M. Swaminathan died in Madras on June 9. A right-hand batsman and right-arm leg-break bowler, he represented Madras (now Tamil Nadu) in the Ranji Trophy for five seasons between 1940 and 1952, scoring 430 runs (av. 26.87); his highest score was 129 v Mysore, 1949-50, his only century. He was Physical Director of Madras Medical College and later served with the Ethiopian Government's Ministry of Education and Fine Arts.
