Champions League Twenty20 - 20th match, Group B

Chennai Super Kings v Trinidad & Tobago

Trinidad & Tobago won by 8 wickets (with 29 balls remaining)

Firnaz : "Mohawk guys...Dhoni vs Narine, a contest to watch!"

7.55pm Only a handful of minutes left till the first ball, Will T&T look to start with spin again? Out come the players, Mike Hussey and M Vijay touch gloves and I was right, Samuel Badree with the new ball. No slips though

Vasu: "Is CSK playing Vijay for his name or for his game ?" He seemed to display some sort of form last game

Raul: "T&T are a team which make 9 out of 10 match interesting even though their main players like bravo, pollard and other have been representing the IPL or other team. This has been the trend since they entered CLT20. I am CSK fan but would like T&T to win today."

Roger S: "Big error in dropping Jason Mohammed for the offie...while Mohammed wasn't piling the runs on, he was helping to stabilize the middle order in times of duress. I would've preferred young Pooran sitting for the more experienced Barath...anyways, go TT Red Force! Represent the Caribbean proudly!"

Shaul: "Absolute pity to see Morris and Du Plesis benched so far. Would prefer to see them helping out their respective franchise take on CSK or at least help the titans get through to the semis."

And with a bit of tongue in cheek (I think), here's Jatin: "So its Srini boys vs the Trini boys...exciting contest"

praVeen faujdar: "and its fun to watch the contest between Raina and Narine.... Raina is ahead though..."

Prathab Kumar: "Narine Vs Dhoni (obviously)...!!! Best bowler and batsman of the tournament..!!!!"

Raj: "@ Hims: How about Badree vs Badri??"

And the talk shifts to contests now and predictably, Hims: "Bravo vs Bravo..would love to see a contest while Big Bravo bowling to lil Bravo" Any other showdowns to watch out for, you guys?

arun: "seems- ahmedabad played big role.. volts VS MI - MI advanced on RR, lions vs scorchers- Scochers at bttom of table.. this may changed if the match happened. also in group A- they outsed SHR and put titans place in doubt"

Prathab Kumar: "Think of Perth with Hussey with them...!!! That would have been a good competition..!!!"

Arjun: "To be honest, Australian teams were without some of their biggest players who played a major role in the BBL."

Raj: "@Amod: Am not sure how you can say its an Aussie team decline as most of their star players are playing for an IPL franchise... Moreover only the IPL franchise have the luxury of 4 international players in their team..."

A little closer to home here's, Sid: "I dont know if anyone else has noted this. I have never seen M.Vijay not getting out to Ravi Rampaul whenever he has faced him. Lets see what answers Vijay has for Rampaul today."

Straying from today's game, here is a little sympathy for the Trans-Tasman rivals. Amod: "Australian cricket's decline is further emphasised in CL20. 2 teams from Down Under, both winless and languish at bottom of table."

Sathish: "I really feel sorry for Otago. They played 7 matches and lost only one. Could not qualify for Semis."

7.30pm Trinidad and Tobago have won the toss and will field Denesh Ramdin, the captain, says they don't have too many power hitters and would like to restrict Super Kings. Allrounder Yannick Ottley comes into the XI in place of Jason Mohammed. Ramdin admitted they haven't played a perfect game and that bowling needs improvement. While being reasonably happy with the batting, he hoped this might be that perfect game.

MS Dhoni will field an unchanged side and said this was one of those games they did not have a concrete idea of what to do had they won the toss because of the slowness of the pitch. He wasn't too perturbed batting first and added while playing franchise cricket, you try and bring confidence from the last game and work on the mistakes, but more than that just keep things simple.

OMPRAKASH KHOJA: "MI is not a norh indian team......m i ri8 ...??? but we can call west(west_cost) indian ..." Fair enough, I never enjoyed semantics

Lots of people putting on the selectors cap for Chennai. This is Anurag. "CSK should look to experiment in the fast bowling department. That is where they haven't been up to the mark. Bring in the exciting Imtiaz Ahmed!"

Ian Bishop, at the pitch report, is stumped over what to do after winning the toss. He says the pitch is very dry and the cracks are apparent. He saw some low bounce in the first game and warns scoring could be difficult if the fast bowlers hit back of a length and maintain a wicket-to-wicket line. Some turn might also be in the offing, but having said all that, he adds the boundaries are very small and the pitch isn't a bad one. A pitch for everyone then?

Jegs: "Chennai is already qualified for Semis. At least they can give rest to Hussey and Holder and give chances to Du Plesis and Morris. I am eagerly waiting to see Du Plesis batting for a long time :(" Qualified, yes, but should Chennai lose by a big margin, they will have to face Royals in their Jaipur fortress

However, there is a significant sub-plot in this. If T&T do not win or limit the margin of defeat to a minuscule one, South Africa's Titans will punch their tickets to face Rajasthan Royals in Jaipur. Confused? Yes, me too. Which is exactly why Vishal Dishit has spelled it out for us in his preview

"If T&T qualify for semi's then ..all team are indian in knockouts......one of them is south indian, one is north indian and one is west indian...." I assume you mean two North Indian ones, Omprakash Khoja, considering Mumbai Indians join Rajasthan Royals in the semi-finals.

7.15pm Welcome to ESPNcricinfo's live ball-by-ball coverage of the final league game of the CLT20. So one last spot is left to make up the final four in this year's tournament and fan favourites Trinidad and Tobago look to take up the challenge as they face off against Chennai Super Kings, who have already qualified for the semis.

0.1

Badree to Hussey, 1 run, flatter, and little turn, it is a new ball after all, and Hussey stays on his back foot and nudges it through midwicket to get off the mark straight away

0.2

Badree to Vijay, no run, okay, that was the other one and it was pitched very very short. Vijay was set to cut it to oblivion but had to adjust and push it back to the bowler

0.3

Badree to Vijay, no run, very little air again and this one is negotiated with an open face into the covers

0.4

Badree to Vijay, no run, that was the flipper and Vijay put his bat down just in time as the ball skidded onto him

0.5

Badree to Vijay, no run, quicker and on target again but Vijay who goes back manages to keep it out

0.6

Badree to Vijay, 1 run, just a little off line from Badree and Vijay works it wide of mid-on for a single

End of over 1 (2 runs) Chennai Super Kings 2/0 (RR: 2.00)
M Vijay    1* (5b)      S Badree    1-0-2-0
MEK Hussey    1* (1b)

Rampaul from the other end

1.1

Rampaul to Vijay, no run, elegantly driven to the cover field as he warms up with a back of a lenght ball outside off

1.2

Rampaul to Vijay, FOUR, played away from the body, but his timing saves him. This was outside off and Vijay steers it with an open face past point

1.3

Rampaul to Vijay, 1 run, quick single, and that was a close call. He dabs the good length ball to mid-on where Evin Lewis rushes forward and overarms it, but misses

1.4

Rampaul to Hussey, OUT, the off stump cartwheels! That jagged back in and Rampaul punches the air in delight. The in-form man is gone. It was on a length and Hussey was looking to dab it to third man, but the movement beat him neck and crop

MEK Hussey b Rampaul 1 (5m 2b 0x4 0x6) SR: 50.00

mnv anil: "CSK should stop picking Vijay ..nobody is interested in picking him for fantasy team :p"

Suresh Raina takes guard. Slip in place

1.5

Rampaul to Raina, no run, oh and he hits his straps straight away. Full length ball on off finds a tentative Raina stuck on the crease and presenting a straight bat

1.6

Rampaul to Raina, 1 run, but this was confidently negotiated. Gets on his toes and flicks this back of a length ball off his hips to get his first runs in the game

prabal: "If Vijay goes cheaply tonight, then he is surely on the path to score a century in the Final of CLT20, of course, given that CSK reach there."

End of over 2 (6 runs) Chennai Super Kings 8/1 (RR: 4.00)
SK Raina    1* (2b)      R Rampaul    1-0-6-1
M Vijay    6* (8b 1x4)      S Badree    1-0-2-0

Badree to continue, stll no slips

2.1

Badree to Raina, no run, he comes forward and blocks the full ball back to the bowler

2.2

Badree to Raina, 1 run, a little shorter and Raina uses the length well to clip it to deep midwicket off the back foot

2.3

Badree to Vijay, no run, oh, first signs of flight from Badree. Vijay comes right forward and defends very well

2.4

Badree to Vijay, no run, slower again, seems he is placing faith in his leg breaks against the right-hander who drives it to mid-on

2.5

Badree to Vijay, 2 runs, goes back to his staple quicker ball which Vijay easily flicks off to deep square leg

2.6

Badree to Vijay, FOUR, and he pays the price for his shortish length. Vijay goes back, quite fluidly, and just taps this wide of the man at mid-off and watches as the ball goes off to the boundary

Ian: "I don't care if every member of the Chennai side can bat, if the other side gets Hussey early, they'll always be in trouble."

End of over 3 (7 runs) Chennai Super Kings 15/1 (RR: 5.00)
M Vijay    12* (12b 2x4)      S Badree    2-0-9-0
SK Raina    2* (4b)      R Rampaul    1-0-6-1

3.1

Rampaul to Raina, 2 runs, well placed by Raina. Negotiates a short of a length ball on his hips behind square and collects the double on offer

3.2

Rampaul to Raina, 1 run, a little seam away, but nothing too troubling this time as Raina guides it to the man at point and takes off. The ball was hit soft enough to let him complete the single, even though he was on the back foot. The bat was bouncing up in the air as he dove. Could have been trouble

3.3

Rampaul to Vijay, 1 run, good length ball on off stump, but it is well driven, if on the up, to mid-off and Vijay calls early for the single

Oh ho ho, Suresh Raina's favourtie player is MS Dhoni

3.4

Rampaul to Raina, 2 runs, third man comes into business again as Rampaul targets a good length outside off. Raina goes back to employ the open face

3.5

Rampaul to Raina, 2 runs, and Emrit has to earn his money again. He let this shortish ball on off come to him and steers it square of third man

3.6

Rampaul to Raina, 1 wide, bouncer, but its a wide. Good reply from the quick, but just a little off line. It came up around head-high and Raina who was looking to hook, doesnt get anything on it

3.6

Rampaul to Raina, 1 run, this time he punches the good length ball on the stumps to mid-off and calls for the single

Khalid Masood Javed: "Don't count Vijay out..Today is his day to shun the critics."

End of over 4 (10 runs) Chennai Super Kings 25/1 (RR: 6.25)
SK Raina    10* (9b)      R Rampaul    2-0-16-1
M Vijay    13* (13b 2x4)      S Badree    2-0-9-0

4.1

Badree to Raina, FOUR, lovely. Raina's open face at play again. Tossed up from Badree and he comes forward strongly and drives it through the off side field. All along the ground

4.2

Badree to Raina, 1 run, oh, dear, that stayed low. It was right on the stumps as well, but Raina, who was also on the back foot, just manages to escape

4.3

Badree to Vijay, no run, loud appeal. Badree is pulling out all his tricks here. This seems to be very close. Vijay has not picked it as he was defending for the turn. He was struck in line and that seemed to head for the stumps, but the Umpire shakes his head

4.4

Badree to Vijay, 1 run, and he gets off strike immediately. A checked drive to mid-off to the good length ball on off

Gutted!! Well thats sport and life hey! So close yet so far!!! Proud of the boys and @OtagoVolts ! Now to some red ball cricket!

4.5

Badree to Raina, 1 run, on the pads and Raina has no trouble going back and clipping it to midwicket

4.6

Badree to Vijay, FOUR, and this clip is behind square, but it is wide of the man at fine leg and Vijay collects some much needed momentum to put that lbw shout behind him

End of over 5 (11 runs) Chennai Super Kings 36/1 (RR: 7.20)
M Vijay    18* (16b 3x4)      S Badree    3-0-20-0
SK Raina    16* (12b 1x4)      R Rampaul    2-0-16-1

Left-arm tweaker Yannick Ottley will bowl the final over of Powerplay

5.1

Ottley to Raina, 1 run, gives a little air and Raina steps forward to push it down to long on

Vishal Sheokand: "Considering the low bounce and turn of the pitch, 140 should be a challenging total. So CSK are doing pretty well."

5.2

Ottley to Vijay, FOUR, driven on the up with very little concern for the turn. He gets legside of the ball and simply times this one through extra cover. Looked very good there

5.3

Ottley to Vijay, 1 run, this time he pushes the fullish ball on the stumps to long-off to rotate the strike

5.4

Ottley to Raina, no run, Raina does the same, but he has a mid-off in place so no chance of a single there

5.5

Ottley to Raina, SIX, Yannick taking some punishment here. Raina chips down the track, reaches the pitch of the ball and lofts it straight over the bowler's head to record the first six of the game

5.6

Ottley to Raina, 1 leg bye, oh, he's missed out and he knows it as he throws his head back. It was flatter and angled down leg. The dab sweep he was looking to play doesn't come off the bat as the ball runs off his pads

End of over 6 (13 runs) Chennai Super Kings 49/1 (RR: 8.16)
SK Raina    23* (16b 1x4 1x6)      KYG Ottley    1-0-12-0
M Vijay    23* (18b 4x4)      S Badree    3-0-20-0

6.1

Badree to Raina, 1 run, fifty for CSK as Raina pushes the full, flighted ball into the covers

Anekant: "The elegance with which Vijay plays his strokes, he could almost have been a left-hander."

6.2

Badree to Vijay, no run, fuller length again and his drive finds the man at cover

6.3

Badree to Vijay, 1 run, shortish again and Vijay turns it to midwicket off the back foot

6.4

Badree to Raina, 1 run, has his weight on the back foot as he short-arm punches this flat, delivery on the stumps to long-on

6.5

Badree to Vijay, 1 run, Vijay gets the odd flighted delivery and since it was angled on the pads, he moves forward and exploits the vacant square leg region

6.6

Badree to Raina, 1 leg bye, shout for leg before again. This was on a good length and turning into the batsman, who was playing around his front pad, wanting to nudge it through midwicket. But he is rapped on the pads, only the ball was going down

End of over 7 (5 runs) Chennai Super Kings 54/1 (RR: 7.71)
SK Raina    25* (19b 1x4 1x6)      S Badree    4-0-24-0

Emrit from round the wicket

7.1

Emrit to Raina, no run, and he beat's the outside edge to start. Lovely line and length, even if he was aided by Raina offering only half his bat as he looked to run it down third man

7.2

Emrit to Raina, 1 run, he succeeds this time, because it was wider of off stump and a little shorter too.

Bilal Farooq: "That FOUR by Suresh off Badree was his first in this innings and still he had a S/R of over 125. Goes to show how many scoring shots he plays (less dots)"

7.3

Emrit to Vijay, 1 run, angles it into Vijay, who keeps his front foot carefully outside the line of his turn to midwicket

Venkat: "@Anekant, the elegance at which Vijay gets clean bowled most of the times, doesn't inspire the selectors, that's the problem."

7.4

Emrit to Raina, FOUR, flayed over cover. That's a bread and butter shot for Raina, he saw it full and outside off stump and with all that room, Raina unveils a full swing and sends the ball scurrying away

7.5

Emrit to Raina, 1 run, brings the length back and Raina is happy to push it down the ground and get off strike

7.6

Emrit to Vijay, 1 run, a tiny bit of inward movement, but Vijay uses it as he turns the god length ball on middle to deep square leg

Lokesh: "will be intersting to see how Raina tackles narine!!will he go after him too??or narine will have the last laugh!!"

End of over 8 (8 runs) Chennai Super Kings 62/1 (RR: 7.75)

Its Lendl Simmons' turn to bowl, keeper standing up

8.1

Simmons to Vijay, OUT, he drags on! Vijay has to depart after being set. This was the very definition of a warm-up delivery. Slowish, wide outside off stump and only just a little way shorter than being a half-volley. Vijay looked to smash it through the covers but the inside edge is all he manages and then its timber!

M Vijay b Simmons 27 (32m 24b 4x4 0x6) SR: 112.50

Here's a little surprise, MSD is in

8.2

Simmons to Dhoni, no run, and he guides a full length ball on off stump to point off his front foot

8.3

Simmons to Dhoni, 1 run, that looked like he bowled it off the back of his hand. Dhoni waited for it and works it with those strong wrists of his through to the man at sweeper cover

Sudharshan: "Anyone remember Raina vs Narine IPL 2012 final ?"

8.4

Simmons to Raina, no run, good lines from Simmons as Raina has to come forward and drive this full length ball a shade outside off to the man on the thirty yard circle in the covers

8.5

Simmons to Raina, 1 wide, he shouldn't bowl there. It was a length ball, but well wide of leg stump. The keeper does well collecting it considering he was up

8.5

Simmons to Raina, 1 run, the full ball outside off is driven calmly down the ground

8.6

Simmons to Dhoni, 1 run, his medium pace means the batsman has to do all the work, but Dhoni is happy to turn this around to square leg and retain strike

cynic: "Ah! the elegance with which Vijay got that inside edge! so orgasmic"

End of over 9 (4 runs) Chennai Super Kings 66/2 (RR: 7.33)
MS Dhoni    2* (3b)      LMP Simmons    1-0-4-1
SK Raina    32* (25b 2x4 1x6)      RR Emrit    1-0-8-0

Dhoni has done away with his helmet as Narine comes into the attack. Slip in. Warning signs?

9.1

Narine to Dhoni, 1 run, and he puts a little air into it as Dhoni reaches out and pushes it through cover

9.2

Narine to Raina, 1 run, just a little off line to Raina with the off break as he tucks off his hips behind square on the leg side

9.3

Narine to Dhoni, FOUR, that has run away to the boundary and all he did was open the face of the bat. Its pretty much like the six he struck over point off Thisara, only this was a yorker outside off, but Dhoni digs it out pas the diving short third man

9.4

Narine to Dhoni, no run, shortish again and Dhoni pulls out a back foot punch, but finds extra cover in the way

9.5

Narine to Dhoni, no run, oh, inside edge as Narine turns it into the batsman. Dhoni was looking to pull, but badly mistimes it

9.6

Narine to Dhoni, no run, straight bat comes to the rescue as this one, pulled just a litlte back, is steered to point

End of over 10 (6 runs) Chennai Super Kings 72/2 (RR: 7.20)
MS Dhoni    7* (8b 1x4)      SP Narine    1-0-6-0
SK Raina    33* (26b 2x4 1x6)      LMP Simmons    1-0-4-1

10.1

Simmons to Raina, 1 run, leg stump yorker, and Raina has to pull his back foot out of the way as he jams his bat down and takes a single as it goes off behind square on the leg side

Anekant: "Dhoni fighting Fire with Fire .. err .. Mohawk with Mohawk !"

10.2

Simmons to Dhoni, no run, yorker outside off and Dhoni opens the face to bring point into play

10.3

Simmons to Dhoni, no run, play and miss, bit if he had hit that would have gone out of Delhi. It was a length ball and Simmons should consider himself lucky

10.4

Simmons to Dhoni, 1 run, more conventional cricket as he gets behind the line of that ball and punches it through cover

10.5

Simmons to Raina, FOUR, and he forces that through the leg side. Simmons' pace is no threat as he goes for a cross batted hoick. But his wrists roll the ball down into the ground as it picks up pace on its way to the boundary

10.6

Simmons to Raina, OUT, what a sorry way to lose your wicket. Caught at short fine leg with a ball that was full and well wide of leg stump. Sweep shot doesnt suit Raina that time

Ottley to continue

11.1

Ottley to Dhoni, 1 run, gets a little turn, but the ball was pitched short and Dhoni saw it early and cuts it to sweeper cover

DJ Bravo is the new man in

11.2

Ottley to Bravo, 1 run, and he pulls out his trademark inside out shot over cover ot the good length ball outside off, but T&T have cover in the deep

11.3

Ottley to Dhoni, 1 run, fuller length as Dhoni gets forward and drives it down the ground

11.4

Ottley to Bravo, 1 run, shortish and with a little room as Bravo goes back and cuts it through point

11.5

Ottley to Dhoni, 1 run, tossed up, but nothing too dangerous as Dhoni reaches the pitch of it as he gets forward and pushes to long off

11.6

Ottley to Bravo, no run, that kept low, but Bravo has quick hands as he keeps it out, flicking it to midwicket

James: "Lendl Simmons has bowled pretty well in this tournament, but he's barely scored a run."

12.1

Emrit to Dhoni, 1 run, short of length ball angling in towards off stump, slapped in front of point

12.2

Emrit to Bravo, OUT, another wicket for T&T, Dwayne Bravo walks, he seemed to have nicked that one outside off to the keeper, the umpire didn't think so, but everyone else on the were sure he did, he was looking to drive that through off, 84 for 4 now

Narine to Jadeja, 1 run, spinning away after pitching just outside off, driven towards long-on

13.4

Narine to Dhoni, OUT, short of length ball spinning in, dropped towards midwicket for a quick single, a direct hit catches Jadeja short, crazy running from Jadeja there, running diagonally across the pitch as he reaches the crease, might have made it if he ran straight on, he's not having the best of tournaments here, the fielder was Ottley

Rampaul is back into the attack

Don: "Why in the world did Jadeja run diagonally, was he trying to be courteous, if so maybe a little too courteous."

14.1

Rampaul to Dhoni, 2 runs, call for two and makes it quite easily, even if he had to duck to evade the oncoming throw from the sweeper. Short and outside off, and its thumped through cover

14.2

Rampaul to Dhoni, 1 run, slower ball to respond, as Dhoni works it away to deep midwicket

bala: "Looks like CSK don't want to face the MI."

14.3

Rampaul to Morkel, no run, shortish again to the new man Albie Morkel, tying him up as he has to put out his from-the-crease defence

14.4

Rampaul to Morkel, no run, angled across the left-hander, and Morkel hangs his bat out there, perhaps hoping to get off the mark with a steer to third man. He misses

SHAHID: "Every team is complaining of lack of star players representing them but Trinidad and Tobago have proved they can compete without those stars."

14.5

Rampaul to Morkel, 1 run, change of pace again, but this one was spotted and with it being full as well, Morkel strides forward and pushes down the ground

Gopi: "I notice CSK have a tendency to become complacent toward the end of a league stage. They talk about complacency and then get back to serious business in the knockout stages."

14.6

Rampaul to Dhoni, 1 run, pulled away, but there is a man at deep square leg, possibly why Rampaul engaged in short pitched bowling to MSD, who is one of the better players of the ball coming around chest high

Noel Kalicharan: "If T&T advance, they will have at least one player on all the teams in the semi-finals. If they don't (heaven forbid), then at least they'll have representation on three out of four."

15.2

Narine to Morkel, no run, spins it away from the left hander, who goes back to push the ball into the covers

15.3

Narine to Morkel, no run, stays back and waits for the ball to turn, it is the off break, and its guided to point

15.4

Narine to Morkel, no run, fuller this time and Morkel tentatively prods forward in a defensive stroke

15.5

Narine to Morkel, no run, a little quicker on the block this time, as the flighted, good length ball on off is patted away into the off side

Narine to Morkel, no run, oh dear, that beat everyone. Narine, after setting Morkel up with a steady supply of offies, turns this one back into him and cuts him in half. The keeper fails to collect it, and the players go up in appeal for lbw since there was no edge. It was a tad bit high, I suspect, though he was well on his back foot

End of over 16 (1 run) Chennai Super Kings 94/5 (RR: 5.87)
JA Morkel    1* (10b)      SP Narine    3-0-8-0
MS Dhoni    18* (21b 1x4)      R Rampaul    3-0-21-1

James: "@SHAHID, T&T don't have star players? Maybe in batting but Narine is the best T20 bowler in the world. Rampaul is also excellent."

16.1

Emrit to Dhoni, FOUR, that's belted. bangs it in to the middle of the pitch, and at his pace, he really shouldn't have. Dhoni teaches him that lesson as he slams this well in front of midwicket

16.2

Emrit to Dhoni, 1 run, goes back to his slower balls and with this one being outside off, Dhoni, from the back foot, steers it to point and rushes for a single

Round the stumps

16.3

Emrit to Morkel, 1 run, finds the block hole, but with it being outside off, Morkel crouches, gets the open face to connect and rushes off for a single

16.4

Emrit to Dhoni, 2 runs, leg cutter from Emrit, cut to straight backward point and Dhoni takes off. The throw comes in, but Dhoni's safe. There's no one backing up and Dhoni steals a second

raj: "Now its Dhoni time....."

16.5

Emrit to Dhoni, OUT, oh no it isn't. Emrit was furious with the point fielder for getting Dhoni back on strike. Reckon he owes him a drink now. This was a length ball, a little slower, but kept at the stumps. Dhoni looked to slam it straight over the top. His timing is shot there as the ball goes straight up in the air and Simmons rushes up from long-on, settles under it and dives forward to hold on, even if it popped out of his hand just for a moment.

MS Dhoni c Simmons b Emrit 25 (36m 25b 2x4 0x6) SR: 100.00

16.6

Emrit to Morkel, no run, tucks him up. No room offered whatsoever as the good length ball homes in on middle. Morkel keeps it out

End of over 17 (8 runs) Chennai Super Kings 102/6 (RR: 6.00)
JA Morkel    2* (12b)      RR Emrit    3-0-20-2
S Badrinath    0* (0b)      SP Narine    3-0-8-0

Bardinath comes in at No. 8

17.1

Narine to Badrinath, no run, and he has to negotiate a full length ball on off, which he does with a forward defensive push to cover

17.2

Narine to Badrinath, no run, keeps it nice and right outside off and Badri's open face can't pierce the gap

17.3

Narine to Badrinath, 1 run, strays on his and Badri uses the turn to get off strike as he works it away to midwicket

17.4

Narine to Morkel, 1 run, oh, that was close. Morkel was looking for the ball to turn away, but there wasn;t that much on offer. He manages to some how squeeze it out to third man

17.5

Narine to Badrinath, 1 run, ample turn there and Badri has to jump back to adjust, but since he was already on his back foot and the ball didn;t skid, he calmly plays it down to third man

17.6

Narine to Morkel, 1 run, flat batted across the line to the man at deep midwicket as Narine pitches it short

Narine finishes with 15 dot balls

End of over 18 (4 runs) Chennai Super Kings 106/6 (RR: 5.88)
JA Morkel    4* (14b)      SP Narine    4-0-12-0
S Badrinath    2* (4b)      RR Emrit    3-0-20-2

18.1

Rampaul to Morkel, no run, fuller length, and Morkel has to come forward and push it back to the bowler

18.2

Rampaul to Morkel, OUT, gone, leg stump knocked back to end Morkel's painful stay at the crease. It was slower, the off cutter, I think. And Morkel's feet were made of lead as he looked to swipe this across the line, the ball ducks underneath and clatters into the stumps

JA Morkel b Rampaul 4 (19m 16b 0x4 0x6) SR: 25.00

R Ashwin comes out

18.3

Rampaul to Ashwin, 1 wide, well, you could give him one wide, considering how dire CSK are. Its a right-hander and he's had to negotiate left-hander's mostly and he strays down leg side with a back of a length ball

18.3

Rampaul to Ashwin, 1 run, chips down the track and nudges the good length ball to long-on to get off strike

18.4

Rampaul to Badrinath, 1 run, oh, he goes for the old mow over cow corner, but the ball was far too full and straight for that. Gets a thick inside edge which squirts out to midwicket

18.5

Rampaul to Ashwin, SIX, And R Ashwin says that's how its done, literally as he gestures with his hand as though he got a wicket. Forefinger out and shaking his wrist back and forth. It was full, on middle and Ashwin opens up his front leg and slams it well over the top of long-on

18.6

Rampaul to Ashwin, 1 run, OUT, Mix up and gone! that was shortish, but Ashwin goes for the same shot. He doesn;t time it this time as long-on comes up to grab the ball and gets the throw in quickly, to find Badrinath short

S Badrinath run out 3 (10m 5b 0x4 0x6) SR: 60.00

End of over 19 (10 runs) Chennai Super Kings 116/8 (RR: 6.10)
R Ashwin    8* (3b 1x6)      R Rampaul    4-0-31-2
     SP Narine    4-0-12-0

19.1

Emrit to Ashwin, 1 run, more trouble for CSK. Emrit hits Ashwin's spinning hand is hit with a full toss that followed him as he made room for himself. He grimaces all the way through the run

Jason Holder is the new man

19.2

Emrit to Holder, OUT, but his stay at the crease is very short. It was length and it merited the straight drive over the top, but Holder can't get enough of it as the ball goes high into the air and settles safely in the hands of Simmons at long-on

JO Holder c Simmons b Emrit 0 (1m 1b 0x4 0x6) SR: 0.00

19.3

Emrit to Ashwin, 1 leg bye, slower ball again, and Ashwin looks to dab sweep it fine, but he doesn't get bat to it. The ball finds its way toward the covers

19.4

Emrit to Sharma, OUT, comedy of errors and it results in a wicket. And that's the end of it all. It was a solid forward defensive from Mohit Sharma the new batsman, Ashwin took off for the single, but seeing the bowler already in line to collect the ball, he stops and tries to go back. In the effort, he collides with the bowler, loses his bat and doesn't see Mohit charging down for the single. Ashwin actually reached the non-strikers end and has to turn around and run back to the other end. He lunges forward, as if a sprinter, but without his bat, he is well short of his ground

R Ashwin run out 9 (8m 5b 0x4 1x6) SR: 180.00

9.25pm Our resident stats man, Shiva Jayaraman says, T&T will get ahead of CSK on NRR if they chase down this target in 17.4 overs or less. That was only the seventh time Chennai have been all out, and that is a bad sign as they've won only one game from that position. The pitch was slow and low as expected and most batsmen struggled with the timing, as evident with played-ons and the leading edges. That said, Ravi Rampaul and Sunil Narine combined to deadly effect. They were T&T's best and they needed to come through. Now its up to the batsman, but they will not have it easy though with Super Kings' slow bowling strength. So do stick around as we return with the chase in a few

vibhash: "Ashwin and run outs are like 90 degree angle in a square - always around the corner!!#ok #sorry #pj"

Afroze Nadaf: "Taking 10 wickets of CSK within 20 overs is a great achievement. Take a Bow T&T!"

thegame: "These ipl teams are nothing without overseas players..Take out the 4 overseas from ipl teams they wont stand a chance against any other team ! To be fair it shouldnt be allowed having 4 players in a tournament like this"

Nishant: "Is this the same pitch were first match played on? (MI vs Perth)" Yes, it is
