Lloyd nominated for WICB vice-presidency

Clive Lloyd, the former West Indian captain, has been nominated for the vice-presidency of the West Indian Cricket Board. Ken Gordon will be the next president of the board, while Lloyd faces the opposition of Val Banks for the post of second-in-command.

Lloyd, who led the West Indies through one of the most glorious phases in their cricketing history, has most recently been doing the rounds in international cricket as an ICC match referee.

Gordon, a former minister from Trinidad and Tobago, was the only nominee for the presidency. He is well known around the Caribbean for his campaigns supporting the rights and freedoms of the press, and will be the first president from T & T since Jeffrey Stollmeyer, who held the post in the 1970s.

Banks is currently the vice-president of the board and is hoping for re-election. A banker from Anguilla, Banks is a strong chance to retain his spot, and has already served under Wes Hall and Teddy Griffiths.

Lloyd lost a chance for running for president due to a mix-up where his nomination for the vice-presidency ensured that he could not also stand for the prize post, reports CaribbeanCricket.com. It adds that Guyana and Barbados will be behind Lloyd, while Jamaica, T & T and Leewards have thrown their weight behind Banks.

The final election will take place in St. Maarten on August 7, where the board will also discuss matters pertaining to financial statements from the last calendar year.
