Manjrekar chosen for New Zealand tournament
India's selectors Friday included prolific middle-order batsman Sanjay Manjrekar in the 14-man squad for a limited-overs tourna- ment in New Zealand next month.
The 30-year-old Manjrekar, a Test regular, was not part of the Indian one-day team which won three limited-overs tournaments earlier this season.
The team for the four-nation tournament, from February 15 to 26 to celebrate the centenary of New Zealand cricket, will have Sachin Tendulkar opening with Ajay Jadeja. The middle-order in- cludes skipper Mohammed Azharuddin, Vinod Kambli, Navjot Sidhu and Manjrekar.
There are three spinners -- off-spinner Ashish Kapoor, leg spinner Anil Kumble and left-armer Venkatapathy Raju -- to com- plement a four-man seam attack spearheaded by Javagal Srinath.
India, who won the Singer Cup in Sri Lanka, against West Indies and New Zealand and a separate one-day series against the West Indies earlier this season, are looking for their fourth one-day triumph in a row.
Australia, South Africa and hosts New Zealand are the other teams taking part.
India squad: Mohammed Azharuddin (capt), Sachin Tendulkar (vice captain), Ajay Jadeja, Navjot Sidhu, Vinod Kambli, sanjay Manjrekar, Nayan Mongia (wicket-keeper), Manoj Prabhakar, Javagal Srinath, Venkatesh Prasad, Prashant Vaidya, Anil Kumble, Ashish Kapoor, Venkatapathy Raju.
