Were India right to leave out Sehwag?

Yes

Sehwag wasn't in good form, his fitness is ordinary, and playing four bowlers plus Irfan Pathan gives the side a better balance.

No

Sehwag's a match-winner and can destroy a bowling attack like few others. Teams will be happier not having to deal with Sehwag.

But when a team is losing, there will be bad emoontis flying across the team. I remember one time we lost to a team by 10 runs and during our bowling, one guy had given away 24 runs in a single over. He felt very bad and we were all upset because we could have won the game otherwise. And that was just a friendly weekend match.When you have a high-stakes game where people's place in the team is in jeopardy (not to mention all the intense media and fan attention), this will be intensified. Why did Virat pull off the finger stunt? Obviously, he feels the pressure and did not even think of doing that in public. What do you think he is saying in the dressing room?It takes one person to make a thoughtless or patronizing remark when the team is down and everyone is upset for emoontis to flare up pretty bad. I would be very surprised if there were no squabbles or fights. That would actually be a very bad sign: showing that no one cares.

there is no point in letting irfan open and dhoni got to remember that his bowling form declined in 2006-2007 by opening and comin at no.3 which cost him nearly 5 years that he will want to forget atleast, he knows that......

No: For the simple reason that he does not waste time & precious deliveries before he gets going. And those of us questioning his fitness, how fit is Yuvi anyway? And, is Piyush Chawla fit enough? They are clearly overweight & in need of an urgent fitness regimen, though I suspect, Yuvi is already onto it.

Anyday Sehwag is a match winner. Be in form or not. Thanks to England who made Piyush a bowler and tricket Dhoni. Piyush is certainly not in the top spinners in India. (Ashwin, Bhaji, Ohja, Rahul Sharma, Iqbal abdulla, R jadeja) Y pathan, Raina & Rohit are better suited for T20 than P Chawla. Sorry to say Dhoniz capability of reading before, during and after the game is getting very average. Welcome to average decision making club from the Elite decision making club.

I agree he do not fire consistently. However he do not waste deliveries, he brings fear factor to opponents and he is the perfect opening pair with Gambhir. He has to be in the team for now.

Although Sehwag is not in form but he is like once upon a time Sachin was whether he plays or not when he is standing in the crease the opposition will have some fear and will make mistakes to take his wicket. This was one of the biggest mistake i think Dhoni and the selectors have made in match against Australia......;

Leaving out Sehwag, was Hara Kiri, right at the start.....then playing Yuvi & Harbajan, is another mystery. The Team sent to Sri Lanka, is not the BEST Team that we could have selected. Why is that Umesh Yadav not playing, where is Rahane, where is Murali Vijay?? why do we have to pick someone who has not been part of the team for a while. How come Rohit keeps getting chances, despite a poor run in all forms of the games in the last year? Why is it that the guys who shine in IPL not given a chance, to showcase their skills in the World T20 event? Why do we keep tampering with the opening slot, where it has been proved that Sehwag & Gambir have done India proud....we seem to go back to Greg Chapell's era of giving the opening slot to Irfan Pathan.....who is totally out of sorts in both batting & bowling.....and lacks pace....India Team management has to get their act together if not an early exit seems on the cards.!!!

India should play with 7-4 combination. Playing with 5 bowlers doesnt work for India. They should retain sehwag into the team and should use him as the fifth bowler along with yuvraj, raina, rohit and kohli. Sehwag can frighten pakistan if he stays for 7-8 overs in the crease. As India lost with the big margin against australia in the last match, net run rate could become the major head ache for India for qualifying into the semis. So, India need a big win against pakistan and sehwag is the ideal person to help India in the present situation.

I feel in T20's you can actually pick 11 batsmen. The part timers will be as effective as some of these front-line bowlers. Just in T20's, what say?

For me, it was a brave aggressive move. 12 overs of quality spin, on its day, could run through any batting line-up. It would have been the best case scenario, had the pitch offered assistance. I was happy that Dhoni had for once done something 'new' and different. Sehwag is a cricketing great. But, I feel Dhoni had the 4th spinner option in mind. He must have had a massive dilemma on whether it should be Sehwag or Yuvraj. Sehwag doesn't bowl much these days and has had a dismal run with the willow. While Yuvraj could give you 2-3 overs of quality finger spin. Hence, Sehwag had to sit out. It was an amazing decision that severely backfired. Knowing the extreme nature of Indian fans, heavy criticism against this selection is nothing new.
