A Western Australia junior, Craig Simmons represented his home state in a Pura Cup game before taking his aggressive batting talents east to avoid Perth's backlog of well-credentialled top-order players. The move worked in 2005-06, as Simmons was a familiar face in both New South Wales teams, picking up 157 runs at 26.16 in the ING Cup and a top score of 43 in three Pura Cup fixtures. However, he could not break back into the first-class set-up last season and added only two one-day games to his tally. Simmons was a heavily decorated youth player who was part of the World Cup-winning under-19 team in 2002, the Academy, and a national development tour to India.
