Freddie Coleman was brought up in Edinburgh and introduced to cricket by his father. He represented Scotland at every level from U11 up and made his first-class debut for them against the UAE in Sharjah.

He impressed in the U19 World Cup of 2012, scoring 65 against New Zealand and winning a development contract.

Meanwhile Craig Wright, the Scotland performance development manager, recommended him to Warwickshire and, in 2009, Coleman was accepted into the club's academy. He also attended University at Oxford.

He scored a century in just his second first-class game - Oxford MCCU v Worcestershire at the Parks in early 2013 - and then won the Walter Lawrence Trophy for the highest score in a match between Universities or between Universities and first-class counties with an innings of 143 in a two-day game against Durham MCCU. He made his ODI debut against Kenya in June of 2013.

He pleaded guilty to ball tampering in a second XI game in 2013 and was suspended for two games. The punishment itself was suspended for two years.

Opportunities have proven scarce at Warwickshire, though his speed and athleticism in the field have seen him used heavily as a substitute fielder for both club and country. In Scotland's World Cup acclimatisation tour in October 2014, he made a sparkling 56 against a New Zealand XI to press his claims for inclusion in Scotland's final World Cup eleven. There he made a run-a-ball 70 against Sri Lanka.

He made his Championship debut for Warwickshire at the end of the 2015 season, but suffered a pair against Somerset.

With openings limited, Warwickshire announced in June 2016 that he would be released at the end of the season and that he was free to pursue other opportunities immediately.
