Wisden
Second One-Day International

New Zealand v India 1998-99

At Napier, January 12 (day/night). India won by two wickets. Toss: India.

A close finish, off the penultimate ball, enlivened an otherwise undistinguished match. New Zealand, led by Nash because of Fleming's injury, were heading for a large total thanks to a partnership of 76 in only 14 overs by Horne and McMillan. But their innings was then wrecked by five run-outs - equalling the previous record for a one-day international. Though New Zealand made up for these lapses with excellent bowling and tight fielding, 213 was not a defensible total. India batted unevenly, but still managed to get their noses in front.

Man of the Match: M. J. Horne.
