Agarwal converted his maiden ton into a double and put on the third-highest opening partnership for India in Tests with Rohit

4- Number of India batsmen who converted their maiden Test century into a 200-plus score, including Mayank Agarwal, who scored 215 in Visakhapatnam. Dilip Sardesai (200*), Vinod Kambli (224) and Karun Nair (303*) are the other three to have done so. This was Agarwal's ninth first-class century and third double-ton, including a triple-ton. He has converted six of his nine first-class hundreds into 150-plus scores.

The two bigger stands were: 413 between Vinoo Mankad and Pankaj Roy against New Zealand in Chennai in 1956 and 410 between Virender Sehwag and Rahul Dravid versus Pakistan in Lahore in 2006.

The previous best was 268 between Sehwag and Dravid for the second wicket in Chennai in 2008. The previous biggest opening stand for India against South Africa was 218 between Sehwag and Gautam Gambhir in Kanpur in 2004.
1- Bigger partnerships by batsmen opening together for the first time in Tests than what Rohit and Agarwal put on. The highest is 410 by Sehwag and Dravid in Lahore in 2006. The third on the list is also an Indian pair: 289 by M Vijay and Shikhar Dhawan versus Australia in Mohali in 2013, on Dhawan's debut.
391- Runs accumulated by India openers - 215 by Agarwal and 176 by Rohit - is the third highest in a Test innings. The highest is 404 by Vinoo Mankad (231) and Pankaj Roy (173) against New Zealand in 1956. The pair's aggregate is the second-highest for any opening pair against South Africa. The highest against South Africa is also by an Indian pair: 392 by Virender Sehwag (319) and Wasim Jaffer (73) in Chennai in 2008.
149- Total runs earlier scored by Rohit in 12 Test innings against South Africa, with a best of 47. He scored more than that aggregate in the single innings in this Test, with his 176. This is his second-highest score in Tests, just one short of his 177 on Test debut against West Indies in 2013.
2013- The last time an opening partnership lasted for 80 or more overs before Rohit and Agarwal stood for 82 overs in this Test. The last pair to do so was Alastair Cook and Nick Compton against New Zealand in Dunedin in 2013. Before them, Neil McKenzie and Graeme Smith had done it twice in 2008, against England and Bangladesh.
12- Number of sixes hit by India openers - six each for Rohit and Agarwal - is the most by openers for any team in a Test innings (where boundaries recorded). Overall, there has been only one Test innings when India batsmen have hit more sixes - 15 against Sri Lanka at Brabourne in 2009.
