Doctor Robin Smith

Robin was awarded an honorary degree, Doctor of Letters (honoris causa), at a Graduation Ceremony at the University of Portsmouth, Portsmouth Guildhall, 14 July 2003.
One of the University's Public Orators Fergus Carr (Faculty of Humanities) a keen local cricketer (but a Middlesex fan!), gave the speech which "presented the candidate". He reminded the audience of Robin's many great achievements and drew particular attention to his determination, hard work and the support of his family.
At the end of the ceremony, Robin replied on behalf of all the graduands. He confessed to being more nervous than when he had faced the top West Indian bowlers but gave a delightful speech including a very funny story about his dad (ask him). His parents, wife Kathy and children attended.
