Champions League Twenty20 - 2nd semi final

Trinidad & Tobago v Mumbai Indians

Mumbai Indians won by 6 wickets (with 5 balls remaining)

Righto, the teams have walked in to the green turf amid the usual fanfare. Pretty decent crowd here at the Kotla. Mitchell Johnson will start the proceedings. Harbhajan at first slip.

Damo: "Does it take away from this tournament that 4 IPL teams get in and they take all the good players? I know that that's where the money comes from, but where does the cricket come into this tournament? Inevitably 3/4 teams in the semi's are IPL. Don't we already have a tournament to find out who the best IPL team is? It's made me not watch any of this, even though it's on rare free-to-air TV in Australia."

TwistyMaze LittlePassage: "Where does cricket come into this tournament?? Seriously? There have been some GREAT moments in this tournament. Dhoni going 50 in 16 balls! Tambe's story is enough to bring a tear to the eye. And who would ever pass on a chance to watch Sunil Narine in the attack against these IPL teams? No need to complain, just enjoy!!"

nirbhay gupta: "every body says there is 3 or 4 ipl teams are in CL but can they tell me in football UCL also have 4 EPL team where as other countries either have 3 or 2 or some time the champion of the some countries has to play qualifying tournament . ?"

Pawas: "@Damo: you are right. But dont forget that Mumbai Indian were too good in just one game while Otago were bad in just one. It could have easily been 50% of non-ipl teams in the semis.."

Murali Mohan: "The decision to chase here is a double edged sword. If the dew comes into play, then the pitch will be conducive for batting but if there is no dew then the pitch will slow down falling right into the hands of Narine and Badree."

7.30 pm Mumbai Indians have won the toss and they are going to field first. Rohit Sharma, who led the chase here in Delhi against Perth Scorchers, thinks chasing is their strength and on this ground, he prefers it that way. Mitchell Johnson comes in for Glenn Big Show Maxwell. T&T go in unchanged and their captain, Denesh Ramdin, says he doesn't mind batting first.

Dmx: "I hope MI will win today. Then in the Grand finale, the cricketing world can watch Rahul Dravid & Sachin Tendulkar for one last time. What more can a cricket fan ask for? Cricketing world will miss these two great players...."

JasonR retorts from T&T, "big game guys....Mumbai thinks they can chase better than we can defend!! playing into our hands!! 1st wrong move!"

Anekant: "This is going to be a very interesting game, one whose fate will be decided by west-indians." ---- Yeah, there are 13 of them today. Fourteen if you add Ian Bishop.

Colly: "We first defeated Bravo now this is time for Pollard. All the best T & T"

7.20 pm Hello and welcome to our coverage of the penultimate match of the Champions League T20. It's Mumbai Indians v Trinidad & Tobago, Pollard's IPL team v Pollard's regional team, and they are in Delhi where the pitch, well, will be just like any other Delhi pitch - slow, turning, low, difficult for batmen. T&T edged past the powerful Super Kings here the other night and they will be posing a strong challenge to Mumbai Indians tonight with Sunil Narine and Samuel Badree in their ranks. Just two more evenings of T20 cricket.. I am already feeling a bit low.

0.1

Johnson to Simmons, 1 leg bye, starts off with a shortish delivery on the pads, Simmons gets hit on the thigh pad, but they take the single

0.2

Johnson to Lewis, no run, short of length outside off, the batsman stayed on the back foot and wanted to punch it through off, but didn't get the timing

0.3

Johnson to Lewis, FOUR, he gets the edge, but there is no second slip! Lewis didn't play that very well, he went for a forceful punch to a length delivery without moving his feet ever...

0.4

Johnson to Lewis, SIX, they said this is the smallest ground in the tournament and this is why. The batsman slashes his bat at this short and wide delivery and gets a thick edge that goes over the third-man fielder.. well clear of him

0.5

Johnson to Lewis, 1 run, this time he takes a gentle step forward and guides the length delivery firmly through gully for a single

0.6

Johnson to Simmons, no run, short of length, angles across the batsman and beats the bat

Pras G: "The concept of IPL teams being superior is manufactured especially be Aussies as this was not the same perception when the New South Wales Blues or the Sydney Sixers won the previous versions. There were IPL teams back then as well. But this has to do more with the decline of Aus cricket and rise of India and South Africa as the best players currently."

1.1

Harbhajan Singh to Lewis, no run, slow and loopy delivery to the left-hander, it's defended towards point

One slip in place

1.2

Harbhajan Singh to Lewis, 1 run, shorter outside off, the batsman goes back to punch it through off, but doesn't get any timing. It's in the gap and that fetches him a single

1.3

Harbhajan Singh to Simmons, no run, tossed up on off, the batsman pushes it back to the bowler

Aleem: "So discussion about 4 IPL teams is going on. Well I would say that BCCI holds majority of share so its nothing wrong about playing their own 4 teams but problem is not with 4 iPL teams its qualification stage. I mean team like Otago Volts and SRH have to come throug qualification stage while teams like Perth/Brisbane are already in main round. No offence to Aussie fans."

1.4

Harbhajan Singh to Simmons, OUT, caught at deep midwicket! Harbhajan strikes with a tossed up delivery that invited the slog from Simmons and he had the right field for it, with Smith right at the edge of the boundary. Simmons obliged, and unfortunately for him, didn't really get hold of the shot. Smith takes an easy catch on the edge

2.5

Johnson to Lewis, FOUR, more runs, another length delivery gift wrapped in width, the batsman just takes a wee step forward and slashes it over point

2.6

Johnson to Lewis, no run, now he shortens the length a touch and immediately the batsman is beaten as he gets stuck in the crease

Uwaisul Karnain: "Big wicket that of Simmons for MI. T&T rely heavily on their top 3 batsmen and Ramdin to an extent to put up a decent score for their world class bowling unit to defend"

3.4

3.5

Harbhajan Singh to Bravo, no run, slower and outside off, the batsman drives it again, but this time hits it straight to cover

3.6

Harbhajan Singh to Bravo, SIX, too much air by Harbhajan and Lil Bravo makes him pay for that with the cleanest swing of the bat, the ball has gone way way over long-on, somewhere high up in those ugly Kotla stands

kiran jain: "can this MJ do moon walk?"

4.1

Dhawan to Lewis, 1 run, length delivery, pushed to the right of point where Harbhajan dives to make the stop, but can't prevent the single

James: "It's unfair to criticize the Australians when this tournament is staged right at the end of the off-season. For most of the Brisbane and Perth players this was their first hit-out for 6 months. Those that have played recently (Watson, Johnson, Faulkner etc) are playing for IPL teams."

4.2

Dhawan to Bravo, no run, bowls a length delivery that just cuts away from the left-hander, it beats the bats as the batsman plays that from the crease

4.3

Dhawan to Bravo, 1 run, stays in the crease again, but the little width allows him to crack it to deep point

4.4

Dhawan to Lewis, no run, on the pads, and it hits the batsman below the knee-roll as Lewis tried to help it on its way.. He misses out. The bowler appeals, but he realises he is alone as it pitched way outside leg

4.5

Dhawan to Lewis, no run, short of length delivery, the batsman defends it to off from the back foot

4.6

Dhawan to Lewis, FOUR, get the front foot out to a length ball and smash that back at the bowler - that was the shot the batsman just played, Dhawan does well to get his hands out of the way as this just goes over his head

Polly comes into the attack

Sakush KC: "Big Bash teams have 2 major disadvantage. 1) All those big names domestic players are retained by the IPL sides. Imagine CSK without Dhoni/Raina/Ashwin; Mumbai without Rohit Sharma etc. 2) The contracts of Big Bash teams run out before the CLt20. So players who won them the trophy may have been signed by other franchises. Eg. Mike Hussey played the last big bash for Perth but has signed for Sydney Thunder already! Had he not been a part of CSK, still Perth would not have been able to play him although he played for Perth in the Big Bash!"

6.1

Pollard to Bravo, no run, bowls that slow length delivery that goes away from the batsman with the angle, he is beaten as he tries to guide it fine on off

6.2

Pollard to Bravo, 1 run, short and slow outside off, the batsman waits and pulls it along the ground to deep square leg

Round the wicket to Lewis

7.3

Harbhajan Singh to Lewis, no run, that was a good delivery! He gets some extra bounce after flighting the ball, the ball just climbs past the outside edge and DK is not able to collect it

7.4

Harbhajan Singh to Lewis, SIX, Lewis takes T&T to a fifty with a powerful thwack to this flatter delivery! he didn't get hold of it at all, he was looking to play it towards long-on, but that goes high and Pollard at long-off leaps high and makes it look like a chance - he gets a hand to that..

7.5

Harbhajan Singh to Lewis, no run, goes back, but it is bowler quicker at him and Lewis is cramped for room

7.6

Harbhajan Singh to Lewis, SIX, six no.2 in the over! and this is more convincing. It was one of those faster ones from Harbhajan, but it was right in the slot, the batsman carves it over long-off this time with a powerful drive

11.6

Pollard to Ottley, 1 run, slower delivery on the pads, it's flicked towards deep midwicket for a single

16.3

Pollard to Pooran, 1 run, he goes down on his knee early to play the ramp shot, but there is no pace on this delivery and the batsman can only sweep it as far as short fine leg

16.4

Pollard to Ottley, 1 run, slower bouncer outside off, the batsman gets on top of that and pulls it to deep midwicket

16.5

Pollard to Pooran, 1 run, slower delivery on a length outside off, the batsman punches it to wide long-on without much timing

16.6

Pollard to Ottley, FOUR, another slower ball, but it's on the pads and the batsman takes a swing at that, he manages to find the gap to the right of deep backward square leg where Harbhajan dives in vain

Anekant: "MI have not been able to hit the stumps when needed. The only time they hit stumps today was when the batsmen was in and they conceded 4 overthrows."

End of over 17 (8 runs) Trinidad & Tobago 122/4 (RR: 7.17)
KYG Ottley    27* (24b 1x4 1x6)      KA Pollard    3-0-16-1

Coulter-Nile comes back

17.1

Coulter-Nile to Pooran, 1 run, bowls it short of length which the batsman mistimes towards deep square leg

Over the wicket now

17.2

Coulter-Nile to Ottley, 1 run, keeps it full and on the stumps, the batsman can only dig it out as far as midwicket

Back to round the wicket

17.3

Coulter-Nile to Pooran, SIX, oh he gets the hang of this slower stuff! It was on a length just outside off, the batsman gets his front leg out of the way and hits a home run straight over long-on

17.4

Coulter-Nile to Pooran, no run, the bowler changes pace and length, it's 144 kph and full outside off, the batsman is too late to bring the bat down

17.5

Coulter-Nile to Pooran, 1 run, short of length on the body, cramps the batsman for room, but he manages to flat-bat it to long-on

17.6

Coulter-Nile to Ottley, no run, that's a good yorker! On the toes and it was quick too. Ottley brings the bat down just in time

End of over 18 (9 runs) Trinidad & Tobago 131/4 (RR: 7.27)
KYG Ottley    28* (26b 1x4 1x6)      NM Coulter-Nile    3-0-14-0

Two overs to go, can TnT push past 150? Rishi Dhawan will bowl the first of those two

18.1

Dhawan to Pooran, no run, whoa! The batsman wanted to play the paddle sweep, but the bowler pushed it full and wide outside off, the batsman went towards the ball anyway and gets a deflection on it towards the other side. DK does well to go down quickly to his left to stop that one

18.2

Dhawan to Pooran, 1 wide, it's full and wide outside off, the batsman misses, but the umpire calls it a wide

18.2

Dhawan to Pooran, 2 runs, another full delivery, the batsman toe-ends it over the infield straight down the ground for a couple of runs

18.3

Dhawan to Pooran, 2 runs, this is comic! The batsman walks across the stumps to play that paddle sweep, the ball is a slower one and arrives after the batsman is in his position, hits the back of the bat and passes the off stump, it then beats the keeper.

18.4

Dhawan to Pooran, 1 leg bye, full and on the pads, the batsman wanted to flick it hard towards square leg, but misses out as he gets hit on the pad

18.5

Dhawan to Ottley, SIX, he finishes off a good over with a hit-me fuller length delivery on off stump, the batsman now goes for a golf-swing and drives it straight into the sight-screen

Chandra: "strange that Rohit doesn't bowl out Ojha..last match also he had taken 2 wickets but was given only 2 and here 3. ..but bhajji who is expensive gets bowled out.."

18.6

Dhawan to Ottley, FOUR, more bonus runs! this time off an inside edge and the keeper can't do much about this one..

Zain: "This is not nearly a good enough score... really pathetic batting outside Lewis. As a neutral fan, was def hoping for a better game after yesterday's one sided disaster. Hoping for some early luck for T&T but not expecting much."

End of over 19 (16 runs) Trinidad & Tobago 147/4 (RR: 7.73)
KYG Ottley    38* (28b 2x4 2x6)      R Dhawan    3-0-30-0
N Pooran    15* (12b 1x6)      NM Coulter-Nile    3-0-14-0

Coulter-Nile to bowl the last over. Now can TnT push close to 160

19.1

Coulter-Nile to Pooran, 1 wide, the batsman stands outside off forcing the bowler to bowl wider and the plan works as the bowler pushes it way outside off

19.1

Coulter-Nile to Pooran, no run, another full delivery on off, the batsman was preparing for the reverse paddle, but misses that completely

19.2

Coulter-Nile to Pooran, OUT, caught at long-off! This was a slower delivery wide outside off and Pooran wanted to smash it down the ground, but he gets a toe-end to that and it only goes as far as Rayudu at long-off

N Pooran c Rayudu b Coulter-Nile 15 (22m 14b 0x4 1x6) SR: 107.14

19.3

Coulter-Nile to Ottley, 2 runs, he bowls it full and on the stumps, but the batsman manages to drive it firmly back past the bowler for a couple of runs

19.4

Coulter-Nile to Ottley, 1 run, length delivery on off, the batsman punches it over the bowler this time, but the fielder down the ground are straightish owing to the short boundaries

Adrian Meredith: "Zain - T&T is a bowling heavy side. 5 bowlers average under 20. Anything over 140 is good enough for them. They are big favourites at the moment."

19.5

Coulter-Nile to Stewart, 2 runs, a good delivery, this one is a low full toss on the middle stump and it's pushed down the ground to long-off. But the batsmen belatedly decide to come back for a second, the fielder fires the throw to the keeper, but the batsman makes it in time

That could have been Mumbai Indians' first run-out of the tournament

19.6

Coulter-Nile to Stewart, no run, a good delivery to end the innings! It was wide outside off and it was full too, the batsman was charging down the pitch, but completely misses it.

T&T have put up a decent total given the pitch and their bowling attack, but it could have been a little better had other batsmen - apart from Lewis and Ottley - contributed. But Mumbai Indians' slower bowlers and the medium pacers slowed down the innings in the second half, so a lot of credit to them. Back in 10 minutes for the chase.

KARAN BHATIA: "Do remember sunil narine is a part of Trinidad & Tobago so #MI will have to chase down in 16 overs. Match is gonna be uber exciting"

Don: "@Adrian - MI is a very good batting side as well, i don't think 153 is enough a score that MI will have a lot of trouble chasing. In my opinion MI are the favorites."

End of over 20 (6 runs) Trinidad & Tobago 153/5
ND Stewart    2* (2b)      NM Coulter-Nile    4-0-20-1
KYG Ottley    41* (30b 2x4 2x6)      R Dhawan    3-0-30-0
