Trevor Townshend was an aggressive batsman from Matabeleland who was also a talented all-round sportsman, playing hockey and golf to a good standard. He was the younger brother of Derrick Townshend, who also represented Rhodesia at cricket. He failed to realise his true potential mainly due to lack of discipline and also did not fully appreciate his own ability. He was a very aggressive middle-order batsman and bowled occasional off-breaks. During the seventies he also played for Leicestershire Seconds and was a professional for Oldham.
