Big Picture

It's easy, if Trinidad & Tobago beat Chennai Super Kings on Wednesday, they qualify for the semi-finals. If they don't they will be tied on points with the Titans. T&T are ahead of the Titans on net run-rate, but it is only a marginal advantage. For instance, if they bat first and score around 125, or more, they need to lose with three or lesser balls to spare to qualify. In other words, they should make Super Kings play at least 19.3 overs, or the Titans will go through.

If T&T are chasing, they need to make sure they lose by five or lesser runs to qualify. So whether Super Kings score 50 or 250, all T&T need to do is fall not more than five runs short if they end up losing. Even though T&T have won two of their three games batting first, they may want to chase this time as taking an in-form Super Kings side to the last three balls of the chase might be tougher than getting within five runs of the target themselves.

T&T draw confidence from their progress in the tournament as their totals have ascended from 135 to 160 and then to 188. What they need to work on, is their bowling. Since Ravi Rampaul's four wickets in their tournament opener, against Brisbane Heat, their attack has relied heavily on Sunil Narine's dexterity. As they don't have their fate in their own hands, Titans can only watch from the sidelines and hope for a qualification.

Super Kings are not playing for nothing. Currently at the top of the table, they can still be displaced if they lose heavily to T&T. Much will have to go against Super Kings for that to happen as they have clicked in all departments in the three matches so far. Their opening looks stronger after M Vijay followed his two ducks with a 27-ball 42, Suresh Raina, Dwayne Bravo and MS Dhoni have torn oppositions apart from the middle order and their slower bowlers made a comeback in their previous match. What needs to be worked on is their pace bowling, and T&T may want to target the fast bowlers in the initial overs as Dhoni has not been opening with R Ashwin in this tournament.

Players to watch

After making headlines in the Caribbean Premier League with a quickfire 54 from 24, 17-year-old Nicolas Pooran has not done much. He has managed scores of 11, 6 and 8 in the tournament and since T&T's middle order has not mustered big scores till now, Pooran is the man they might need to do the job against Super Kings.

Dwayne Bravo was among the top three run-scorers for T&T in the Caribbean T20 with 153 runs at an average of 38.25 and strike rate of over 110. He has also been in fine form recently with four wickets in the tournament and a quickfire 38 against the Titans. However, he will be under the spotlight against his home team now facing the same attack he was a part of and will bowl to the batting line-up he scored with, to win the T20 event earlier this year.

T&T is a good side, Hoping for a good match but everybody knows the strength of CSK.But I think Titants should go through...

Otago's wait & watch is over; with negative results. Now it is Titan's turn to twiddle the thumbs! Would like to be a fly on the wall, where Titans will be gathered to watch the next game!

Who will be Neesham's counterpart within the Titan team?

Coulter Nile taking 3 wickets against his regular home team; Perth. Now Bravo to do something against his home team T&T! Day for the prodigals in the respective families? Every prodigal has his day!

@tuktuk vs Boom Boom: sorry your expectations and your future thinking mumbai Indians have made it to the semifinals sorry for your belief has just failed.

Posted by   on (October 2, 2013, 13:36 GMT)

T&T must bat second.. hunting to survive is better than preserving..CSK will try some new players today the sure and narine should bowl few overs at the slog overs.. emrit to finish his quota as early as possible is imp.. and Pooran can be given an other chance may be in the top order.. all the best T&T..

Posted by   on (October 2, 2013, 13:29 GMT)

Everthing depends on CSk ,whom they want to see in final.!

@TukTukVsBoomBoom, was it 100% sure you said? Well, as of this posting, the Mumbai Indians have advanced to the semis. I hope your predictions regarding T&T are just as accurate.

It will be very difficult for T&T to qualify as per the conditions.

Mike Hussey has not done Team CSK any favor by the untimely release of his book.

Posted by   on (October 2, 2013, 6:14 GMT)

come on T&T. You can beat CSK. Get early wickets of hussey.

Posted by ssenthil on (October 2, 2013, 5:28 GMT)

Thin margin and I think if CSK win they will be going to win comfortably and thus knocking out T & T. But I want to see a close match where CSK wins and T & T goes through.

Posted by VVSR92 on (October 2, 2013, 5:23 GMT)

This game is a virtual quater final for T & T as they simply cant afford to relax on a 5 run or a 3 ball margin vs a mighty csk team. Unless it rains or csk have an average day vs a depleted T & T side w/o match winners in pollard, bravo & cooper. However this team can put up a fight & thus keeping the group alive till the last game is played.

Ours for the taking and we got game.Who says the super kings are unbeaten? Isn't it about time they lost? I don't think at this point in the tournament they should drop Pooran but, they should definitely replace Moh'd with Barath. If T&T win the toss they should bat.Play CSK game...Let them chase...we have good bowling and we haven't played our best yet.

Posted by cnksnk on (October 2, 2013, 3:23 GMT)

CSK should probably tests their bench strength. Give Faf, Morris and Imitiaz a go.. Anyway CSK will win... but to check out the rest of the team before the semis will be good. However knowing Dhoni and Flemming they may just play the same team. CSK's strength has been consistency in team selection.

Posted by Siva_Bala75 on (October 2, 2013, 2:40 GMT)

The maximum safety margin for CSK loss is 20 runs or 14 balls. Anything worse, CSK will be placed second and need to go to Jaipur to face RR.

Just remember we are behind you 100% Trinidad and Tobago! They think we can't beat CSK. They think 188 and 6 wickets was 'lucky'. That rain saved us. Let's show them why the Champion West Indies T20 team is 2/3 Trinbago. Play your best tomorrow. We know you can do it if you give your all! We going for a win guys, nothing less! Trini to de bone!!!

tandt's fast bowling department is worst than any other team in clt20.

Posted by BRUTALANALYST on (October 2, 2013, 0:53 GMT)

We'eve had Morkel v Morkel now it's time for Bravo v Bravo haha if only David Hussey played for Brisbane we could of also had Hussey v Hussey all in the same group.

Just a repeat. Please send in Simmons at No.4. Open with either Pooran or bring in Bharath. This will be a crucial move since Simmons has been more successful as of late batting lower down the order. We have also lost and almost lost our games in the 16th-20th overs. We need to put more runs in those overs and also tighten up on our bowling there. I do hope the selctors read this to take note.

Posted by   on (October 2, 2013, 0:25 GMT)

I do hope the selectors read this before the start of play. Please drop Simmons to bat at No.4. Either open with Pooran or bring in Bharath. Simmons have been more successful lower down the order. This will be a key move. Also from the previous games we lost and almost lost the games in the LAST 5 OVERS. Something has to be done since either not enough runs scored in the last 5 overs or our bowlers gave it away.

Posted by RicHarder on (October 1, 2013, 22:38 GMT)

I think Pooran should be rested, he does not looks to fit in the CPL. Trinidad should replace him with either Ganga or Ottley, at least if they fail with the bat there is the extra bowling option. It may be also a good idea to bring in Bharath instead of Mohammed to open the innings and bring Simmons to # 3 or #4. Reyad Emrit should retain his place but he is a rhythm bowler and as previously mentioned, he should bowl out his overs. Since Stewart has developed as somewhat of a batsmen, Shannon Gabriel could be considered for his pace, but that depends on the condition of the pitch.
