Folks,
Engineer DID play against Roy Gilchrist once. when WI toured India under F C M Alexander December 1958 - Nagpur - India Combined Universities vs West Indies
whether he hit Gilchrist for a six is debatable!

Posted by skkh on (September 8, 2011, 6:11 GMT)For all those who followed cricket during Farokh's career will find that most of what he says here is tall talk. True he was a good cricketer but not as good as he shows himself to be here. And he says he would have been a damn good captain !!! That is tall talk indeed. Sorry Farokh you sounded full of ego here.
Posted by sudhirrao on (September 8, 2011, 3:18 GMT)Engineer forgot to mention that for the 1971 tour of England, he was released by Lancashire for the three tests and not for the county matches. India had to take two other keepers Krishnamurthy and Kirmani. He says the gap betwen the West Indies tour and English tour was one year. In reality it was just 2-3 months

Posted by Scgboy on (September 7, 2011, 0:15 GMT)What a gentleman! I am Australian and whilst having head and read about Farokh Engineer, I have never heard him in person.I was actually quite impressed with not only his wit and charm but even more with his humility as well.Classy indeed.
Posted by aloo57 on (September 6, 2011, 18:25 GMT)Great Interview but Farokh got a few speciifics wrong. 1) Roy Gilchrist did not play in the Madras Test of 1967. Roy Gilchrist last played for the West Indies in 1957 much before Farokh played for India 2) Clive Lloyd was not the captain of West Indies against India in 1971. Garry Sobers was the captain. Farokh's claim that he was named captain of the India team to tour West Indies in 1971 (prior to Aljit Wadekar) needs to be verified. Seems dubious-like his claim of catching Viv Richards when he was on 12 in the Delhi Test of 1974! 3) He only hit one six in his 75 in the Delhi test of 1974. He claims in this interview that he hit Andy Roberts for two consecutive sixes...
