Dr Derek Williams, known generally as CD, played twice for Wales as a flanker, his appearances coming in successive seasons against France. In the second game, in 1956, his try was the difference between the sides as Wales won 5-3 in Cardiff. He played for Neath before moving on to captain Cardiff. A genuine all-round sportsman, he carried the Olympic flame during the 1948 Olympics, made one appearance for Oxford University at cricket, boxed for his university as a light-heavyweight, and was a two-handicap golfer.
