'I may never play for India again' - Yuvraj

It has been more than six months since Yuvraj Singh turned out for India and he accepts that he might have played his last match for the national team. Yuvraj has been in and out of the side since his recovery from cancer in 2012, but he remains hopeful of making a comeback and playing in the World Cup.

"It's always disappointing when you don't make it to the side," he told Wisden India. "But, that said, the last two years have been patchy, up and down. So it's not my call whether I should be picked. Hopefully things will change, and I will be picked again, otherwise life will be very depressing."

Yuvraj was Man of the Series at the 2011 World Cup, and with India's title defence to begin in little over three months, he knew time was running out. "What is the best opportunity that I have? Duleep Trophy, the Ranji one-dayers and whatever other games I can get. As I said, if I can make it to the squad, it will be a great story. It will be awesome to come back and play for India in a World Cup again." Yuvraj is not part of the squad for the Sri Lanka series starting this Sunday, and will push his case in the Ranji one-dayers which begin on November 7.

He last played an ODI during India's unsuccessful tour of South Africa late last year, and India have tasted success in recent one-day series with younger contenders in the middle order. "Of course, there is a possibility that I may never play for India again. I have considered that. But there is also the possibility that I might play for India again, and as long as I believe that I can come back and I have it in me, I'm going to keep pushing myself."

He also said that the possibility of an India call-up wouldn't determine how long he plays the game. "Eventually the goal is to make a comeback to the Indian team, but it's equally important not to lose sight of the fact that I play the game because I enjoy doing so. As long as I'm enjoying myself, I will keep going, whether I'm playing for India, for Punjab or in the Indian Premier League. The goal is to enjoy my game."
