Champions League Twenty20 - Final

Lions v Sydney Sixers

Sydney Sixers won by 10 wickets (with 45 balls remaining)

Five minutes away. Adam's struggling to keep awake in Australia: "It's nearly 1:30am here, desperately trying to keep myself awake. I'll make it once I hear Ravi Shastri booming a big "HELLO HOW ARE YOU" into my ears."

The official 2010 football World Cup song is playing to cheer the home side Lions. Nathan McCullum to open the bowling.

5.15: 15 minutes to the first ball. I very nearly typed chequered flag. Today of course was the Indian GP. Red Bull's Sebastian Vettel finished on top.

Right now the popular band Parlotones is entertaining the crowd.

Nilesh feels there will be no fall-out for the IPL teams: "None of IPL teams could get through to finals, while an Australian team bangs straight on target with full confidence and straight wins! Forget it, its all gonna be bygones-be-bygones-and-nothing-learnt, just like those recent dreadful test matches India played with England and Australia."

Let's forget about the IPL teams. They weren't good enough. This is Lions v Sixers.

Toss: Sydney Sixers have won the toss and they will bowl first. They are unchanged from the semi-final. The Lions too are unchanged. If the pitch is just as good for batting as the experts have described it, then it could be a brave decision by Haddin.

Speaking of Haddin, he is playing, despite an injured thumb. Nothing's stopping him. He wants his hands on that trophy. This is also a major pay-day for the players - $2.5m. Read more in this preview by Siddarth Ravindran.

Here's how the teams made the final, starting with the Lions and then Sydney.

4.45pm: Good Sunday to all of you wherever you are and welcome to the coverage of this season's Champions League final. Lions v Sydney Sixers, or 'South Africa v Australia' if you wish to look at it that way. Let's get straight to the weather. It's sunny at the Wanderers, so that's some good news to get underway.

Toss in 15 minutes. It's quite fitting really that the two best teams are in the final. Sure the country would have hoped for an all South Africa final, but, the Sydney Sixers just about got across in the semis. The Titans fought till the last ball. Could so easily have been a Super Over.

The Sixers upstaged one 'home team' the other night. Can they do nit again? The Lions are on home turf at the Wanderers. The tickets were sold out in advance. Expect another partisan crowd. They want to see their boys lift a trophy. Firdose Moonda has more on the Lions.

Pitch: Though this hasn't been a very high-scoring tournament, the experts believe the batsmen will love this one. There's talk of the kid of pitch for the '438 game' here six years ago.

Jose writes from India: "Hoping the Sixers on the Dinner Menu hunted by Lions."

Seeing lots of mails comparing Symes' fighting knock to Samuels' innings in the World T20 final. Lions did recover from 9 for 4, but will 121 test the Sixers? So much for the 'belter' of a pitch predicted before the start of play. The Sixers deserve credit for thinking out of the box and opening with spinners. The Lions obviously didn't expect that and their top order melted and panicked. Symes did really well to take them on, not intimidated by the seam trio.

Will there be a surprise? Join us shortly for the chase.
