The Canadian selectors have invested in youth by selecting a young squad against Kenya in the ICC Intercontinental Cup and three ODIs in Ontario over the next two weeks. Canada will play a four-day Intercontinental Cup match from August 14-17 before taking on Kenya for three 50-over fixtures on August 19, 21 and 23.
Ashish Bagai has been named captain of Canada's 15-man squad for the Intercontinental Cup match and ODIs. John Davison, Geoff Barnett and Ian Billcliff were not available for selection due to various reasons and in their place come three members of Canada's side that won the Americas Under-19 Championship - Rustam Bhatti, the winning captain, the Man of the Series Hiral Patel and 15-year-old Nitesh Kumar. The batsman Jimmy Hansara has also been included. Patel and Nitesh have been included in the ODI squad as well.
"We had a decent tour of Europe and have set a good foundation to build upon," said Canada's coach Pudupu Dassanayake. "Canada has some great young talent and we are keen to see what they can do against top Associate competition."
