Jimmy Cook: RHB b. 31/7/53 English cricket was introduced to Cook with a bang as he scored over 2000 runs in each of his first three seasons with Somerset. By then he was, however, already starting to show the signs of weakness against true pace which inevitably haunt an aging batsman. He is still technically the most accomplished batsman in South Africa, but has moved down the batting order and is now primarily employed in an attempt to rem- edy the severe South African weakness against spin. In his prime Cook was a superb cover fielder, but he has become something of a liability in the field.
