10.14 The Indian team is coming out. We will have play in couple of minutes. The openers are out as well.

10.03 local time Hello! The rain has stopped. Sun is out. Sunshowers: The fox is getting married somewhere. Schizoprehenic weather. The covers are coming off. Musical chairs out there at Mirpur.

Cultures all over the world have responded to rains during sunlight, creating folktales about fox wedding. According to Wikipedia: ' In Arabic, it seems the term is "the rats are getting married", while Bulgarians prefer to speak of bears doing so. In Hindi, it becomes "the jackal's wedding." One animal, the fox, crops up all over the world, from Japan to Armenia; there's even an English dialect term, "the foxes' wedding," known from the south west of England. In Calabria, it is said that "when it rains with sun, the foxes are getting married." Other betrothed parties include tigers (Korea), witches (Spain), the poor (Greece), and leopards (various African languages). In Polish, the saying is that "when the sun is shining and the rain is raining, the witch is making butter."

In South African English, it is referred to as a "monkey's wedding," a loan translation of the Zulu umshado wezinkawu, a wedding for monkeys. In Afrikaans, it is referred to as jakkalstrou, jackals wedding, or also as jakkals trou met wolf se vrou, meaning "when the jackal marries the Wolf's wife." '

I love the Polish explanation. The witch is making butter. Awesome!

9.58 local time Rain again. Not heavy though. The covers are coming on. Aargh.

Hello and a warm welcome to the first ODI between Bangladesh and India. I am Sriram Veera and will be bringing you the live coverage today.

Toss Bangladesh have chosen to bat. Habibul Bashar reckons 230-240 will be a very good score on this track. Dry wicket. It will take spin later and is likely to get slow and low. It will be a 49 over game.

Team news Mashrafe Mortaza will miss the game due to a back injury.

9.05 local time Good news. Rain has stopped. Covers are coming off.

9.00 am: Rain Sidharth Monga, our man at the ground, is getting wet. It's drizzling at Mirpur, the covers are on but he is hopeful that the elements will relent.

Click here to read the preview. Sidharth Monga writes, "The wicket at the Mirpur Stadium has a dry look; There are cracks visible even from far but they don't appear too significant and are unlikely to open up during the course of the game. Dravid expects it to grip, which makes the Bangladesh spin trio crucial. Having kept India's batsmen on a tight leash at the World Cup, they should prove a handful on this wicket." More in that link above.

And hop on here for some numbers game by S Rajesh and HRG.

And remember Khaled Mahmud, the fighter? Here is an interview done by BanglaCricket editor Khondaker Mirazur Rahman.

Do send us your thoughts on the game.

Big game for Ashraful. His 100th ODI. "It's just another international match for me. Yes, I am fortunate that I can play 100 matches at my age but I have no special planning rather I want to play my own game to contribute highest for my side," he said. "I don't feel any pressure as a vice-captain rather I believe that it can help my batting. I want to be positive about my job and no doubt it would be great if I play something special on this special day."

1.2

Sreesanth to Tamim Iqbal, no run, again slips down the leg side, must have clipped the pad as the Umpire doesn't call it a wide.

Sreesanth to Tamim Iqbal, no run, Corrects his line, hurls one outside off stump and it went straight with the arm. Tamim couldn't resist the urge to have a swipe and is beaten

1.4

Sreesanth to Tamim Iqbal, no run, big appeal for a catch down leg side. Full-pitched down the legside, moving away, and it clipped something on the way to a diving Dhoni. Indians think its wood, umpire is convinced it was off the pad.

1.5

Sreesanth to Tamim Iqbal, 1 wide, Mixed bag this from Sreesanth. Way outside off stump. The wrist position went awry at the release. He wanted to push it across Tamim.

1.5

Sreesanth to Tamim Iqbal, no run, beaten. Much closer to the off stump and it seams away and again Tamim has a lame poke. He must be confused with all this wayward bowling. At times down leg side, at times it is way outside off and suddenly one teases the outside edge.

2.5

Khan to Javed Omar, no run, And again. This one was much better. It landed around leg stump on a length and went right across Omar who had a waft but is completely surprised by the amount of movement. The rain and the foxes must have spiced up the track.

Drinks break. The Daily Star, a Bangladesh daily, has this to say about the ground. "Today when the Tigers take on India, Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium will complete a full circle by becoming the home of cricket from a football and athletics ground.

A wall of honour comprising of all the captains who led Bangladesh through history and the trophies that the country have won adorn the main entrance of the arena that is aptly named after one of the greatest leaders of the sub-continent AK Fazlul Haq.

Portraits of past captains Shamim Kabir, Shafiqul Haq, Roquibul Hasan, Gazi Ashraf Hossain, Faruque Ahmed, Minhazul Abedin, Akram Khan, Aminul Islam, Naimur Rahman, Khaled Mashud, Khaled Mahmud, Rajin Saleh and present captain Habibul Bashar are lined above cupboards with trophies that Bangladesh won against Zimbabwe, Kenya as well as a plaque from the ICC after Bangladesh became the tenth Test playing nation."

He tossed it up beautifully, above the eye-level, outside off stump, Bashar comes down the track but the ball dips rapidly, turns and beats the intended lofted shot. Makes contact with the inside half of the bat, much like how Tamim fell, and gently loops up to mid on. Bashar's miserable run with the bat continues.

Sam is fuming: "Munaf bowling at a pace of 126.1 kmph ? Is it a joke ? Not long ago he had castled visiting England with a 9-wicket haul in a match in the tour game that propelled his entry to the team and at the time, he was termed as fastest bowler in the country. Since then his pace has ridiculously dropped. Why does it happen that every one who plays for India gets his pace dropped ? Pathan, Patel, Zaheer. And the ones who have pace -- RP, Sree are erractic and inconsistent"
