Dennis Amiss, chairman of the ECB's international management committee, has said that Duncan Fletcher's position as a tour selector could be reviewed before England leave Australia. The long-term future of Fletcher is set to be discussed after the World Cup but his part in picking the team during the Ashes trip has come under scrutiny.

Earlier in the tour reports in The Times said that Fletcher had wanted to resign from his role as selector, citing difficulties in combining the role with his coaching position, but the request was turned down. However, Amiss now says he and his colleagues are prepared to listen again to Fletcher although confirmed his overall role is not yet up for discussion.

"This does not mean to say we cannot look at our structure in the meantime," Amiss told BBC Radio 5 Live. "Duncan Fletcher has gone on record to say he would rather not be a selector, so that is something we can consider. Selection wasn't always easy on this tour and [it's] something that Duncan would rather not be involved in in the future so we need to look at that in the meantime."

A number of selection issues have dogged the Ashes tour including the early preference of Ashley Giles over Monty Panesar plus the choices of James Anderson and Geraint Jones. The team England fielded at Melbourne is generally regarded as the one that should have started the series.
