World Twenty20 2012

Has the group stage of the WT20 been a success?

Yes

There's been a lot to like: quick pitches reducing the reliance on spin, memorable individual performances, and several players making strong comebacks.

No

The format, which removed context from the matches between strong sides, undermined the competition. And the rain ruined several potentially close matches.

Ya It is very competitive first stage,Super eight will be very interesting than ever

The way these WCT20 matches are set are pretty ridiculous where the pre-super 8 matches offered no attraction for the audience and then the post- super 8 would most likely be the same. Given that the TOP TEAMS aka Pak, India, SA, Aussies are in the same group whereas the weaker opponents are all in 1 group. How fair is that for the toppers of the group to come to this hard super 8 and once u win them, the winners of the finals would be very likely predicted... All in all a very BAD decision making, Bad timings for choosing Srilanka (during monsoon) and practically no audience...no passion can be seen..

NO ! Why are the top 4 qualifying teams in the same group ?!

Well Group stage ended as predicted. But how come top four teams of each group are playing against each other in super 8. Not a good format.

This is really base on Ranking so I feel it's good thing, Ranking is all about team played through out the year. :) Very interesting contest between Ausy, India, Pak and SA. Sory my Indian friends. Pak and SA will be the best.

No, What is the benefit of coming at top of the group for teams like India, Pakistan, Australia and South Africa? Why they are in the same group in super 8? Why there are no points carried forward?

It is aboslutely funny to have 3 teams & 4 groups, like the 2007 50-50 worldcup, which went on for eternity . . . and super 8 is a funny concept . . . have 3 roups of 4 each and have super 6 - or 2 groups of 6 each with top 3 going through - - - group stages with just 2 matches per team is ridiculous

Seriously world T20 must be a 10 team tournament everyone plays everyone else then grand finals. No Semi's no Super 8's How can you be a world champion playing 7 games when there are 12 teams in the tournament?

I think having groups with three in them is good as it provides the lesser teams with a good chance to get through with an upset in. However, what irks me about the draw is that in the second group stage, the 4 teams that topped the group in the first group stage are all in the one group - and all the teams that finished second in their group are in a different but "equal" group. In other words the runners up get a better draw which doesn't seem right. And I thought at the Olympics, the women's doubles badminton fiasco would have killed off the concept of having a predetermined draw after the first group stage!

Not sure who decided the groups. Australia, South Africa, India and Pakistan in one group, can't help but wonder this is the strong of the two super 8 groups.
