Callum Ferguson was the first trade of 2014-15 season of the Big Bash League as he moved to Melbourne Renegades. The middle-order batsman had been with Adelaide Strikers for three years since the tournament's inception in 2011.

Ferguson enjoyed a fruitful Sheffield Shield season, averaging 56.50 from seven matches and helped South Australia to the final. His T20 numbers are less impressive - 262 runs in 16 innings for Strikers to go with an international career that is three matches old. However, Renegades coach Simon Helmot believed Ferguson fit their team's needs well.

"What we're doing at the moment is recruiting to form a solid top order that will carry us through the next two, three years. This is just the first step," he said. Renegades finished top of the table in 2012-13, but their performance slumped this past season with three wins in eight matches.

Former Australia pacer Brett Lee has signed a one-year deal to continue with Sydney Sixers. Lee, 37, was excited to lead a pace attack that includes Mitchell Starc and Josh Hazlewood but was cautious about his future. "As with every year, I'll see how I feel at the end of the season but right now I am just excited to remain in magenta for another year and see if we can go one further next season," he said.

General Manager Dominic Remond was also pleased to renew the association. "Brett had a great season in BBL03, was our second leading wicket taker and bowled at the same pace he did as a 20-year old," Redmond said. "His ability to close out an innings and hold his nerve in pressure situations shows he has lost none of the competitive spirit that has held him well over his career."
