West Indies allrounder Dwayne Bravo will not take part in the Champions League for Chennai Super Kings due to a thigh strain. He has been replaced by the Sri Lankan fast bowler Nuwan Kulasekara in the squad that is already in South Africa.

Bravo played in the World Twenty20 final in Colombo which West Indies won by 36 runs against Sri Lanka. Super Kings have also lost batsman S Anirudha, who will be out of action for six weeks after fracturing his right clavicle during the Challenger Trophy in Rajkot. He has been replaced by the left-arm spinner Shadab Jakati.

Upul Tharanga, the Sri Lanka opening batsman, will be out of action for Uva Next due to a broken finger. He has been replaced by Ashan Priyanjan, the right-handed batsman, who led Sri Lanka in the 2008 Under-19 World Cup in Malaysia. Priyanjan didn't play in the Sri Lanka Premier League Twenty20 tournament held in August, which Uva won to qualify for the Champions League.

Yorkshire's Jonny Bairstow was ruled out due to a wrist injury and his replacement is the 18-year old wicketkeeper Ed Wilson.

@rs garcia did you write this contract or read the contract seem to be too well informed....dude just stop callling the bluff if you have proof then show it...or else just watch the fun...

TnT all de way. I hope they Do well and show everyone they can win with out Narine and Pollard and Bravo. People forgot NArine wasnt in TnT when they reach the Final in the CL. but they had BRavo and Pollard, but i hope they will peform well.

@rsgarcia, Never mind the haters. Some (Met)men lead lives of quiet desperation, and prefer to rage against the darkness rather than light a candle. And to that particular fan, the word is "biased", when used in that context, not "bias".

Replace Bravo with Dougie now team will become a mini aussie team with left and right combo deadly attack from dougie and hilfy. kula should be a back up.

Posted by We_Win_All on (October 9, 2012, 15:22 GMT)

Now does CSK gets to keep the $150000 they were to pay T&T to avail Bravo's services. Money matters, you know!!!???

Posted by rsgarcia on (October 9, 2012, 14:05 GMT)

@Metman, it's my understanding they didn't choose the clubs. They were quite willing to play for T&T. However, the IPL teams insisted that they play, or T&T players would face sanctions if they tried to get IPL contracts. They also wrote it into their second year contracts that they had to play for the IPL teams in the CL if they played in the IPL, a direct contravention of the CL law that allows players the choice of playing for their home team, and asks the IPL teams to pay the home team for their services if they choose to play for the IPL team instead.

My CSK team is: 1.hussey 2.vijay 3.Raina 4. Dhoni 5.badrinath 6.Jadeja 7.Morkel 8.Ashwin 9.Hilfenhaus 10.Bollinger 11. Kulasekara/Jakati/fad du plessis

Why arne't Bravo, Narine and Pollard playing for T & T? Surely it defeats the purpose of including a national team if the club sides can cherry pick their best players.

I guess this is kind of blessing in disguise... now we have the opportunity to play both Dougie and Hifly in the XI... so the XI should look like this

Monk, Faf/Hussey, Raina, Badri, Dhoni, Jadeja, Albie, Ashwin, Jakati, Dougie, Hify/Kula

2 Genuine fast bowlers, 2 Genuine Spinners, 1 Fast Bowling All rounder and 1 Spinning All rounder + we have Raina to bowl when needed... Should be competitive team this... Go Chennai, vetri namadhe :-)

Good to know Shadab Jakati is in....He should get more chace...I think KKR or DD have good chance to win CLT20

Posted by   on (October 9, 2012, 11:47 GMT)

Atleast Jakat is in the team, he will do better job than Yo Mahesh. Bravo is a loss, but Faf is a very good replacement for him, and Faf knows all the pitches as well as anyone as the tourney is in SA. For many teams, Bravo will be a big loss, but CSK's strength in depth means that they can quite will win this without him.

@ riverlime ! So what is your point ? where ever you go you have to be bias and should have directed your anger towards Narine,Pollard and Bravo who chose clubs over TnT.

Posted by   on (October 9, 2012, 11:12 GMT)

More damn T20 cricket. It is sure to finish and shorten the cricketing life of our players. Some of the casualties are Malinga, Bravo, Pollard and so on. Come on ICC get your finger out and do something before you get carried away with your own importance and allow the game to go to ruins.

CSK have the arsenal to win the trophy even without Bravo. @S.A.VIVEK Dhoni is the best captain you can have for CSK. there is no need to replace him. CSK just need to keep their batting order correct. My 11: Vijay, Faf, Raina, Badrinath, Dhoni,Albie, Nuwan, Ashwin, Jakati, Yomi, Hilfy.. Chose Faf ahead of Hussey coz he showed he is in good form in the one match he played against India. Also he is familiar with the South African pitches.

Posted by The-love on (October 9, 2012, 10:30 GMT)

@VIVEK:-Yes ofcourse....make vivek captain...not only of CSK but also India....He will make them win definitely....ha ha ha ha....

Posted by riverlime on (October 9, 2012, 10:10 GMT)

Now, if only Narine and Pollard could get "injured" as well, then we'll see how well these supposed "Champion" IPL sides fare against genuine opposition.

Posted by aditya.continous on (October 9, 2012, 9:48 GMT)

nuwan is a good choice...his swinging deliveries will be handy for sri lanka....

Posted by ssenthil on (October 9, 2012, 9:38 GMT)

I think without Bravo CSK will struggle more as he is the one hiding all pathetic Dhoni's slow batting by hitting sixes at will for CSK. Now Dhoni nowhere to hide as hit and miss Albie Morkel always trusted to face only 2 over at max. Tough times for Dhoni as he is going to be exposed.

Kula can make it up for Bravo the bowler and even provide more solidity in the new ball bowling especially if it swings(which it should in SA). But Bravi the batsman will be sorely missed. Dhoni had a very happy cushion in Bravo and Morkel who can do the job with both bat and ball and with Bravo missing and Albie under injury cloud, he will need to use other options. Kula for Bravo is obvious choice. My 11 : Vijay, Hussey, Raina, Badrinath, Dhoni, Ashwin, Yo Mahesh/Jakati, Jadeja, Hilfy/Dougie, Faf/Albie, Nuwan. The choices depend on the conditions. Dougie is more effective against lefties while Hilfy against righties. Faf if Albie is not fit. Choice between Yomi and Jakati based on the conditions.

CSK,Please try some new combinations or atleast change the batting order, Say Jadeja/Dhoni to open

Posted by kirangupta on (October 9, 2012, 9:16 GMT)

Use Hilfenhaus as a pinch hitter. He slogs but can hit them a long way. His bowling is a key factor for CSK

Posted by S.A.VIVEK on (October 9, 2012, 8:28 GMT)

With out Bravo CSK is zero.change the captain....then only csk win

Posted by CricketMaan on (October 9, 2012, 8:18 GMT)

Big BIG blow..Nuwan is good but cannot offer what Bravo did..given that Albie has been injured recently CSK will be struggling. They should have gone for Styris rather than Nuwan.
