Harry Harper, who played once for Worcestershire, against Yorkshire at Worcester in 1920, with little success, died in Birmingham on August 6. Born in Birmingham on February 1, 1889, he was in his 95th year. Since the 1920s he had been with Ashfield CC, Moseley as player and administrator, and he was on the Warwickshire Youth Council committee when well into his eighties. Surprisingly, to those horrified residents of Hall Green who regularly saw him cross busy roads completely oblivious to traffic, Harry Harper died at home, after a fall, still not believing that he was the oldest surviving County Championship cricketer.
