Other Coach
Matthew Betsey is a classy young all-rounder whose inclusion in the New South Wales squad for 2000-01 underlines his abundant potential. A right arm medium pacer, he is accurate and bowls with controlled away swing. He also possesses a useful slower ball. With the bat, he is confident and aggressive and his liking for playing off the front foot results in the production of some fine drives through the covers as well as the arc between mid on and mid off. He has been a star of Sydney grade cricket for a number of years now, having begun his career at that level at the age of seventeen and buttressed it with impressive stints with New South Wales Colts and Under-19 teams. Possibly the highest point of Betsey's career to this stage came at the end of the 1999-2000 season, when a string of distinguished performances with Bankstown-Canterbury resulted in his naming as The Sydney Morning Herald's 'Player of the Finals' series. Off the field of play itself, Betsey holds an administrative job with Cricket New South Wales in Sydney. (John Polack, September 2000)
