Herbert Gamlin played for Somerset three times a professional and, as his statistics show, made almost no impression, taking two wickets and scoring 7 runs in six innings, four of which were ducks. His only claim to fame was that he was the bowler who finally dismissed Archie MacLaren for 424 at Taunton, at the time the highest score by an Englishman in first-class cricket.
