Ishwar Maraj is a useful left-handed upper-order batsman who excels at finding the gaps and keeping the scoreboard moving in one day-cricket. He is particularly strong behind the wicket, using a mixture of cuts, glances and deflections to work the ball around, but can also drive well, and has a solid defence. Before coming to Canada he played high standard club cricket in Trinidad and also has coached and played professionally in the U.K. He had a strong showing in the 2001 ICC Trophy with three half-centuries, none more important that the 50 in the win over Scotland that took Canada to the World Cup. He is a reliable field and an occasional right-arm spinner. He captains Overseas CC in the Toronto and District League. He carried his bat for 53 in Canada's World Cup match against South Africa, a painstaking innings that set a record for the slowest World Cup half-century (Dave Liverman 2002, 2003).
