Born and brought up in Dubai, Obaid Hameed is well known for his fielding and slow left-arm spin. He was first selected for UAE Under-15s and then went on to play the U-17s and U-19s in the same calendar year. His performance got him picked for the UAE national squad in the ICC intercontinental cup in 2008. He made his debut for the national side against Yorkshire in the Pro Arch trophy while he had some UK clubs in chase to get him as an overseas player. Obaid is a promising youngster and will be an asset for UAE cricket. In 2010 he was called in to complete the England Lions 15 man performance squad to play Pakistan A in Dubai.
