Winston Benjamin, the former West Indian fast bowler, has been dismissed as the coach of the Leewards team in the wake of a fallout with the Antigua & Barbuda Cricket Association (ABCA). Benjamin, 40, was issued a letter this week requesting that the agreement between him and the ABCA be terminated.
It has been alleged that both parties had a disagreement on issues regarding the selection of the President's XI team that played against Pakistan in a one-day warm-up match last month.
Benjamin, who played 21 Tests and 85 one-day internationals for the West Indies, was upset that he was not consulted on the team's selection and made his feelings known to the ABCA, who is looking at options to replace him.
Rolston Otto, the Leeward Islands coach , Guy Yearwood, the former Combined Islands batsman, and Anthony Merrick, an ex-West Indies B team bowler were being considered to be possible replacements for Benjamin.
The new coach will prepare Antigua and Barbuda for the defence of the three-day Leewards tournament, which begins on July 21.
