Chennai Super Kings v Trinidad & Tobago, CLT20, Delhi October 2, 2013

T&T top table after thumping victory

97

Trinidad &Tobago 119 for 2 (Simmons 63, Lewis 38) beat Chennai Super Kings 118 (Raina 38, Emrit 3-21) by eight wickets
Scorecard and ball-by-ball details

Trinidad & Tobago are the only team from outside the three countries that own a stake in the Champions League to be given direct entry to the tournament, a special status they justified by topping the league table after hammering one of the CLT20 favourites, Chennai Super Kings.

The already-qualified Super Kings' famed batting had a rare off day, and the team were bowled out for only the seventh time in 117 matches. Having been rolled over for 118, Super Kings couldn't prevent T&T from completing the chase within 17.4 overs, which meant they surrendered the top spot in the group. It left them facing the challenge of breaking Rajasthan Royals' 12-game winning streak at home in the semi-finals.

It was a day when almost everything went right for T&T, epitomised by the game Man-of-the-Match Lendl Simmons had. Simmons came into this match on the back of two ducks but contributed with bat, ball and in the field in T&T's dominant performance.

Simmons' first contribution to the game came in the 9th over, by when Super Kings had got off to a familiar solid start. M Vijay and Suresh Raina were stroking the ball around and another tall total looked on the cards, but Simmons struck first ball with a loosener well outside off that Vijay inside-edged onto the stumps. In his next over he had Raina squandering his wicket by helping a gentle leg-stump delivery to short fine leg.

Then came the biggest wicket of them all, MS Dhoni's, just when the Super Kings captain was looking to cut loose. In the 17th over, Dhoni top-edged an attempted big hit and the ball swirled towards Simmons at long-on. Simmons settled under it but the ball bounced off his palm and onto his neck; he kept his eyes on the ball and grabbed it on the second attempt. After that, instead of the usual final flourish, Super Kings made only 16 runs in the concluding three overs.

Simmons had fortune with bat as well, cluelessly edging the first ball of the chase from R Ashwin between the keeper and slip, and surviving a stumping shout after being beaten off the second. His innings only switched to top gear in the 10th over when Ravindra Jadeja conceded 19 to extend a horrendous run in the tournament. Simmons was also dropped just before reaching his half-century but a series of brutal hits had already eased T&T towards victory.

There was plenty of support for Simmons: opener Evin Newis had another good game with the bat to ensure Super Kings didn't pull off a heist, Ravi Rampaul began the Super Kings collapse with a screamer to dismiss the uber-consistent Michael Hussey, Sunil Narine was at his miserly best and three Super Kings batsmen were run out as the team collapsed from 78 for 2 to 118 all out.

In the four times they have played the CLT20, T&T have had only one bad campaign - last year when they were knocked out after one loss and a washout in the qualifiers - and this table-topping performance underlined why they are among the best T20 sides in the world.

T&T have done a lot of good to their chances of clinching this tournament. If they beat MI then they have to face either of CSK or RR. Furthermore, if they have one more good day agaisnt CSK/RR then they can be the winners. T&T have been the revelation of this tournament from the outset. They form the heart of WI T20 champion team. Go on T&T.

Personally i think it's great for World Club Cricket that a team like T&T full of homegrown players and as we've seen with Bravo and Pollard playing for their IPL franchises, not necessarily their strongest team on paper, is defying all the odds and playing good, competitive team-cricket in this format. More often than not the big-money teams with their multi-million dollar players are quite rightly too strong for the majority of opposition, but it is such a breath of fresh air to see the so-called minnows of Trin & Tab stick it to the Daddy-Warbucks of the IPL. Going on to win the whole tournament is beyond a dream, but i'm just immensely proud that they reached the semis of a competition, that was stacked against them in doing so.

I see lot of them here have opined that it is better for CSK to meet RR than MI. I feel it is a completely wrong judgment. If at all, I feel RR is the most balanced team currently. They have the right people for every job. Dravid/Rahane for a steady start at the top followed by Sanju/Watto in the middle for acceleration and Binny/Hodge at the bottom for crisis management/slogging/chasing. MI is easier to beat compared to RR. CSK is going to have a tough time.

@my comments, I don't understand your point. Trinidad and Tobago produced their players on home turf, dominated the domestic season year after year, played for the CLT20 and IPL, and THEN got selected by the WI team on the basis of their performances. We were a great team long before the WI started filling the WI team with Trinis. Are you trying to say that having bred great players at home, we had an unfair advantage because we played them here after they won the World Cup? And for all those questioning our presence--the Tallawahs will be representing the Caribbean in the next edition of the Champions League. T&T won the right to be here in February of this year. Under the new format of franchise teams in August, Trinidad's best players were sold off to every other team, leaving us with almost no team, hence our poor performance in the new franchise format. I take nothing away from the Jamaicans, but they never had to play us at anywhere near full strength.

The Trinidadians played awesomely. It's a team effort where every man held their strain and stuck to the task.Simmons is a classy player who is steadily proving his ability at the highest level,I hope the WI selectors will consider him in the up coming series.Sunil Narine will be an asset in any team, as he continues to be a nightmare to batmen. This competition has gained momentum and a thrilling result is expected.Best luck to the Trinis.

Can people please clearly distinguish between "Indian" and "IPL"

Indian refers to teams consisting of Indian-born players, whereas IPL refers to teams consisting of mercenaries who will play for whoever pays them the most at any given point in time.

I still can't get my head around players who play for 3 (or more) T20 teams. How can qualifying for a world event be special when you can have half a dozen chances to make the line-up? You could win the tournament with one team while beating another team you play for in the final. And another team you play for in the semi-final! All they need now is to let players play for other teams after they get eliminated and the same player could be knocked out of the tournament 3 or 4 times!!!

@just _ a _thought : you are absolutely correct .this is a potential game plan .RR are better to face than MI. Dhoni is a captain with lot of stupid calculations .....But,the problem is he pulls off each and every trick which actually is hard to understand except for him.LUCKY and Clever captain.

  • on October 3, 2013, 12:19 GMT

The loss of CSK against T&T is a blessing in disguise. IN case CSK was in top position in the table they would have had to meet MI in semifinals. One could have observed last few outing against MI CSK has been repeatedly loosing the matches. But present scenario they have to battle it out against RR which is also a very good side. However CSK has to come out of the skin to prepare to fight against RR who are formidable side in their fortress. Politely if we review these matches particularly the Indian teams have got some excellent matches. Unfortunately for Sun risers it turned out to be a disappointing.

  • on October 3, 2013, 10:16 GMT

CSK, MI and Royals are no doubt top teams and RR and CSK many say can lift the cup, But the problem is Trinidad and Tobago can create history and stun the opposition.....So please do watch out my Indian friends....

  • on October 3, 2013, 10:07 GMT

Cricket is a funny game but at the same time it is also a great mind game. Since CSK was the last one to play, after seeing Mumbai Indians qualified for the semis, it did come to my mind whether CSK may do something different to avoid facing MI in the semi-finals. As expected CSK played very poorly and lost the match to T&T with big margin to make T&T to lead the group which in turn will play MI in the semi-finals and CSK has to face RR however RR will be formidable in their home turf. I am not sure whether CSK gamble will work this time. The time will tell.

  • Modillo on October 3, 2013, 10:04 GMT

Although we have 4 strong teams in the semis, I'm not comfortable with this formula. The Indians and T&T, playing the last match, had a big advantage over the Volts and the Titans because they knew exactly what to do. And T&T was also lucky that CSK did not show much willingness because they already qualify. I am sure CSK would have played much better if they had to win that last match. So my suggestions: the last groupmatches should be played simultaneously and the semifinal matches should be decided by drawing lots.

  • my_comments on October 3, 2013, 9:14 GMT

@SandipManjrekar: how can you say that Imported players occasionally contribute to these IPL teams. CSK has Hussy and Bravo (top wicket taker of IPL 2013); MI has Malinga, Smith, Pollard; RR is having watto, Hodge - how many matches they have single handedly won. IND has good players but without these players those teams would not be AS successful as they are...

  • Just_a_Thought on October 3, 2013, 9:04 GMT

Am i the only one who thinks that it was a perfect game plan by CSK to avoid MI in the semis ?It would be far better to face RR than MI in the semis.

As CSK had chased 180+ score, made 200+ score against bowling attacks but failed to post 140+ in this match.

The score of 120 was chased down by T&T in 15 overs who never looked troubled by the CSK bowling. Remember the experts had said that the wicket would slow down and it would not easy to chase on this wicket.

    Your thoughts please.....

  • my_comments on October 3, 2013, 8:52 GMT

@SandipManjrekar: What I meant was, as some IND fan states Dhoni won this Dhoni won that, but it should be IND won this and that. My question is whether Dhoni can LEAD a Zim team for ICC trophy or lead KM or FW for a CLT20 trophy? not can these other teams afford him or not!

Obviously only IPL franchise (CSK/MI) can afford Dhoni. It will be interesting IF CSK releases him for the auction, imagine what would happen?

  • Krikey on October 3, 2013, 8:02 GMT

Oct 2: In keeping with the history of the day, CSK non-violently struggled with the bat to post a modest total, and politely showed the other cheek while bowling -- leaking runs from both ends.

  • my_comments on October 3, 2013, 7:48 GMT

@vipincn: Surly IND won the tri-series in WI, But they didn't thrash the other 2 teams. remember WI won a match against IND and SL won a match with 161 runs margin and IND won the final against SL by 1 wicket and that too came from the bat of Dhoni. so you cant say that IND thrashed WI and SL in that series.

  • SandipManjrekar on October 3, 2013, 7:31 GMT

    @my_comments

Dhoni is a stardom that only CSK has. KM or FW can't afford to pay daily perks to their teams. Further he doesn't need to implement your fantasy ideas.

@rajcan Nobody will agree on your flush ideas of reduced IPL. It is an IPL not SLPL which was cancelled in its second edition.

@-Otuwa- Jadeja is top bowler in ODIs where your players like mahela, dilli, Mathews looked overrated when playing against him. It is T20 now. Don't get overexcited.

@Ausie_the_Great Imported players occasionally shine in CLT20 but they look faint picture in their own backyards. Not to forget that local talents overpower them.

@JustIPL Nobody is making sports politics but you did in posturing bad view.

    @Harmony111 @Cpt.Meanster

IND or CSK can perform on any pitches as they won WC T20-CLT20 on SA soil & many world series on ENG/AUS soils. CSK had a bad night nothing else.

One has to accept defeat in graceful manner & should appreciate in dignified manner.

  • Thyagu5432 on October 3, 2013, 6:36 GMT

I think it is a fundamental problem with CSK. They either thrash the opponents or get thrashed by the opponents. IPL finals and this match are case in point. We used to have one Mr.Badrinath in the team who was considered a crisis man. Today he is missing big time and hence when the big guns fail the slide continues till 10 down. Considering this and the fact that RR haven't lost in Jaipur recently, it appears RR are favourites to reach the finals.

  • e-z-nah on October 3, 2013, 5:57 GMT

A Trinidadian in every semi-finalist team...how cool is that! Big Up T&T!!!

  • vipinchirackal on October 3, 2013, 5:38 GMT

in fact the best four teams entered in the semi final of ipl.now stop arguing telling that ipl teams have foreign players and others dont have.remember nobody has detained them and forced them to play for ipl teams.since cricket has more viewers in india they have money to attract those players.remember india won world cup and champions trophy without foreign players.they really thrashed west indies and sreelanka in the tri nation cup.

  • on October 3, 2013, 5:24 GMT

Well. the win of T&T is good for Chennai Super Kings as it is easy for Chennai Super King to beat Rajasthan Royals than Mumbai Indians. It will be a different game if T@T comes for the final. Nobody can worry ..it will be Chennai Super Kings the winner..

  • on October 3, 2013, 4:44 GMT

Hats of to T&T,It seems CSK lost its juice yesterday but all credit to the windies champs.I would have hoped Morris and faf to get a game instead of albe and bravo, jus to try the bench but won't happen anyway. But seriously being a morkel fan,he is under used pretty badly and when given a chance he is underplaying.its time that Morris comes to the fray who is a better bowler.it will strengthen the traditionally weak bowling which we have. But CSK will have to blame itself for playing in RR Fortress.but i would love T&T VS CSK finals.

  • anver777 on October 3, 2013, 4:41 GMT

A shocking !!!! but fully deserved win for T&T......... a good all round show by this hardworking "RED FORCE" without their star players !!!!!

  • JustIPL on October 3, 2013, 4:27 GMT

T&T in semis proves that all IPL teams are not simply the best in the world. A T20 team from lowly test ranking country can be better than them. RCB could not make despite having luxury of having half of their team from non indian players. If Aussies and SA players pull off from IPL then this tournament will become real champions league.Aussie outfits in the competition were mainly youngsters and good experience for them. T&T win helped indian sides avoid Titans as Windies are friends and Proteas are foes in india's sports politics.

  • my_comments on October 3, 2013, 4:22 GMT

@ Harmony111: For you it's all about Dhoni, Dhoni and Dhoni. Cricket is a team sport even though individual performance is essential it is the team that win the match. So all those Dhonis' achievement represent how good the Ind team or the IPL team that Dhoni is leading. Ask Dhoni to captain Zim team for all those ICC trophies or KM / FW for a CLT20.

@Cpt.Meanster on (October 2, 2013, 17:27 GMT): I agree that CSK is one powerful/good team. But if it is so good then they should be able to win in any pitch. It's just that CSK had a off day and TT played better than CSK in this match. That's it!

  • on October 3, 2013, 4:13 GMT

Umpiring in the T&T/CSK was bad specially C.Shanuddin. Both ICC and BCCI should review umpires performance before sending them to officiate matches. Two clear LBW's were not given. This can affect the outcome of a match. I would say if there is any doubt but these were plumb. Let's hope in the semis and final we get good proffessional umpires not inexperience ones.

  • INDSlider on October 3, 2013, 4:06 GMT

@Ahmad Bashir: You are quite right. Even in IPL teams, not the local boys, imported players from my Aus, SA, WI are performing best. Otherwise, these teams are nothing.

  • my_comments on October 3, 2013, 3:57 GMT

@Cpt.Meanster: The reason for TT to be successful is that they have 4 players (Ramdin, Narine, Rampoul, Badree) who contributed to the T20 WC win in 2012 for WI. The two Aus teams have no major Aus national players playing for them and for FW of Pak have only Misbah and Ajmal in their line-up. And the KM of SL does not have T20 impact players of SL. Added to that they even had Pollard, 2 Bravos, Cooper, Barath, Benn, F.Edward, KevinObrian, Ross Taylor, Mahela - so it is very interesting to see why TT couldn't win Caribbean PL 2013. And why is that Jamaica Tallawahs the winner of CPL 2013 not playing the CLT.

    @Cyril_Knight

IPL was launched way back in 2008 making concept clear being franchise cricket. It opened window for all international stars to participate in the tournament lasting for a month with honouring equal reimbursement. The franchise can attract many overseas but max. 4 of them will be figured at a time in a match giving local players enough opportunities. Many nations imitated the IPL concept and later on formed champion league mainly initiated by CSA, CA & BCCI. Every sportsperson whether in baseball, Football, Golf, Athletics getting money. Cricketers are being paid lately since 2008. Even after 6 seasons, you are muddled in whole concepts of premier league with presenting comments a lot on money, full squad, national sentiments etc & mixing these with each other. You need to come of these imaginations (fantasies). It presents fun for everyone making such comments more frequently on this issue.

Same is applicable to all of them who are raising same questions on this issue

One positive consequence of CSK's loss: they don't have to face MI in the semi's. MI has peaked just in time. CSK may find it relatively easier to face RR in the semis. (This is not a conspiracy theory; just a statement of an unintended , but possibly positive consequence of the loss. So, CSK fans, don't brood over the loss. It may be a blessing in disguise)

Just imagine T&T, with at least two of the prodigal sons back in thier fold: Dwayne Bravo & Keiron Pollard.

AS @Chunky Pande said,T&T may beat the rest of the WI team, easily.

Agree with @Rally_Windies, when he said, WI do produce excellent spinners, but the authorities are not keen to field them. they may still be under the illusion that WI should continue to project themselves as apace oriented team.

Delighted to see the resurgence of West Indies (I am an old Indian and an ardent fan of Indian team, and some of the IPL teams; yet no denying all the credit to T&T)

Leaving this crushing defeat behind CSK should think how to demolish and conquer the fortress Jaipur.Badrinath, morkel, jadeja,Holder should be dropped for Saha,Morris,Faf,Imtiaz.Being a Dhoni fan,it is hard to tolerate that he sticks with the same sides always. This IPL also,Sasha performed much better than badri, but he was dropped because badri used to perform well once.Morkel has never been consistent with ball and he needs hard labour to get back in his groove and hit long sixes which we used to be proud of.Jade a is out of form with bowl and bat and needs some time now.Morris is as tall as holder and he can bowl and bat m much better.Royals have a good batting and imtiaz has been a good performer with ball and bat. And praising TNT is simple who doesnt likes CSK. Losing the toss and winning the game is not an easy one. If CSK won the toss then result would ve been opposite. And someone mentioned they afraid of MI, it was laughable comment. Playing with old squad with few changes since 08 unlike other teams like MI where having 5 diff captains, 5 different coaches, 5 diferent sponsors and all.

  • Siva_Bala75 on October 3, 2013, 1:32 GMT

Simmons is a talent, looks selfless. His bowling will suit most indian pitches- he can chip in with 2-3 overs. I am sure he will be targeted in the coming big auction for IPL 7 to IPL 9.

  • indi_flat_track_bully on October 3, 2013, 1:23 GMT

@Cpt.Meanster.. The stars of this tournament have been the overseas players.

The team that should be playing the Champions League T20 is Jamaica Tallawahs .If you have the CPL then there winners should get first preference.

  • Nampally on October 3, 2013, 0:58 GMT

In worst display of batting, CSK fell like 9 Pins for 118 with only 3 guys reaching double figures. # of the batsmen were clean bowled & 3 suicidal Run Outs Only Raina came to play cricket. He batted & bowled well. The rest need to seriously question their attitude & lack lustre display. Strangely enough some of these guys are getting about $150,000 for this single match! It was simply a Royal thrashing that T & T handed out to CSK! Now the Semi's would be T & T Vs. MI & CSK vs. RR in Jaipur. RR has not lost a match on their home turf. So CSK made their task uphill. I am sure MI will not let T & T walk all over them. MI batting will get a competitive total so will RR. But I have not given up on CSK with likes of Dhoni & Raina.

  • D-Ascendant on October 3, 2013, 0:45 GMT

Once again "Sir" Ravindra Jadeja was laughed off the park. When was the last time someone with so little talent received so much (un-ironic) adulation?

  • on October 3, 2013, 0:42 GMT

It is totally unfair to T&T, give them all the credit they deserve they played good allround cricket. As the tournament goes on we are improving constantly and because this is the last time we will be preforming as T&T their is that extra drive to go all the way . If we should beat MI then we will win the tournament. Mark my words.

  • HolyShmoly on October 3, 2013, 0:03 GMT

@Rally_Windies, every dog has its day and today was yours. While I commend the performance and win, to gloat over it and call T&T players as the best in the world is nonsense. Everything went your way today, as simple as that - the ball that M Vijay got out, even a high school cricketer would have whacked it out of the park, it was his bad luck, he dragged it on. So was Simmons' other wicket and his batting as well. T&T is a good T20 team but to compare the players against world class international cricketers is cocky and arrogant. Wait a few days to be creamed by MI and I will be back to have my last laugh. Disclaimer: I am not a MI fan but can't wait to thump T&T.

    Completely agree with @Rally_Windies

poor Jadeja ...he is just another version of Ravi Shastri - over hyped journeyman. Swann is the only current Test Spinner who is good enough to play for T&T ..... Jadeja , Arshwin and Ohja are not good enough to make the T&T team.

  • on October 2, 2013, 22:08 GMT

Supremely proud of the TT lads. Why is it everytime a "goliath" of the sport is convincingly defeated, some cannot find the moral courage to acknowledge? I suppose if TT claims this title, which is quite possible, we will continue to hear these naysayers. Keep going Red Steel. You make all West Indians proud!

  • on October 2, 2013, 21:46 GMT

CSK were simply beaten by the better team, not beaten i'm sorry they were thrashed. Congrats to Trinidad and Tobago

  • on October 2, 2013, 21:46 GMT

Well Done T&T. We are clicking in all departments. Show the world that we can now win this Tournment. Those IPL Teams does not stand a chance aganist these West Indies Boyz

  • heartbreakerz on October 2, 2013, 21:45 GMT

Narine is just a limited overs bowler, he has been terrible in test cricket....I will always pick Ajmal or Swann over Narine as they perform in all formats of the game

  • Cyril_Knight on October 2, 2013, 20:31 GMT

Narine is obviously the key man. Figures-wise he appears to be by far the best T20 bowler in these conditions. He makes TNT competitive, but it's worth remembering that if KKR had qualified, TNT would not have had their trump card and would be going home.

Imagine how good TNT would be with their full squad playing...

  • on October 2, 2013, 19:59 GMT

What people don't know is the T&T team is stronger than the West Indies team.

  • krishay on October 2, 2013, 19:40 GMT

Well done T&T rich rewards for being consistent in this competition!! This team has Narine the #1 T20 bowler as well as Rampaul, Simmons, Ramdin, Badree (all part of the West Indies winning T20 Team) and we are seeing Lewis and Emrit emerging! Some are saying that CSK did not play to their true game but T&T did what they had to do! Congrats!!

  • Rally_Windies on October 2, 2013, 19:28 GMT

    poor Jadeja ...

I have said it before and I will say it again ...

People "say" WI does not produce good spinners.... But it is more accurate to say the WICB does not like to PLAY SPINNERS ...

Swann is the only current Test Spinner who is good enough to play for T&T .....

Jadeja , Arshwin and Ohja are not good enough to make the T&T team.

  • Twinkie on October 2, 2013, 19:25 GMT

Come on, guys! Any team can have a bad day, and any team can have a good day. It's not the first time that CSK has collapsed. T & T has a good bowling attack and when playing at their best they can beat anybody! Good luck to the Trinis from a Bajan old enough to remember a Barbadian team that took on the rest of the world!

  • on October 2, 2013, 19:24 GMT

Congrats to T&T Red force on their most impressive performance thus far. CSK was absolutely hammered, outplayed in every aspect of the game,as the Red force put in a controlling multi-bowling-batting-and fielding performance against a quality opponent in an unquestionably meaningful game.(So forget all the worthless conspiracy theory floating around). This was the type of performance we have been waiting for. A proof of concept that can propel the team to the Cup.

  • on October 2, 2013, 19:08 GMT

    @Ahmad Bashir

I can understand your frustrations but you confusing many into one. Either you are not aware about CLT20 or you are disgusted about non-IPL teams' underperformance including your own Faisalabad team. PAK, SL or NZL and even England (Except Test Team) are collapsed unit in Limited overs version. As a true sportsmanship, you must accept this reality and dominance of Indian reserve bench. The IPL teams have 7 local players plus 4 overseas which make much competitive unit and local players are benefited being played with top players. Now whatever you feel about dominance is the outcome 6 IPL seasons. IND have plenty of reserves to try out unlike yours that have Misbah who will be seen in 2020 also. All four semi-finalist teams have a quality to win championship. This is why T&T gets direct entry other than FW or KM who merely participated for filling numbers. Don't criticize champ league.

  • Cpt.Meanster on October 2, 2013, 18:42 GMT

@Conspiracy Theorists and IPL bashers: Let me make it clear to you guys. This is T20 cricket and that's why we have results like these. It also makes the format compelling to view because any team, IF they play well can win. T&T clearly outplayed CSK and deserved to win this game. CSK were complacent. MS Dhoni should NOT have played the 2 West Indians Dwayne Bravo and Jason Holder because that made it all too easy for the T&T guys to plan their attack. Faf Du Plessis and Chris Morris should have been in the line up. Anyway, speaking of credibility with Indian cricket, what makes you guys think that CSK would gain from losing to T&T ? It simply doesn't make sense. Do you think CSK love playing against RR at Jaipur ? Also, no matter how poorly Perth bowled, the way MI batted was truly remarkable. So please appreciate good cricket and detest such nonsense talk. The teams who won played fairly. Indian cricket remains ever so credible and strong. Let's move on.

  • Cpt.Meanster on October 2, 2013, 18:35 GMT

@Ahmad Bashir: Hahahahah ! Well too bad. The Aussie, Pakistani, and Sri Lankan teams were simply not good enough to remain in this tournament.

  • PRyan on October 2, 2013, 18:29 GMT

This defeat doesn't look good on CSK records at all. Is it that they are so afraid of MI? Well RR is going to thump them anyway. This win will boost T&T morale and they will go in on a high against MI and beat them. How would everyone like it when T&T reached the 17th over they just refused to go for the win and land themselves second place so that they face RR.? T&T going for a win showed they will take on any opponent. Go T&T, make us proud in the Caribbean!!

  • fr600 on October 2, 2013, 18:26 GMT

Otago deserved to be on the semis. Anyway, I hope T&T wins the CL. My best wishes are with them.

  • mngc1 on October 2, 2013, 18:18 GMT

3 IPL teams but T&T represented in all 4 teams. Pollard in Mumbai, Dwayne Bravo in CSK and Cooper in Royals plus a full contingent in Red Force.

Many thanks to RP Singh who bowled the no ball off the penultimate ball to result in RCB loss and getting knocked out. This gave T&T the services of Rampaul.

  • on October 2, 2013, 18:17 GMT

I really don't mind going into the Semis as the underdog. GO TRINIDAD AND TOBAGO!!!!! We are capable of anything.

  • ladycricfan on October 2, 2013, 18:06 GMT

CSK looked like there were not sure who will be the better opposition in the semi, RR or MI. They played like they were just going through the motions, come what may. Now they have to play RR in their home ground. T&T spinners bowled well today. Jadeja has been expensive lately.

  • on October 2, 2013, 17:53 GMT

Its not champions league it is indian league trying to satisfy their dominance ! Is it justified by any means tht out of total 10 teams in group stages plus 2 eliminated in qualifiers indian represntation is by 4 teams , and no wonder tht today in the semifinal lineup out of 4 there are three indian teams. ilogikl is the point tht pak sirilnka have no presntation n wen they do its 1 team tht too in qualifiers. Same fr newzlnd

  • Cpt.Meanster on October 2, 2013, 17:53 GMT

@Iain Lax: As much as CSK are a good team, I thought they were outplayed by T&T today. Why can't some of the people here accept that and move on ? CSK should be glad their off-day came now instead of in the semis. This Delhi pitch is a DISGRACE to cricket. Can't believe some of India's most illustrious batsmen come from this state. Sehwag, Kohli, Dhawan, Unmukt Chand etc. are all from Delhi and boy they would have scored all of their runs outside of Delhi because this substandard pitch is an embarrassment. T&T will be happy because this pitch isn't much different to their Port of Spain Queen's Park Oval surface. Slow, low, dead and gripping with nothing in it for the batsmen. So they will be confident to face the MI at this venue but it won't be easy for them. CSK now have to breach the fortress in Jaipur against an in form, red hot Royals. Won't be easy for the men in yellow either. So 2 classic contests coming up - 3 IPL teams with 1 outsider remaining.

  • on October 2, 2013, 17:51 GMT

Bring in Faf for Albie for the next match. He is a useful spinner also. Saha for Badri . And Sir? Has to be replaced by someone else. To beat RR at their FORT these changes should be made. Kashinath

  • rsgarcia on October 2, 2013, 17:47 GMT

This is T20 cricket. Anyone can beat anyone else at any time. There were no weak teams in this tournament, just underperforming ones. CSK came up against a team that were in their element and confident. Perhaps they relaxed knowing they were safe--who knows. But one thing is sure--CSK did not try to lose this. T&T went out and won it. If we'd lost to CSK, I would have said we deserved to go home because we don't have what it takes to play with the big boys. But without 3 of our star players, and against them even, we made it to the semis. I would love if CSK supporters respected that the way the Trini team and fans have respected everyone else, but apparently that's too much to ask. I guess we'll just have to go beat MI as well. And if we make it to the finals, I can't wait to hear the excuses then.

  • Harmony111 on October 2, 2013, 17:38 GMT

@Akshat Agrawal: To each his own. Dhoni has his own mind and being the captain has the right to decide his game plan. Remember that India are World Champions + Champions Trophy Winners + World #1 in ODIs + his IPL team is the most successful one in IPL + his IPL team has also won the CLT20. With this kind of success I'd say we are lesser mortals who probably don't have the ability to see what he sees. He is on a higher plane than us.

  • Falew on October 2, 2013, 17:38 GMT

Not sure what Jadeja is doing here,His contribution is CL 2013---Batting-runs:3,avg:1.50,SR:37----Bowling-overs:10,runs:119,eco:11.9------ I said this before as well,And i am repeating,Jadeja is the most overrated cricketer in recent past,He is neither bowler nor batsman. :(

  • on October 2, 2013, 17:35 GMT

The mighty Brian Lara is there being a huge influence on these young players and it is showing with their performances. All three of the other teams has a heavy dependence on the West Indian players, so it should surprise no one that TNT has done so well. West Indies are the World Champs people. The world Champs has to have quality players.

CSK won't be able to beat RR. Looks like the final is going to be RR vs MI. One more thing, I clearly remember that cricinfo was showing CLT20 semi final schedule like this- RR vs TBA CSK vs MI Now the joke is on cricinfo as well. These conditions suited the T&T team more because it was similar to Port of Spain. I would also like to take this opportunity to blame the POOR Delhi pitch. It seems they have NOT learned anything from the past. A bad pitch for a T20 game and this venue is to be used for another semi final and the final. I hope the BCCI NEVER use this pitch for limited overs cricket. Well T&T but it won't be easy for you in the knock outs.

Really shocking to see CSK field the same XI.Dhoni for some reason, doesnt like to test his bench strength and loves to field the same XI.It really can be frustating for the player and if a player of the 1st choice eleven gets injured, the backup has no games under his belt and can be under some pressure.Dhoni also did this in the India v Eng. series earlier this year.In the last ODI,India had already won the series by then . Cheteshwar Pujara was in the squad and could have debuted. But Dhoni struck to the same XI.India ended up missing Pujara the most in that game.Under seaming conditions in Dharamshala,India were found wanting. For this match , Imtiaz , Saha and especially Faf should have came in for M.Sharma,S.Badrinath and M.Hussey respectively. This one should be a cracker of a game though.Looking forward to it.....
