Pakistan's No. 1 spinner Saeed Ajmal has signed with the Adelaide Strikers for the Twenty20 Big Bash League. He will be available for the Strikers' first match, against the Perth Scorchers, and may then return for the latter stages of the tournament.

Ajmal's signature represents a significant addition to the Strikers and the BBL, his spinning variations having teased and confused batsmen the world over in recent times, not least those of Australia.

"I am really excited about playing for the Adelaide Strikers and really happy that I will get the chance to show my talent in the BBL," Ajmal said.

"I am very keen to meet up with the rest of the boys soon and play my best in the games that I am available, with the hope that Adelaide make the final stages and I can return to help win the competition."

The Strikers coach Darren Berry said he was delighted to have signed Ajmal, the latest example of his policy of using spin as an attacking weapon on dry surfaces at Adelaide Oval.

"We know what this guy is capable of, having seen him run through both the Australian and English batsmen a couple of months ago, so to have him on board is a great result for the Strikers," Berry said.

Adelaide have also signed the South Australia wicketkeeper Tim Ludeman and the Queensland legspinner Cameron Boyce.

Course Ajmal is better than Ashwin he's ranked number 1 spinner in the world but Ashwin has a bright long future ahead of him unlike Ajmal. How old is Ajmal? he started his career so late. I rather watch Ashwin bowl the Carrom Ball 1000 of times than the Doosra which always gets criticism. Plus Ashwin can bat infact unlike Ajmal he achieved a rare 5 wicket haul and test 100 in the same test match :P

Ajmal is far better bowler than Ashwin and world knows that, that is why he ranked far better than Ashwin. So what is the point talking about this hear?

when Ajmal took wickets against England, my Indian brother said what a bowler he is. Indians are envious just because Australian domestic teams are singing Pakistani players, whereas Indian flat track bullies are being ignored by them. Where was Ashwin when Australia thrashed India. Ashwin took nine wickets in three test matches while Ajmal took eleven wickets in three test matches- and in one innings Pakistan didn't get a chance to bowl. to conclude, Ajmal got 11 wickets in two and a half test while ashwin took nine. Get your facts right. This is only one series that Pakistan played outside subcontinent against a quality team. I didn't include west indies tour and others. If my fellow Indian brothers and others are envious of Ajmal's accomplishments then it's biasness and nothing else. If someone has some reservations regarding Ajmal's action then go and complain to ICC. If you don't accept ICC verdict then It's your problem not Ajmal's problem. Indian please stop being ridiculous.

One cannot compare ASHWIN with AJMAL...Ashwin is miles ahead of AJMAL ..AJMAL is pathetic once he went outside SUBCONTINENT...

ashwin has taken 5 5 wickt hauls and that too against nz and wi who r not that good test teams ,, so u ll quite see that most of his wickets are agains minnows of test cricket morever ashwin has always been thrashed outside india where is carrom ball is more wayward thn carrom striker itself , sorru dudes but comparing ashwin and ajamal u r just shor of mental health

@coolitbaby yeah we saq ashwin in australia last yr HIS brains were pretty obvious to us ! ajmal picks up wickets against giants in test crickets sl eng sa and bamboozled the likes of aus , we ll see what ashwin will do in sa next yr and what ajmal will do to sa next yr !

@coolitbaby: If you noticed, I was being very brief and did not want to analyze the comparison in depth. Ashwin is in the process of establishing himself. In regards to your view on Ajmal, that just your opinion. I have mine. Any batsmen who gets used to a bowler's variation is "thrashed." But until then, we wait :). The same can be said of Ashwin. he can be thrashed as well, if batsmen pick him up early enough. So use that logic of yours and place Ashwin, or rather, any bowler and see if get a different result ;). I never said Ashwin isn't an intelligent bowler. All I have stated is that he is in the process of establishing himself as a quality spinner with what he has at his disposal. The persistent accusations on Ajmal's bowling, well I will leave you to continue with that as I laugh. But let's be fair, it is far to early to start comparing Ashwin right now. Allow him an opportunity to grow before you give the skunk eye and he becomes easily forgotten and looking for form like Bajji

@coolitbaby you are overlooking completly that talent AJMAL posses which ashwin who? is lacking Ajmal if i am not mistaken is in the top three slots of ICC ranking ashwin will get slaughtered by walk through tailhanders
