Irish fast medium bowler Adrian McCoubrey has signed a one-year contract with the county for 2003.
McCoubrey, 22, was born in Ballymena, Northern Ireland and made his debut for the full Irish side in 1999.
Chief executive, David East, commented:
"We are delighted that Adrian is joining us. We are sure that he will make a great contribution to the club next year".
"I am thrilled that Essex have given me this opportunity to impress, and I hope that this is the start of a long career as a professional cricketer".
