- It was West Indies' 420th and South Africa's 225th match.
- It was the 21st match between these two sides. The record now reads: South Africa 14, West Indies 7.
- Umpires Basil Morgan and Eddie Nicholls were officiating in their 15th and 24th match respectively.
- Gary Kirsten (50) on 12 became the highest run-scorer for South Africa in ODIs. He has now aggregated 5604 runs from 151 outings at the end of this match. This puts him ahead of former skipper Hansie Cronje who had a career aggregate of 5565 runs from 188 matches.
- With 4806 runs from 73 Test matches on his name, 252 more than Daryll Cullinan - the second highest run scorer for South Africa in longer version of the game, Kirsten now holds the dual record of topping for his country in both forms of cricket - Tests and ODIs. Only England's Graham Gooch (8900 runs in 118 Tests and 4290 runs in 125 ODIs), New Zealand's Martin Crowe (5444 runs in 77 Tests and 4704 runs in 143 ODIs), Sri Lanka's Aravinda de Silva (5952 runs in 89 Tests and 8432 runs in 275 ODIs) and Zimbabwe's Andy Flower (3721 runs in 50 Tests and 5267 runs in 172 ODIs) are the other batsmen to achieve this double distinction.
- The first wicket partnership of 88 runs between Kirsten and Herschelle Gibbs was South Africa's best for this wicket against West Indies in all matches beating the 54 run-partnership between Mike Rindel and Daryll Cullinan at Dhaka on 01-11-1998.
- The pair of Gary Kirsten and Herschelle Gibbs has now become the most successful opening pair for South Africa.They have together put on 1512 runs for the first wicket which takes them past the aggregate of 1510 runs by Kirsten himself and Andrew Hudson. - Jacques Kallis scored his seventh ODI hundred in his 123rd match-his first against West Indies. His previous highest against West Indies was 78* in the second match of this series.
- South Africa's total (287-4) was the third highest by any side against West Indies in West Indies after England's 293 for five at Bridgetown on 29-03-1998 and Australia's 288 for four at this same ground on 14-04-1999
- West Indies' total (155) was its lowest against South Africa in West Indies. The previous lowest was 220 for eight in the second match of this series at St.John's.
- Pollock's three wickets in this match has now taken his tally of wickets to 100 in `away' matches. He was making his 74th match on foreign soil. Pollock became only the second South African after Allan Donald (151 wickets from 86 matches) and 27th bowler in the world to do so.
- West Indies' defeat by 132 runs was the third heaviest for it in all matches. The heaviest defeat imposed on West Indies was by 138 runs by the hands of Pakistan at Sharjah on 19-10-1999. + batted one man short - It was the eighth time that West Indies lost a match by 100 or more runs.
- West Indies was losing two successive matches in a series at home for the first time since March 1993. Pakistan had then beaten the hosts at Port-of-Spain on 27-03-1993 by seven wickets and then at Arnos Vale on 30-03-1993 by 38 runs.
- Jacques Kallis was winning his 17th Man of the match award. He is now only one short of equalling the record of maximum awards in a career for South Africa which is currently shared by Hansie Cronje and Lance Klusener.
