James Williams was Glamorgan`s reserve opening batsman. The for- mer Clifton College schoolboy took a degree at at Durham Univer- sity, but despite being a heavy scorer in 2nd XI and club crick- et, Williams was released from the staff at the end of 1996, af- ter just one first-class appearance for Glamorgan against Aus- tralia in 1993 at his home town of Neath.
