Delhi Daredevils v Titans Match abandoned without a ball being bowled
Scorecard and ball-by-ball details

Heavy rain after the toss in Centurion meant the final league match of Champions League T20 was abandoned without a ball being bowled. With that, Delhi Daredevils finished at the top of the group, and drew Lions in their semi-final in Durban on Thursday. Titans will take on Sydney Sixers at home venue, Centurion, on Friday.

The teams, both of whom had already qualified for the semi-final, were two points apart, and the result of the match could have had an impact on the final standings.

Keeping the relatively low stakes in mind, Daredevils had rested captain Mahela Jayawardene to give David Warner a hit. Ross Taylor lost the toss for them.

Titans had also made two changes to give Paul Harris and wicketkeeper Mangaliso Mosehle a game, but it was not to be.

@Haleos, CLT 20 is a world event because no international matches were allowed to be played. This was an ICC event. Fact is that if the T20 world cup was held in South Africa this time of the year, rain interruptions were worse than Sri Lanka. Kindly give credit to the fact that all important Super 8 games, semi finals and finals went without any problem. When Sri Lanka hosted, less games were rain hit than when West Indies hosten the T20 world cup in 2010. No need to compare apples with oranges.

Looking at the final tables for the qualifiers and group stages, there is an interesting observation. Both AA and Yorkshire finished BOTTOM of their respective groups.

Doesn't that mean that the organizers are correct, and we actually have the best teams playing in the group stages?

BCCI please allow Pakistani players in IPL from next year so Pakistani fans and other serial bashers tone down there rhetoric.India won t-20 WC back in 2007 in SA and CSK won CL in SA in 2010 plus the fact Indian team before 8-0 thrashings were doing well in overseas conditions winning series or drawing them,Indian batters are known for there batting prowess,if you look at this CL all our batters have done well enough except Sachin , it is just that Indian bowling has been below par which has cost them, foreign batters for IPL teams have been a let down .Cricket is a niche sport played by 8-9 countries and in half of those countris it is a 2nd or 3rd sport of choice.India with it's billion followers and huge TV deals is only viable financial market.Instead of bashing India pls try to engage with it, we are not Football that we can argue weather EPL is the best, or la liga,or serie a , or bundesliga or latin america.Therfore cricket community collide and not clash.

Any how one team from IPL that's Delhi Daredevil's will be in slought.. Hoping a great semi and if final under the lights of Viru, Mahela, KP, Rossco as well as the rising star Unmukh Chand...

A shame that this match - albeit a dead rubber - was affected by the weather. Although I have no huge interest , I'd like to see Titans win the tournament being a big Thomas/Van Der Merwe fan

Posted by Pablo123 on (October 24, 2012, 9:17 GMT)

Lions vs Titans final - SA vs SA - would be great to see, especially since so many of their players chose their IPL franchise teams instead of playing for their 'home' teams.

@Sinhaya on (October 24 2012, 00:43 AM GMT) It's surely unfair to say any place is bad to host cricket matches just because they get some bad weather. It is what it is - no one wants this bad weather, not least the organisers

KKR beat titans by massive 99 runs. KKR is out of semis but Titans in. MI was 4th in IPL5. They skipped the qualifying round of this years CLT20 because they were the defending CLT20 champions. CSK lost two CLOSE games and won two. DD is in the semis.T20 is an unpredictable format and rain also made a havoc on the results. CSK and MI were the CLT20 champions for the last two years. Even in South Africa majority of fans in the stadium seems to be Indian origin giving splendid atmosphere to the tournament. So think before you bash IPL or IPL teams.

Posted by remnant on (October 24, 2012, 7:58 GMT)

Those who bash the IPL teams should also reflect at the economics and ask themselves which matches had the highest attendance. Were they not those involving the IPl teams? I was actually amazed to see such a huge crwod for the dead rubber involving KKR, and wondered if it was indeed in SA! So try get some perspective: He who pays the piper calls the tune! But I agree two IPL teams out of 4 must go thru qualifying round, which will be actually beneficial as it will give them more time to adapt to the host country's conditions!

Whether its world event or not, cricket is cricket which provides peace and happiness to sports viewers and sports lovers. Not a single brainy sports lover will match apple with orange.

Posted by   on (October 24, 2012, 6:59 GMT)

why someone telling that DD come to the semi final, relief of rain???please see the points table & then talk..Auckland Aces are 4 th places after the yesterday lost..and Perth scrosiers standing 3rd & they lost the game with DD.& DD beaten the KKR so DD is the top team at the Group..if they play yesterday they definitely win the game..see virender shewag in good form now and showing good batting..the team showing their team work .so DD is Stronger in this Series

Posted by Haleos on (October 24, 2012, 6:38 GMT)

@Sinhaya - Sinhala and Co. - CLT20 is a not a world event. Dont compare apples with oranges.

Posted by Haleos on (October 24, 2012, 6:37 GMT)

@ CRmadrid 0- Semi IPL where teams from other countries get a chance to earn some much deserved cash. So either take it or leave it. Your boards are not rich enough to start their own leagues so they join BCCI. Enough of this IPL bashing.

congratz mahela, kelvin, taylor & sewag

I do totally agreew ith Sinhaya. Before criticizing, think of the abnormal change of global weather. Though S/L a tiny island in the map, the name in the globe is different. Even 1996 W/cup was an unbeaten victory for S/L.

Possibility of a SA clash in CLT20-2012 !!!!

Posted by   on (October 24, 2012, 4:14 GMT)

its already a very unpredictable 20-20 format. and with so many wash outs for late night matches the table at the end is not showing the correct picture what it would have been if all matches were played.

This much is sure and perhaps they should have had one more time/dayto conduct the cancelled matches due to rain.

itherwiseits not fair for the teams which must have fared well. take for instance MI match which got washed out. Pollard was simply blazing there.

and perhaps kkr were more determined for thosematches which ultimately got washed out.

@vxttemp: Don't you know MI qualified through IPL, couldn't win a single game in the Main draw. I'm wondering at the level of the IPL teams... And from my previous comment; Only reason DD qualified is that both their tough games had been washed out. Otherwise it would have been Titans and Aukland. And for now let's just forget IPL champion's and runner up's performance...

Posted by   on (October 24, 2012, 3:57 GMT)

Just one out of FOUR Indian teams qualified for the Semis. What a shame!!? Ridiculous tournament with ridiculous & unfair slot distribution.

Posted by   on (October 24, 2012, 3:44 GMT)

CLT it s time to come Sri lanka ,,we like to see CLT20 2013 will play in sri to see IPL teams play in sri lanka..

Posted by CRmadrid on (October 24, 2012, 3:29 GMT)

whole tournament will be a washout including the semis & final. Dont understand why 4 teams from IPL playing when rest of the world plays only one. This is not champions league. This is semi IPL.

Posted by The_Ashes on (October 24, 2012, 1:01 GMT)

Can't believe they're playing this over International Cricket I'm already bored because of it. Been ages since we last saw ODIs and Tests.

Posted by Sinhaya on (October 24, 2012, 0:43 GMT)

Well those who were blaming organizers for scheduling the T20 world cup in Sri Lanka when ONLY 1 game ended in no result and when 2 were Duckworth Lewis based and rest of the 24 games went hazzle free, dont the critics have to say now that South Africa too is not a good place to host cricket tournaments? They have forgotten that Sri Lanka successfully hosted 2 tests against England this year without any weather interruptions and also hosted India for 5 ODIs and T20s in July without any weather problems. Yes with Pakistan in June, 1 test and one ODI was badly rain hit

Posted by vxttemp on (October 24, 2012, 0:06 GMT)

@bashing IPL teams: Don't you guys know Yorkshire qualified through qualifiers couldn't win a single game in the Main draw. I'm wondering at the level of the teams that lost during the qualifiers itself. Thought Pakistan and SL teams participated in the tournament qualifiers atleast. Have they?

Posted by   on (October 23, 2012, 21:07 GMT)

The fact is this is not a champions league. Teams finishing third and fourth in their league should not be here. It would not make the competition less competitive because there are teams in the competition which have players playing for the Indian teams which they miss. I don't think anyone will truly respect the competition until somehow the format changes to only champions get in the group stages automatically. The second placed teams can then battle for the remaining two spots in the prelims.

DD face tougher of the 2 teams in Lions. SS is defintely much weaker without Watson & would not have won 4 matches without him. Lions with Bodi, McKenzie, De Klock & Phangiso still represent a very strong team. DD will have to play at their best to win against Lions. I still prefer Warner to open the innings with Sehwag followed by Jaya & KP in the batting line up. DD's preference for Taylor is incorrect.Warner is a much tougher player with better S/R than Taylor. DD needs to put 200 on the board & Warner is needed to put that total. In bowling the 4 pronged pace attack will have to be at their beat containing the top 4 high S/R Lion's batsmen. I expect a very tough match & unless DD play their best game it will be not be easy to win. Titans on the other hand will have to bat at their best to match the 4 pace bowlers from the SS. SS's batting is weak & if Titans bowl well they can dismiss SS for around 120 runs. It will be close game too. Good luck DD - the only IPL team left!

Posted by ALiQamar on (October 23, 2012, 20:11 GMT)

Only reason DD qualified is that both their tough games had been washed out. Otherwise it would have been Titans and Aukland. Its a shame that only 1 of 4 IPL team qualified for semis... Next time IPL should send 8 teams may be 2 of them qualify.

oh yea, sidharth good point! i actually wanted some of u to say something about the title tune. oh did someone say something about ipl teams, yea 3 out of 4 wud hav qualified if 'one' of their matches had gone a different way also too! indian cricket is doing what it does best, generate excitment and revenues wherever it goes :P, cheeky 4 !

@ Morfi: Aha, had MI's match vs Yorkshire not been rained off things might have been different. Had KKR's match vs PS not been rained off things might have been diff. Had CSK won their 1st 2 games both of which were very close things might have been different. And lastly, DD had another game rained off too, things would have been even wider then. If you are English or Aussie then you should worry about Yorkshire, Hampshire and Perth Scorchers. Yorkshire won ZERO matches in the group stage while Hampshire went home from the qualifiers itself with ZERO wins. Perth Scorchers were easily the weakest team in their group and could only defeat AA when they were under severe pressure to chase quickly. I don't need to remind you about Eng's 80 all out vs India on the so called FLAT WICKETS OF SUBCONTINENT and about Aus's 89 all out in UAE vs Pak. Btw, how many WC have Eng won since 1975? When did Eng beat India in India in tests? I think it was 28 years ago. Aus are 0-4 vs India too. WOW !!!

Posted by Morfi on (October 23, 2012, 18:58 GMT)

Out of 4 IPL teams in the tournament, only 1 has qualified for the Semis.. that too was in jeopardy if one match had gone a different way... what a shame.... no wonder Indian cricket is doing what its doing....

What happens if the semi finals are a washout? Who qualifies? And then if the final is also a washout?

Posted by   on (October 23, 2012, 18:33 GMT)

all my best with delhi derdevils. being an indian, i want to them to win the tournament handsomely...

Posted by Cricketfan11111 on (October 23, 2012, 17:35 GMT)

Hope the two group toppers Delhi and Sydney go to the final. The two teams with the best bowling attack.

Posted by   on (October 23, 2012, 17:29 GMT)

@aby_manyu... had auckland won wid a gud run rate...then it wud have been above titans

Delhi Daredevils reaching in semis !!!!!

Posted by landl47 on (October 23, 2012, 17:09 GMT)

I thought England's weather was bad, but this tournament has been ridiculous. Whoever came up with the idea of holding it at this time of year in SA?

Posted by aby_prasad on (October 23, 2012, 16:55 GMT)

as it turned out, even if auckland had won, they would have been out, bcos this match is now washed out and both gets 2 points each! What a pity! the rain and that situation is as good as the title song of this tournament elaoelaoha
