One of a number of Somerset youngsters to have attended King's School, Taunton, Alex Barrow, a right-handed batsman, averaged 160 for King's in 2012 and has been given opportunities in the Somerset first XI, mostly in the middle order, without making a lasting impression.
He signed his first contract in 2010 having come through the Somerset academy and made his first-class debut against Hampshire the following season. He played another three matches in May before returning for the final three games of the season and, standing in for Marcus Trescothick at the top of the order against Yorkshire at Headingley, made his maiden first-class half century.
In 2012 he was given a run in the side, playing nine Championship matches, but struggled more than many in a wet summer and only made 186 runs at 12.40. The following season he was again given his chance in 10 first-class matches. He averaged 23.62 in a season of struggle for Somerset but did make 83 not out to secure a draw against Durham at Taunton.
