Mike Procter, the match referee for the Sri Lanka-India game, has played down the confusion over the team list Sourav Ganguly presented to Marvan Atapattu at the toss, attributing it to a genuine mistake, according to the Times of India.

Both captains were seen discussing at length the list of Indian players for the match, delaying the start by seven minutes. "It was a genuine mistake on the part of Ganguly. He inadvertantly gave the wrong list," said Procter. "He realised the mistake and gave Atapattu the correct list. The Lankan captain graciously accepted it and there were no further problems."

Romesh Fernando, Sri Lanka Cricket's scorer, expanded on the issue. "The Indians had first ticked one name, indicating the player was going to play, and then also struck it off ... that's how the confusion happened."
