Bobby Madden was an opening batsman whose brief career was split into halves separated by almost a decade. He made his New South Wales debut in 1949-50 and aged 21 in his second match, in 1950-51, he made 73 and 100 against Western Australia. He failed in his next two matches - although he did take three wickets in each with his legspin - and lost his place. It was nine years before he got another chance, and on his return he made 99. He only got two more matches, making 86 runs in three innings. He also played football (soccer) for his state and Australia.
