'India needed someone to stand up, and Harbhajan was the man'

Rahul Dravid on the ten most memorable performances he has witnessed in India-Australia matches during his career. This time, it's Harbhajan Singh's match-winning effort in the 2001 Kolkata Test and Matthew Hayden's counter-attacking double-ton in Chennai (00:00)

Sourav , Rahul and Sachin were always instrumental in developing Harbhajan's career in his early stages. He was given the opportunity alongside Anil bhai when there were spinners like sunil joshi, raju, to name a few. I always believe that harbhajan is a warrior on field. He sets up nicely to grab his wickets, off late he has been performing below his standards, which happens to anyone in their career. I feel he has to get the support of his captain DHONI ,as now harbhajan has been considered as third or fourth choice spinner exception of this series alone. Dhoni's body language towards bhajji has not been encouraging. Only sachin walks up to bhajji asking him to change the line or ends when he is taken apart. Even though Ashwin is the pick of the bowlers in this series who is supported well by jadeja and Ojha, I would like to suggest that FORM IS TEMPORARY , CLASS IS ALWAYS PERMANENT. That's BHAJJI for u...he s gonna rock sooner....JAI HIND.....

due resects to Dravid's comments on Harbhajan, he should not forget the present form of Harbhajan. There are certainly better off spinners in India compared to the present form of Harbhajan and one or two can be tried to support the existing spinners Aswin and Jadeja. This is one area where selectors should lookinto and take steps better for the team.. Only in India such type of keeping a player or players irrespective of form and resulting in poor performance leading to defeats. Giving a long rope system should be stopped. I only pray that in future, selection should be done only based on merits.
