Inaugural Northern Territory women's cricket leadership program achieves full enrolment

An inaugural cricket education and leadership course for Northern Territory women beginning in Darwin next week (27 June) has reached full enrolment

An inaugural cricket education and leadership course for Northern Territory women beginning in Darwin next week (27 June) has reached full enrolment.
It is the first leadership course of its kind offered to females by the Australian Cricket Board (ACB) and will cover skills in cricket coaching, umpiring, sports administration and event management.
Places in the three-day course (27-29 June), to be presented by the Education and Training arm of the ACB's Game Development department, quickly reached full quota.
The women's leadership program, funded by the ACB and the Australian Sports Commission, will feature guest speakers, site visits, education sessions, practical components and a Super 8s cricket match - to be organised and officiated by the course participants.
ACB General Manager, Game Development, Ross Turner, said the program aimed to open up new skills and pathways for females to expand their involvement in cricket.
"The ACB has in place several programs and opportunities for females at all levels to increase their participation in cricket from a playing perspective," said Mr Turner.
"This leadership course shows that there are so many different ways to be involved in the game outside playing, by providing course participants with new skills, pathways and directions in cricket.
"Many of the aspects included in the program, such as event management and sports administration, are not covered by standard cricket courses which means the opportunity to learn about these vital areas of the game can be overlooked.
"It is encouraging to see the course numbers reach full quota and highlights the strong interest and enthusiasm for the game from females across the Northern Territory.
"With such a high level of interest, we hope to be able to run more leadership programs for women throughout Australia," said Mr Turner.
Invitations to attend the course were issued to cricket contacts and Indigenous sports organisations in the Northern Territory.
Each participant will receive a program t-shirt, cricket ball and an education pack including a coach education CD-Rom.
The agenda for the women's cricket leadership program is:
