Champions League Twenty20 - 2nd match, Qualifying Group

Kandurata Maroons v Sunrisers Hyderabad

Sunrisers Hyderabad won by 8 wickets (with 9 balls remaining)

8.00pm Shikhar Dhawan leads Hyderabad out on the field, and gets them in for a huddle. The Kandurata openers follow soon after. The openers will be Upul Tharanga and Shehan Jayasuriya. Dale Steyn will kick off proceedings from the City End

Donepudi: "Everyone busy talking about Sanga and no one talking about Amit Mishra.. Most wicket takers for SRH and also recent ZIM series."

Dinakar: "SRH should have played White as he was in superb form in FL T20 helping Northants in winning the title."

Manthan Varangaonkar: "What ??? Its Sri Lanka vs Sunrisers Hyderabad.. this is unfair..."

Anurag: "Why isn't White playing? He was in great form during the FLT20. Plus it was better to play rather than having two all rounders in Sammy and Perera!"

Jack: "Bond, James Bond is simple, look at this Dampalage Shehan Naveendra Fonseka Gunawardene Jayasuriya,"

7.50pm Less than ten minutes away from the start. Should be a good one. Who do you think will come out on top tonight?

Sudhindra Nekkanti: "Would love to see Dale Steyn have a go at the Maroons on a lively surface!! Should be fun."

Afzal: "Sanga will give few tactics of SRH to Kandurata ... and Thisara will give some tactics about SL cricket to SRH.. :D"

Tushar: "I feel embarrassed when i say this but i have a feeling, today Parthiv holds the key for SRH... I need to see a doctor!!!"

Vjbas: "Again boring IND VS SL match... oops it is CL20... do this SL international players have a chance to win in india ..."

MURAD ALI BAIG: "@Prabuddha - No wonder, yes. agreed with you. if they play with their potential they can win today, on paper Kandurata Maroons looks more experience than SRH."

Asif khan: "May be SriLankan board are takng Clt20 as world T20,as they sent international players like world cup"

Manoj: "Smart decision by Kandurata Maroons to have 5 left handers in their top 6 to encounter the leggies Mishra and Sharma. Duminy will likely bowl his offies."

Daniel Alexander: "@ Srinu - Sangakkara was out of form during the IPL and in red hot form these days, SRH will miss him."

Prabuddha: "Am I the only person who thinks Kandurata has a chance today?? or may be others are not aware of the unpredictable cricket played by Sri Lanka.. especially in subcontinent.. Don't be surprised to see a Kanduarata win tonight. Remember that I told you!!"

Krishna: "In IPL6, Sangakkara is on bench almost all matches....now two teams are after him..... how life changes in a matter of few months..."

Some notable news as the Bear (Cameron White) will not be playing for Sunrisers today.

Srinu: "SRH is not going to miss Sanga SRH has enough star players and bench strength to fight n win against Kandurata"

aleem: "11 out of the 15 in the kundarata have represented sri lanka at the international level"

7.35pm Tom Moody, the Sunrisers Hyderabad coach, in a small interview with Jatin Sapru, reveals the decision behind giving Dhawan the captaincy: Dhawan has been involved with Hyderabad/Deccan for three seasons, and has experience leading Delhi. The reason as to why they waited till just before the Champions League to announce this is because they wanted Dhawan in attendance at the camp. Moody had an eye on the future of the franchise, and saw Dhawan as someone who would remain long-term and help take the team forward.

James: "Just read the "5 to watch" piece: very useful. I see Shehan Jayasuriya is an aggressive left handed opening bat, who bowls some useful spin. Any other S Jayasuriyas that reminds you of? No?"

BM: "@Siva - Are you kidding? Sanga never performed well when playing for SRH."

7.30pm Sunrisers Hyderabad have won the toss and have elected to field.

Dhawan sees some dew on the pitch, and thinks batting will get easier later on. Feels positive about his first game as captain, and looks forward to getting out in the middle.

Thirimanne, who is wearing a maroon outfit, would have bowled first as well, but believes the pitch is true. He takes solace from the team's successful Super 4's tournament and hopes it will hold them in good stead tonight.

Kashif Naseer: "It seems like the whole srilankan team is playing in the Kandurata Maroons side, Just Jayawardene , Dilshan and Malinga missing maybe ?"

James: "So, Bish says bowl first, Doull says it doesn't matter and Manjrekar says bat first. Always good to have experts!"

Anshul Goel: "Just wondering, if Kandurata doesnt make it to group stage & SRH does, will Sangakkara be allowed to play for SRH?" Unfortunately Anshul this will not be allowed as there are quite a few players who would slot in that category, and would create some mayhem

Siva: "Its time to test capabilities of SRH Middle order with out Sanga. Hope key players will do best like Dawan, Duminy, Sammy, Perara"

Martin Jose: "I believe Sunrisers won't miss Sanga that badly as the medias over cast..They even haven't required him in half of the IPL matches..Also,his records for SRH is poor too."

7.25pm With every major tournament, there are a number of greenhorns who look to make a name for themselves on the grand stage. Anuj Vignesh picks his five who he thinks will shine this edition.

7.20pm Ian Bishop doing a pitch report here, and says that there is not much dew on the surface and that batting should get easier through the night, so it would be in the best interests of the team who wins the toss to look to chase.

Simon Doull reckons the pitch will play similarly to the first game on the same surface, and that the dew should be a non-factor. Sanjay Manjrekar theorises that batting first is the way to go, irrespective of the conditions.

7.15pm Many of you may be wondering just how the four teams who are vying for qualification got this far? Our very own Vishal Dikshit sheds some light on the respective journey each of these teams took, and what attributes make them contenders for progression into the group stage.

James: "Kandurata appears to have half the SL one day team in their squad, so should be pretty powerful. Key is likely to be the SRH opening bowlers, though."

Daniel Alexander: "Sanga v Steyn :D Sri Lanka is watching."

Tarun: "For a moment I thought Kandurata sent more than 15 men. They have long names, I realized!"

7.10pm So what is there to look forward to in this edition? How about the fact that this will be the last time both Sachin Tendulkar and Rahul Dravid feature in a limited-overs tournament, or Misbah's chance at redemption in a format he has been long ignored by the PCB. These all can be found in our 'Five things to watch out for this Champions League.'

Are you wondering just who Kandurata Maroons are? or need a refresher on the current situation of Sunrisers Hyderabad? Then, look no further than the preview for today's encounter. There will be added intrigue as Kumar Sangakkara faces off against his IPL franchise, a decision he was forced to make in part by SLC.

7.00pm Hello and welcome to ESPNcricinfo's live ball-by-ball coverage of the second qualifying match between Sunrisers Hyderabad and Kandurata Maroons. The first qualifier is done and dusted, with Otago Volts completing a resounding eight-wicket victory over Faisalabad Wolves, thanks largely to Brendon McCullum's exploits with the bat.

Wonder if Sunrisers are ruing the fact that Sanga chose Kandu?

19.6

Perera to Sangakkara, 2 runs, full toss and Kumar hammers this to deep midwicket. He is able to return for the second, even though he looked all at sea with the incoming throw, but just beats the keeper to the crease.

So with that Kandurata Maroons finish their innings on a healthy 168 for 3. Steyn's wayward opening bust set the tone for them, with Tharanga looking in good nick. But in the end, the partnership between Thirimanne and Sangakkara may have just won this game for Kandurata. Steyn went for 35 in his four, while Ishant bowled with a lot of conviction. This will be a tough ask for Sunrisers as they prepare for their turn to bat. Join us in about 10-15 minutes for more action from Mohali!
